Liberation newspaper has quoted Vincent, a journalist who was at the Stade de France, where France was playing Germany in a football game.

"Everybody went onto the pitch. The crowd of anxious people began moving after the final whistle, no one knew what had happened outside. We heard two big bangs in the first half and then another one that was smaller. A helicopter was in the air above the stadium after half time," he said.

"The match carried on as if nothing had happened but we were following everything on Twitter, especially the fact that President Hollande had been evacuated even though none of us saw him leave. I didn't see any of the second half. There was an announcement that people should leave via the south, north and west exits but five minutes later many of the spectators had returned."

I was in Washington a few days ago and they are undoubtedly feeling pretty upset that their incompetence has been demonstrated by the Russians coming in as they have.

"American policy has gone wrong in a lot of ways and their original training programme didn't work and their missions on the ground have visibly not been very effective.

"So in public terms they were looking for successes and that is partly for the fact that the Russians are doing so well on the ground.

Four years ago this month, after France bombed Libya, leading to a mass breakout of Islamist extremists from Benghazi Central Prison, Saif al-Islam al-Qaddafi was captured by the rats and said ...

"You people have no idea idea what you've just unleashed. In a few years you'll find out. On that day, do not say Saif al-Islam did not warn you."

The "peaceful protesters" from Benghazi finally arrived in France to say thank you for the jailbreak. France released more than 800 when they bombed Libya so one would anticipate many more thank yous are on their way.

(In other anniversary news, 59 years ago on the day of the Paris attacks, roughly the same number of Palestinians were killed in the Rafah Massacre when an Israeli army patrol suddenly showed up in the village, rounded-up all boys over the age of 15, and summarily executed them.)

Also, I wonder how many blasting caps on the ISIS bombs that went off in Paris are American made and part of the equipment abandoned by the Iraqi Army when they fled? Hopefully the families of the bereaved sue the U.S. Government for $100 billion and the U.S. has to mortgage the Grand Canyon to China to pay the damages for its gross criminal negligence.

France started bombing runs in Syria last month against ISIS. It's war, people, France is a belligerent in this war and so one cannot be surprised that retaliation comes. Note, I'm not judging France, people just have to understand that there is no distinction between civilian and combatant in this war from either side.

Countries that have stayed out of the mess that is Syria haven't been attacked. I remember Hollande giving his announcement that France was going to start conducting bombing missions in Syria. He framed it as France "defending itself". This is the inevitable blowback that comes from intervening in quagmires like Syria.
The ironic thing is, though we'll never know for sure and it won't be reported, but the people who carried out this attack in Paris have had in the past at least indirect support of some kind from the US. Whether the US intended to give said support to such radical elements, this is what has been going on for years in Syria. US giving arms, training, money and expertise to supposed "moderate Islamists" always finds its way into the hands of the Jihadists.

My sincere condolences to France, the victims and the families of the victims.

Bingo. The lesson here is the same as it's always been: if you want to keep your head and limbs attached to your torso, don't vote for a government that floods the Middle East with guns, don't vote for a government that occasionally bombs various places in the Middle East to oblivion. Other than Russia, I can't think of a single nation in the world that's been attacked by Islamists who hasn't made the choice to stick their hand in the furnace. The only ones attacked are the ones pumping guns like they're candy into Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the rebel flavor-of-the-month.

France now needs to follow Canada's lead. The next few days there can be some stories of courageous citizens that get pumped out in the media. Some hero who did something-or-another. Then announcements of steely-resolve and commitment to stop those "who hate freedom," rattle some sabers, beat some drums (Bernie Sanders got the ball rolling a few posts ago with his Michael Bay monologue about NATO united or whatever). Then, when everyone is watching the rugby, quietly retreat as fast as your chubby little legs can carry you. Canada hasn't been attacked again and, if France does the same, neither will it.
