Pinball!

Postby 2dimes on Tue Jun 18, 2019 12:40 pm

I went to a convention in Edmonton. There were over a hundred machines most set for free play. So I'm enjoying it right now and kind of want to buy a machines.

Anyone play lately?

Here are a few places to buy one but they are kind of expensive.

It would be fun for at least a few weeks though.

I do love joust but it might get old quick. How much is it?

I also kind of want to go to a big convention in LA or somewhere.

As the saying goes, verity is the spice of life. Maybe a stand up version packed with more than one game. Or maybe a PS2 or Atari.

True, you can buy units with three thousand games on them.
My brother inlaw built a little arcade video game console pre loaded with games for my offspring, it has joust on it. I think it is made of corrugated paper but it's pretty fun.

You can buy electronic pinball but it's just not the same as actual steel balls.

I found a Black Knight by Williams, it's pretty cool but $4000 Canadian bit more than I would like to spend..

Played a ton as a kid (before video games....lol). In college, 8 ball deluxe was my go to. LOVE to own that machine. Looked around a little - 2 on eBay, 1 is 6 grand, 1 is 12.

A guy probably should have bought a bunch back when you could buy nice ones for under $2000 because hardly anyone wanted one in their home. Then again wages were lower and they seemed expensive then too.

I have 8 at the moment, have bought, done up, and sold maybe 30. The bible is the Internet Pinball machine Database: https://www.ipdb.org/search.pl. Msg me if yuo want a chat on good/bad/ reliable/ terrible machimes from late 70s to 2000s' . If you want to own one you must either learn a little bit of repair or have a pinball tech nearby..they break down! The golden age of pin is the 90's

As mentioned, there is a convention in capital city once a year.

We also have a few bars here that have set up several machines in them. One has a twenty dollar free play for a family of four on sundays so of course my wife does not want me to spend $4000 buying the Williams 1980 Black Knight I found. Tempted though.

I was watching a guy from Australia on YouTube and he was saying the new Stern machines are not as reliable.

My current favorites are the Black Knight, Gilligan's Isle and for new ones, Batman 66, Black Knight Sword of Rage and Octoberfest ~Pinball On Tap~. Problem is I tend to have grass is greener syndrome.
