I read alot of the free books but they r all series so i would get sucked into a series and eventually he got a bank statement

Im actually quite spoiled but money has been tight he got hurt at work and was out for 3 months. And we have been supporting his brother and nephew and his siste in law who stole almost a grand worth of cash and other things.
I am far from abused except that one time

do they not have libraries in the US anymore? or better yet, a good used bookstore? used bookstores are awesome, you never know what you'll find, and for cheap. one of the biggest things i miss about big city living...*sighs*

Yes they do and there is one in town but its a hassle then i have a book to return and if it gets damaged and ever since my motherinlaw was ARRESTED for a $2 library fine I've tried to avoid libraries.
No used book store around me the closest one is 80 miles away as far as i know
But even if i dont have any room left for books that i may never read again. With kindle it stores it for me

Most of my books are actual books as well. Only have 2 on my Kindle, and those are more for times when I just want a light read.

Though, it is nice I don't have to worry about ripping a page with the Kindle, I admit that.

I like not having to plug my book into a wall in order to read it. That and being able to give a book to someone else.

PS: Dukasaur, if you are that obsessed with LOTR, I really hope you've read "The Silmarillion".
When I was young it took me three attempts to get started on it because the first chapter is so bloody boring, but once you get through the bible-like creation of the world story it is a book that far surpasses the trilogy in my opinion. Ofc, it's written in a very different way so I wouldn't blame anyone who said they prefer the trilogy.

Battlefield Earth, L. Ron Hubbard. He was an outstanding scifi author....fattest paperback I've ever read.....read it about once every 3 years as I like it that much ;o)

Travolta absolutely destroyed it in attempting to make it a movie

That's always been my problem with libraries. By the time I remember to return the book I owe $10 in late fees. It's cheaper to buy them, in the long run.

Of course I read the Silmarillion. Loved it.

I'm not really obsessed with LOTR. It was just a comfortable read. I always hate starting anything new. It's just easier to slip into something old and comfortable rather than exploring new ground. It's sort of like re-watching your favourite movies when you have all the lines memorized. It sort of becomes a participatory activity. You speak the lines along with the actors. It was sort of like that for me with my favourite books. Of all the old and comfortable things on my bookshelf, LOTR was the most comfortable and easy to get into. "Begone, foul dwimmerlaik, lord of carrion, and leave the dead in peace!" I would intone to myself, flipping directly to the Death of Theoden. Or I would sing, "By fire, sun, and moon, hearken now and hear us!" jumping straight to Fog on the Barrow-Downs.

One of the last books I read cover-to-cover, albeit only twice.

Sadly, I pretty much stopped reading once video games were invented. In the last 30 years, there's probably been fewer than two dozen books that I've actually read cover-to-cover.

I just keep going thru the scifi section of the library from a-z and always find new stuff to read...wife HATES it, but she can't, in good conscience, screech "Quit reading! That sucks!!!" in front of the kids...teachers would string her up

Probably The Count of Monte Cristo. I don't think ive ever been as intrigued, excited, saddened and happy. Personally for me the pacing of the story was perfect, and despite some rather fantastical events, I never really had to suspend my disbelief. Dumas' characters inner monologue is rather impressive, but the book can be rather verbose, depending on the translation. It's the kinda dialogue that sounds better in your head than outloud.

I really have trouble understanding people who don't read books. I deal with a lot of people with developmental problems, and they all want to read, even if they can't.

People who can read, but choose not to, are really out of my wheelhouse. The last person I spoke to who hated physical books had severe arthritis in her wrists and couldn't turn the pages without a nasty amount of pain though.

The Voynich Manuscript. It's like the Sword and the Stone for books. Only the chosen one can read it. I read absolutely no fiction. I find reality much more interesting.

skinny legs and all or jitterbug perfume, probably. for a light, summer read try my uncle Oswald by Roald dahl(not a kids' book)- good for a day @ the beach. just finished three day road, excellent book. and before that I read Anthony beevors' Stalingrad. also read the sisters' brothers a while back, kind of a neat book. always liked the fabled of Aesop when I was a kid...
