I'm not sure who is moaning for change all the time. I feel like people who run CC feel that they need to change things up to draw new people in. I think this is the wrong approach. There's probably only so many people you can get to join this. I think they should just stick to making longtime members happy and keeping them. The old search method was better. This new one is of poor design. Harder to use. Has more too it than needs to be. Dropped things that were useful before. The look and feel of it just is horrible. If its not broke don't fix it is my opinion. But I find if you disagree or view an opinion against CC that the people that run CC just bash those members and try to discredit those members. Maybe I'm getting side tracked here but the people running CC are horrible at dealing with the members of the site. I play on here with 6 friends and I can tell you that we are seriously considering going somewhere else. At least dropping our premium memberships.

Bottom right corner:

You now have six choices for sort order. Default should be Newest by Create Time First which was the standard for the old Game Finder as well. Maybe something went wrong and some bug crept into yours. Sounds like yours is sorting by Start Time First. Try hitting Reset and try again, see if it goes back to Newest by Create Time First. And as with all updates, the obvious question: have you cleared your cache since the update?

still not working, I searched the clan war game I created (105 games) still not in numerical order...

As premium members, who have paid to play CC and ultimatly pay for the site, so you freemium members can play for free should be able to expect a service that is glitch free.

I have no intention of leaving the site, but I also have no intention of paying for a game that's full of glitches. Especially when it seems they have been added for no good reason. When I said I predict a massive drop in premium members and an increase in freemium members, just like you WingCmdr Ginkapo.

I do find it a bit ironic that a freemium is moaning about a premium member wanting to no longer pay for a glitchy game.

I suggest that if you are so concerned about keeping the site going with all the 'moaning premium members' you get your credit card out and put your money where your mouth is! Just go to the store and click on the pay button its easy.

Are people having troubel with the new Game Finder?

Postby bernooch on Mon Aug 17, 2015 1:50 pm

I cannot get my search results to remain in my history for more than 1 game join...when I go back in my browser I return to a blank search screen......

I agree with so stupid......the search feature can only be used to join one game...then all the parameters delete....the old finder permitted you to go back in your web browser to the listings found from your search parameters...the new version does not.....it is, as others have stated, non-usable

You can right click and open in new tab, or hold control when you click and it will open in a new tab. (This is a cheesy workaround)

So many new cool features in html5 and css3 .. ajax or jquery.. They could/should when you join a game just "redraw" the current square of the game you joined and add your name to the player list. Maybe change the color of the square and have some sort of "joined" message without ever leaving the page.

Up until the new format, you could put in the required parameters, join a game, back click to your list of games that fit your parameter and join another, repeat and join another...........etc.

Now you have to resubmit the parameters every time, unless you ' right click and open in new tab, or hold control when you click and it will open in a new tab' 'a cheesy workaround'. So all you have done is taken a very simple process and made it complicated for apparently no good reason.

At no point has anyone said why it was necessary to fix (I use the word very loosely) something that wasn't broken! What was the reason?

If it was to try and attract new players, I can not see how making joining multiple games more complicated is going to attract players to pay for the privilege of playing more than 4 games when quite frankly trying to join more than 1 game at a time has now become a chore, unless they go through the hassle of wading through forums looking for 'cheesy workarounds'.

If I was a new player, just joined first time on the site and just spent half an hour resubmitting criteria so I could get 4 games going, I certainly would not be contemplating paying so I could have the privilege of repeating this process so I could play more than 4 games. In fact after the first time I have to resubmit the criteria I probably would have abandoned the site never to return.

Quite frankly as a premium member, I don't see why I should have to use 'cheesy workarounds, to enable me to do what I pay for the privilege of doing!

That was never the case for me. Always, since I've been here, if you join a game from Game Finder, it redirects you to your list of Active Games (if you're the last to join) or your list of Waiting Games (if you're not the last to join.) If that's not the way it worked for you, then you had some kind of browser setting that prevents automatic redirects, but that was always the way it worked for most people.

If I join more than one game at a time, it's by right-clicking the link and selecting "Open in a new tab". That has ALWAYS been the way for me, since the very first day I arrived on Conquer Club.

The redirects have always been there. I accept that maybe that's not the way it was for you, but if so you had some browser setting that disabled the redirects.

KernowWarrior wrote:At no point has anyone said why it was necessary to fix (I use the word very loosely) something that wasn't broken! What was the reason?

Incorrect. Go to the Suggestions forum, you will see tons of people asking for upgrades to the Game Finder, to be able to refine their search for things like Polymorphic Triples only instead of all Polymorphic games, to be able to search for games with a specific team-mate, to be able to put more than 100 results on their page. All of the things in this package are taken directly from Suggestions threads.

The reason that this particular package was implemented over some others was that it won the voting during Round 3 of the Guaranteed Suggestion Implementation program. This is a program where the owner has committed himself to implementing whichever Suggestion wins the vote. Every community member is free to vote, although most do not and so relatively small numbers of votes carry the day. Still, of the people that bothered to vote in Round 3, a majority voted for the Game Finder upgrade.

The original package, as voted on, with links to the individual Suggestions threads:

Well as it stands, I/we can still use the old game finder by removing the 2 at the end of the address bar and re submitting the address. Can I suggest that you give the option of choosing which game finder your directed to by default in setting, as are many other options, so I can't imagine it would be too difficult to implement. That would keep everyone happy.

Yeah, I would support that. I already suggested it to the chief a couple days ago.

I would massively object to that. Having two versions of a page running concurrently is a sure way to make the website code vastly longer than it needs to be and thus cause server load. This site has enough issues with running smoothly as it is.

I don't know about that. If you're not using a page, it doesn't need to load for you. The maps database doesn't sit there churning away when you're not looking at it.

We already have options for:-
Panel Interface
Advanced Processing on Game Page
Map Inspect
Color Coded Drop Downs
Confirm Deploy
Confirm Auto Assault
Confirm Phase End
Automated Snapshots
Hide Dice
Hide Left Nav
Map Size
Side Stats
Color Codes
Game Invitations
Chat Settings
Live Chat Popup
Show Global Chat

Its not going too much effort to add another!

Its quite obvious that the new game finder is not popular, the only person I can see that actually likes it is WingCmdr Ginkapo. So either get rid of the new game finder page or give the choice so WingCmdr Ginkapo can be kept happy.

Only thinking of you WingCmdr Ginkapo

This would literally cause zero extra server load. The old one has been running for years and years and if people like it, then use it.

I agree with most of the comments about missing or broken features, but I really hate the output format.
The main things that I'd like to see are:
  • A list format with one type of data per column.
  • The list can be sorted by each column, either ascending or descending.
  • The user can hide columns that they're not interested in.
  • Search settings can be easily saved and reloaded.
I made up a rough version of what it could look like:
image
The team size field would apply to both standard (doubles, triples, quads) and poly games.
The open slots field would allow you to search and sort by the number of available openings. Combined with the teammate option, you could search for a doubles game that has room for you and a friend to join as a team.
If you're searching for only one value in a particular field, then hiding that column will save space and make it easier to see the information that's important to you.
The ability to save and load search settings would be a huge benefit no matter what options or format is being used.

This is what it would look like if all of the columns were shown:

Definitely not. That's worse than the current incarnation for any tournament organiser.

What is a tournament organizer looking for? Did you look at the version with all of the columns shown? Is there some combination of those that would make you happy, or is there something still missing from that list?

The point of this was that each person could see what they want, and not be bothered by stuff they're not interested in.

The actual dates aren't important, but it's useful to organise from oldest to newest or vice versa. The actual date isn't needed for anything I can think of.

As a tournament organiser I need to know which players are in the game and I need to see the game label. For example, one tournament I'm currently running has four separate groups of players all playing identical games. If I can't see the players immediately in the game finder then my job of tracking those games suddenly got much more tedious.

Which date is important? You can choose to display any or all of them, but you'd have to display a column to sort by it. (There are other ways, but the user interface gets more complex and less flexible.)
I took a shot at what a tournament organizer might need (just pretend that the label and tournament columns have something in them, that the maps are the same, etc.) There is no one set of information that will make everyone happy, so I think the best solution would be to allow people to choose for themselves what they want to see.

BTW, the player names could still be links, and it could show their rank and rating, but I didn't bother adding that to my example.

That's better, but nowhere close to looking good from an aesthetics perspective. None of the dates are important in my opinion. I think the old game finder is still the best. The new one has potential, but its colour scheme makes it look like it doesn't belong on this website and the bugs need working out. It should also not show the options once the search is done.
