It's also ridiculous that gifting membership costs more.

I agree.

More than what? The discounted price?
The new price for "regular" premium and gifts is $35. (Yes I'm aware that you have to buy $39 worth of credits).

If you want a discount, he is offering basically 15% off if you subscribe. (23% off if you want to factor in the extra credits )
So gifts cost the same, not more. But you can get a discounted rare through subscription if you're interested so the price increase doesn't affect you as much.

If you don't want a subscription, that's fine. There's a 12 month non reoccurring option for you - but not in a discounted price.

He's also changed it after listening to member feedback to make sure it's very clearly a subscription offer and not 12 months.

This logic is kind of backward. There is no reason to buy a 12 month subscription via credits when you can do the same for less money on a credit card, and then just immediately cancel the subscription after you join. So no, the price for "regular" premium is $30. The only reason you would pay for premium with credits is if you won them in a tournament or if they were gifted to you. Those aren't "regular" occurrences, they are irregular occurrences. If we're going to be at all honest with our language instead of using gimmicky marketing phrases, then we can agree that $30 is the normal premium price and you are being charged a 15% fee if you want to use credits instead.

There are options for credit card (reoccuring) or credits (one time). If you want single time transaction, your offers are thru credits. If you want to go ahead and subscribe and then cancel then that's up to you, it doesn't change the fact that one time premium or one time gifts are the same cost, and subscription is a discount (even if you don't use it that way).

So no, the logic isn't backward.

Yes, subscription is a "discount" if by "discount" you mean "making a sane financial decision." Calling it a "discount" makes it sound like CC is being generous in offering this way to pay when the normal price is $35. Except when the vast majority of people are using the "discount" method, it stops being a discount and starts just being the normal price. Seriously, take off your CC staff hat for a second and ask yourself if it really makes sense that we get a "discount" by subscribing the way that basically every other subscription service works.

i've been premium for 8 years. i should be able to pay for CC at the lowest possible cost (subscription) without having to sign up for it... loyalty should be rewarded. BW is alienating the core base of old timers that have stayed around through good and bad...-Jésus noir

Agree with mets(stop the earth I want to get off, something is wrong) that the membership fee has been undervalued in the past. As a person that has frittered away large portions of my life on here, would have been happy to pay more. In particular if the following were addressed.

A greater difference between freemium and premium
Options to roll back/use an earlier version
A sense of validation/acknowledge that my contribution was appreciated.

I don't see any chance of me stooping to use fraud, ie signing up for something then cancelling. To get what I should be offered as a repeat customer. Why not have an option. Are you a returning customer? Yes - membership available at subscription price No - Please see the options we have available.

In practice isn't this what he's doing, rewarding loyalty? Those people who year in and year out purchase premium are the ones receiving the discount. Those who are "unsure" and only want to commit to one year are the ones paying full price. So through subscription, you would be receiving the lowest price point offered, the only thing he's asking is you to sign up for a subscription to something you already claim to buy year after year. (I only use the word claim cuz I have no access to that info). But as a reoccurring / returning customer, he IS rewarding those who sign up / plan to return.

um... no... he is hoping you forget that you have a subscription and just keep giving money to him until you forget about it... i should be rewarded for 8 years of loyalty without a bullshit subscription. talk yourself until you are blue in the face. with how things are now, there is absolutely no reason for me to ever give CC money again... if this was BW's plan, he has won!-Jésus noir

We The Blue and Silver Rebellion don't care about prices..It was the way Conquer Club tried to slip something past us..Where if The High Command had just been Honest with us,we would not have cared about prices..Now how does The High Command expect us to trust CC ever again with our money..I don't use credit cards..So I borrowed my friend's and gifted myself a membership. These past 6 years. So tell me again what is the sense in making gifts more then regular premium.10,30,50..the price should be the same for both..8 years,5 years or five minutes.Who cares about loyalty. You tried to trick us,you got caught, and can never be trusted again..Not to mention all the other stuff that goes on..Why did The High Command give us useless dice stats, but take away the upgrade slot on the Personal Menu..Was it a plan to sneak the subscription by us all along...ConfederateSS..out!!!!.p.s..Mets you want a perfect man to save CC..There is one..If you are out there Bill Gates..you are one of us,one of us..After all if it wasn't for you none of us would be here..W.Clay Ford has a dying hobby..The Detroit Lions..You could have Conquer Club!!!p.s.s..I am crossing my fingers, you are here already under a Kool username..p.s.s.s..I am happy just playing a handful of games...In the words of MR.CUB.Ernie Banks.."Lets play two"..I am with you MR.Cub..Lets play two.Who needs Red and Gold next to our name, that's seems all it is good for now a days!!!!!

I mean, that justification is kind of bullshit, it's just a marketing tactic. But whatever. The point is, every other site in existence employs the "bait and switch" tactic of automatically signing you up for a recurring subscription that you can later cancel if you like. But apparently only CC doing this is evil.

This whole statement is bullshit.

Agreeing with each other in boldface and bright colours doesn't make it any more true.

Bottom line, there was a price increase (no shit, you know any business where the prices don't increase from time to time?). If you want to subscribe, you can get a discount. If you don't, that's fine, but don't act like it's a crisis.

and this is why the great decline continues... you guys just don't get it... and guess what? you don't get my money any more... i think that speaks volumes...-Jésus noir

p.s.-usually a price increase is not done in such an underhanded manner as this was done... and usually with a price increase, you get SOMETHING... hmmm... pay for tournaments.. shitty customer service... blah, blah, blah... oh wait!! we get the spam newsletter!!! sigh, another negative in my view...

Subscription (for self): $30 a year
One-time purchase (for self or friend): 3500 credits ($40 -- 250 extra credits to spare)

It is not cheaper to buy it for yourself, it is cheaper to buy a subscription- should you find yourself wanting to buy a friend a subscription, I'm sure one of the admins would be happy to set that up for you.

A standard business tactic is to make it cheaper to subscribe, and advertise the subscription price. Is this tactic necessarily fair? Maybe not all the time, but it was in this case. Is it a common tactic? Yes. Is it a valid tactic? Yes.

Honestly, $50 would be a reasonable price. That's less than two months of my gym membership, and I'm sure the equipment for CC costs a heck of a lot more than it does at the gym.

There's a local radio morning show here that charges $50 a year for a membership just for "extra" content. Photos, videos, interviews, downloadable version of regular shows, etc

Crazy compared how little you get with their membership for $50 and how much I get out of this. I agree, $50 I would easily pay and when I first came here and found it was $25 I paid almost instantly because I felt it was so cheap before I even knew all the maps, options, etc

WOW

I think all of you defending this to the death should become politicians you all would make great democrats for sure. you get a talking point in your head and you say it over and over and over and over until people just stop caring.

I WILL SAY IT AGAIN IT'S NOT ABOUT HOW MUCH ITS COST RATHER THAN ITS ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE IN COST FOR MYSELF AND FOR ME TO BUY FOR SOME ONE ELSE!!!!!!!!! IT CAN BE $100 AND I AM FINE WITH IT BUT IF I HAVE TO PAY $150 FOR MY FRIEND AS A GIFT I AM ALL AGAINST IT LIKE I AM NOW!!!!!
