one apple? the question was asked why it was needed, if it was the same info on the pages of CC, just copy and pasted. who benefited from the clicks being driven away from CC? and what was the point in directing members to an offsite wikia that had the same info as the site? did someone get something for those clicks? made no sense. we are trying to retain members here, not send them to another site to look up info that is available right here. for instance, someone asked about game types and were directed, by a community volunteer, to that offsite website, which he copy/pasted together. why not direct them to the page here on CC where they copy and pasted the info for the wikia? just made no sense... made a valid argument for it, and help people understand. don't take your ball and go home...-Jn

Come on, owen, criticism is your thing, your primary mode of communication, your raison d'etre. You should at least have the guts to own up to it.

I think that stating your opinion about the wiki isn't bad, there's always room for constructive feedback, right? Unfortunately, I don't think your feedback was very constructive, Owen. I usually agree with your posts, but I feel you made this a personal vendetta, without recognizing the good intentions that you claim to have yourself.

Of course the guy who wrote the wiki is my clanmate, so that's an easy way to dismiss my post for being biased. Perhaps I am.
Still you, of all people, should applaud a fellow user for at least trying to help CC. If you disagree with the methods, fair enough, you can state that. Feedback can get CC to a higher level. This wasn't feedback, though. This was just continuous bashing of the effort a player made that has the same feeling about this site as you do. The feeling that things can be better than they are right now.

it was a legit question. nobody has answered who benefited from the clicks on an outside website that was not associated with CC. nobody has explained how copy and pasting the info from CC onto another site, was helpful to CC. nobody has explained the benefits of a CC volunteer openly sending members to another site for information that was readily available on CC. seriously, who benefited from the clicks? all legit questions. not one answer. just a tantrum, followed up by yet another CC volunteer having an even bigger tantrum, by declaring everyone trolls and locking the thread before responses could be made. the irony of his troll comment/and blast of trying to help some time, was not lost on the former moderators and users that helped the site for years, that were lumped into that tantrum. this is the kind of thing that cc needs to reign in from it's team members:

In this particular case, you've made your opinion on the wiki very clear. That's okay, not everyone has to like it. But it got to the point where criticism came close to bullying. And I'm positive that you also think that bullying is not okay, so I just wanted to point out that you did do that, but probably unintentionally.

Owen, you're kind of a weird guy (in the good sense of the word) with a straight up persona, I'm absolutely sure about that, because I've seen that time and time again on this forum. Yet, I do believe that you went a little too far this time. If your goal really is to help CC, the means to accomplish that are definitely not to scare away a mod (junior mint, as you'd probably like to add, lol) that genuinely wants to make this site better. Even if the way he does it, doesn't suit you.

As for who benefited... We can be sure that no one has quit CC, because the wiki wasn't good enough. The wiki is just an extra. So even if it sucks donkey balls, it really doesn't matter. And if someone got directed from this site to the wiki, what harm does that do? We live in a digital age, people can find their way on the internet. An extra browser-tab with extra information about CC won't hurt the CC-experience. This is just my opinion, of course.

Anyway, my point is that if we want CC to succeed in 2016 and further, it's not beneficial to burn down the people that put serious time in this site voluntarily.

The wiki actually organized the data in an easily displayed, searched, and organized way for new users. The current way is complained about because, should you just happen to stroll across the right tab, you may not be able to find what you are looking for- or it may not be there.

We were also using the wiki as the basis for the Strategy Revamp so we didn't spam GD with over 200 threads

No one monetarily benefitted from the wiki- it was all free. Who the heck cares if someone goes off site, and honestly, it's not your business to determine if something is useful to the community or not. You are not "God" around here, despite what you may have been lead to believe, and you have no place to degrade members or their work, nor does anyone else. The project was deemed useful by administration, and that was all the support it needed.

Also, as far as my comments- I have every right to say what I want and not let my teammates or myself take hits from the community, and to defend what I believe is right. I practice an open voice with fellow team members, administrators, and the community, and having a color doesn't take that away from me. As long as I am acting within the rules, I may say or do as I please.

and might i point out, that thread is not why he left. that thread was the last bit of his very public meltdown throughout the GD and a few other spots in the forums, the past 3 weeks (start on page 94 of the great decline thread. Pm me if you want details and not just the one sided victim story)... this was a GREAT answer... thank you for explaining it... however, i still don't see why you would send someone there from THIS forum to find out about TRENCH, when you could easily link them to the page which was copy/pasted to the wikia... right? anyway, just a random thought... however, thank you for the answer... you should have posted that in the thread you locked, for no reason... and calling members of the forums, "trolls", just because they ask questions or disagree with the volunteers isn't cool. some of those "trolls" were former MODs that gave a shit load of time and work and passion to this community... the black jesus has spoken...-Jésus noir

Who gives a shit whether it benefited the site? It was a volunteer doing it on their own personal volunteer time. If it made them happy to do it, it doesn't matter whether anyone used it. Maybe people should start questioning how you spend your own personal time and whether that benefits CC? (I'm guessing no, nothing you do here benefits CC, but we let you stay anyway for some reason unknown to me.)

No one on CC who is associated with staff really cares whether you think your predictions are valid or not, because you don't express them in a constructive manner. So whenever you post something like this, it doesn't actually help the situation, no matter how right you think you are.

I agree with owen on this. I think that the wiki should have been incorporated into CC, and not be offsite. What waauw was doing was helpful, but there are two issues I have, first being with ownership. The fact that it was even necessary for a volunteer to have to compile all that information into a central and easy to navigate spot speaks to the incompetence of our current owner. Secondly, I believe that it should have been contained within this site. Whether it had it's own read-only forum, or a link at the top of the page, whatever, I feel it should be on THIS site.

But you all need to stop pretending that waauw left this site because of owen. He did what he did because of himself. waauw is no saintly angel who doesn't engage in abrasive conversation himself. He interjects himself in certain conversations, through arrogance (his word) and apparent anger at times. For him to take his ball and run home is childish, and that reaction is completely on him. Stop demonizing owen over this, and maybe point the finger at the kid who acted like one.

right? and i find it really amusing that they are all jumping to an ex volunteers defense, as if he were the victim, etc... this was how he engaged the community at all times. this was how he rolled... this was how he talked to paying members, freemium, ex volunteers, ex mods, etc... did not matter, he spoke to everyone in the same ill manner and in the end, the thread would always be locked due to the community getting out of control. he was never to blame. this time, it is me. here is a little reminder of how his threads often went, with another member of the volunteer community, sweeping in to lock what he flamed.
