Is scotch a beer?

Tonight I had two very nice local brews. One was the weekly cask at Beer Revolution here in Calgary (an unfiltered, whiskey barrel finished, dark ale). I think it was called Drunken Shark. The other was made by Brewsters next door, and was called the Mad Hope DIPA. I preferred the DIPA. The Drunken Shark was honestly a little bland (compared to what I was expecting).

That's deep. Is brandy a wine?

Since scotch is made from malted barley and malted barley is also used in some beers ... you might have a good point.
