Secondly, people really need to clarify what their issues are here. Xbox Live have three types of subscription: (1) £40 for the year w/out subscription; (2) £15 for three months w/ subscription or; (3) £5/month w/ subscription. Nowhere in the checkout or options does it state the latter two options are subscriptions. It's a common business strategy unfortunately, but I think Conquer Club will see some drastic changes to ensure its survival. You can opt out, get over it.

The only issue really is that gifting a premium costs more. That I can understand the rage for.

with all respect i really don't give a shit what xbox, graybox, zbox, or any other sites do, i care about this site and what this site is doing.

on another hand if teegee cant handle the heat he should get the f*ck out of the kitchen!! it doesn't matter if he is volunteering or getting payed. he is making his own bed by defending the practices of this site and its owner, if he doesn't want the shit as so you say he should not fanatically defend the action of another person. by defending the actions of another person he is subject to as you say shit.

i agree... we seem to be back in an era of jr. mints and TeeGee is holding shit down on his end in a very bad ass way... i have actually enjoyed watching him become the moderator he is now, he always showed the potential and was always very open to listening to every side of an issue... he gets the rules... and right now, he gets the frustration going on with the site... lay off of TeeGee, it is on BW to fix the issue. we are lucky that Mr. T even took it upon himself to take this to BW's table... ahhhh, i think i have stumbled onto something... Mr. T... "I PITY THE FOOL!!" the black jesus has spoken...-Jésus noir

Don't be so narrow minded. I was using Xbox/Microsoft as an example of how companies operate. Adobe now only sell their products through subscriptions, you can't buy the latest Photoshop package unless you pay monthly for it. Following a trend of successful business plans is usually not a bad model to practice. I do also believe honesty is a prime factor for customers however, and the subscription should be made obvious before purchases are made.

TeeGee is doing his job. If you worked for a company that sold a crap product and a customer told you it was crap, you wouldn't agree or you'd probably be sacked. Whilst it's a different scenario, TeeGee has done a lot of positive things for this community, totally opposite to what we have experienced previously; ask Owen.

I have not seen TeeGee defend bigWham's decision once, he's just calling out on weaknesses in your attack. The fact nobody has complained for four months is a valid point, but it can also be easily countered. He's between a rock and a hard place, but he still deserves respect.

I agree with you, he's a volunteer and that's more than any of us do for the site.

It certainly makes me anxious when TeeGee or Dukasaur take the side of the site blindly. Because they're both good guys and they are trapped in that position. We rarely thank them for their volunteer work yet we crucify them for every mistake.

I don't care when this happens to BGtheBrain though, I wish he was more open so that I could crush him here.

Agreed on all counts.

Subscription packages are becoming the norm in online business, rather than the exception. It may seem sleazy, but online gaming is a dog-eat-dog world and if you're not pulling out every available gimmick to make money you'll soon vanish. People need to pull their head out of their ass and realize how close the site has come to vanishing, more than once. Lackattack ditched it once it stopped making money. El Jefe picked it up and lost his shirt trying to turn it around. Now bigWham has picked it up, and he's doing everything possible to turn it around, but unlike El Jefe he isn't willing to lose his shirt in the process. Of course he's going to tinker with obvious gimmicks like subscriptions and micro-transactions. $35 a year for unlimited games is pretty good value, and giving you a $5 discount if you sign up for an ongoing subscription is not exactly a revolutionary step.

TeeGee is probably the most level-headed and balanced Global mod we've ever had. He treats everyone with respect, so one would hope that would be reciprocated, although of course it's not a perfect world and one doesn't always get what one deserves.

WPBRJ wrote:i am not sure were this $35.00 is coming from but if i have to buy 3500 credits to buy a membership for myself or to gift it costs $39.00 not 35

That's true if you buy one pack of 2500 creds and 2 packs of 500 creds, the most obvious path. But you have plenty of other options.

One the one hand, you can buy larger amounts, like 5200 creds for $50 or 11000 creds for $100. If you did the latter, for $100 you could buy premium for yourself and two friends and still have enough left over for your next Conquer Cup entry. At that rate, you'd be paying about $32 for each of the three prems, plus $4 for the CCup entry, so you would be getting all four for below the nominal price.

And yeah, maybe you don't want to spend that much, but it's perfectly normal for companies to offer various kinds of combo deals and special prices to try to get you to spend more. If you don't want to, fine, but don't act as if you're being injured in some way. You can buy some small packs and pay relatively more for each, or you can buy some larger packs and pay relatively less. Pretty much the same story as for any other product or service on the planet.

If you don't want to buy any, you still have countless ways to get credits. As a rough estimate, tournaments either currently in progress or recently completed have paid and/or will pay about a quarter of a million credits in prizes. The Championships series alone will pay almost 160,000 credits. You can get creds from all kinds of contests, you can get creds from volunteering, you can get creds from map-making, you can get creds from posting CC links on your Facebook page, you can get creds from the Referral program, you can get creds from those stupid Peanuts surveys. You can pay nothing at all and gather enough credits for an annual premium just by taking advantage of offers that are out there.

Thanks, nietzche. Although, in to be honest, I don't really take the side of the site blindly. I'm totally aware that some of the decisions that have been taken aren't the best. I've had my share of disagreements with BW. I think you'd be surprised to see how many times I've sent him an angry note for one reason or another. I continue to support him because, on balance, I think he's doing a lot more right than wrong.

Life has taught me that nobody is ever going to do things exactly as I would like to see them done, but as long as someone is making things better instead of worse I can accept their imperfections along with their strengths. I'm not exactly happy with the furtive way that these changes were snuck in without prior notice, but I agree with the general thrust of what BW is trying to do here -- to make more money for the site, and at the same time to broaden the range of options so that there's "different strokes for different folks" in terms of how you buy your membership.

Unfortunately global mods no longer exist, but TeeGee is still basically covering the role any way.

Not sure myself, but basically the community team took them over so now more people cover the job. Something like that.

Global mods screwed a lot of people over, imo. Some were really aloof or otherwise unapproachable and/or abrasive; and they'd drop their hammers on their unsuspecting prey. 'Give some people a little bit of power.' I don't know if that has anything to do with the rationale though.

In the past, yes, but with TeeGee in charge it worked well.

is there a way to know if you are signed up for this? i'm not sure when exactly it was that i re upped. i just want to make sure i didn't sign up for the recurring membership without knowing.

i checked under control panel and settings. which i think are the only relevant places for it to be. i didn't see anything that would tell me.

anyone know?

what is the terms of the subscription ?
why is there no information regarding what you are signing up for ?
are you trying to trap members into a recurring membership ?

You're engaging in the sunk cost fallacy. The money has already been paid, whether you wanted to or not. If you don't want to play CC, you shouldn't continue to play just because the error was made in the past. If you do, you're compounding the original error with another one (spending time doing something you aren't enjoying). Plus, Conquer Club benefits when you play, because it means there's more active games and you're not contributing to the great decline.
