Round 1 boards (Winners advance + 3 next-best scores earn wildcard spots into semifinals)
RULES
Settings for all maps will be escalating, chained, sunny with a 20-round limit.
Some alterations may take place if the category name hints at it.
We have three basic categories.
1 vs. 1 — On the $200/$400 level you will play a game against each of the other two players. Finish 2-0 to win the clue. If all players finish 1-1-1, then the winner in the fewest rounds takes the clue. Next tiebreaker is winner with most troops.
If you go winless, then you get marked for a missed 'ring'.
On the $600+ levels, you will play twice against each of the other two players. Finish with the best record to win the clue. Finished tied and the above tiebreakers take effect. Finish winless, and you get marked up for a missed ring.
3-player — Win the map, win the clue. (No missed rings)
Mission — Accomplish the mission, win the clue. Missions can include finish with the most earned cards, hold a named territory the most times during the game, hold the most territories within a given province during a game, or hold the most capitals during the game. Missions will be announced both in game chat in via pm when the clue is chosen.
Missions objectives are added at the end of each round with grand totals once the game is complete.
Finish last in the mission stats and get hit with a missed ring. Failure to hold an owned card or any of the marked territories also gets you a missed ring.
Every third 'missed ring' will result in that player losing the amount of that clue. So, if you have two missed rings on your ledger, and you go on to finish winless in US Cities $400, then you would lose $400 from your total score.
You would also be at risk for losing $$$ on your 6th, 9th, 12th, etc., missed rings.
I'll will post missed rings next to your name in the scoreboard once we get started.
DAILY DOUBLES
There are two hidden Daily Doubles on each board.
Players may wager any amount of their total score that they would like. If you only have $800, you can wager up to $1,000 (the highest amount on the board).
All Daily Doubles clues are 2-person battles, so when you make your wager, you will also select which of your opponents you would like to play. Win the matchup and win your wager. Lose the matchup and lose your wager.
The challenged player cannot gain any money in this showdown, but with a win, they will get one of their missed rings removed AND get choice for the next clue.
FINAL JEOPARDY
One final clue will be revealed and all players who have $$$ will make a wager.
Final Jeopardy is a 1 vs. 1 showdown playing each of your other two opponents once.
Win a map and win your wager. Go winless and you lose your wager.
Player with the highest total at the end of Final Jeopardy wins the board and advances to the semifinals.
Also, we'll have three wildcard spots into the semifinals for the next three highest scorers.
It may sound a bit complicated, but I think it will all start to make sense once we get play underway.
One final caution, the boards share categories for Round 1, but the clues under each dollar amount are scattered across all the boards. So if you see the $200 Water Everywhere clue on board 1, it will not be the same as the $200 clue on Board 2, 3, 4, etc.
Players will have 24 hours to respond in choosing a category or making their wagers. Once this deadline has expired, I will use a default system for selecting categories and any default wager will be half of your total.
All right enough rules. Let's play!!!
Here's a tournament to honor the late Alex Trebek and my favorite TV game show. Trebek's final episode is scheduled to run Christmas night.
Game play will run like Jeopardy, except we will be playing one board per match (no Double Jeopardy). Pick a category and a point amount, and you will play a mix of styles based on the clue.
First clue choice will be decided by a random number generator.
After that whoever wins the map gets to choose the next clue.
Some matches will be 1 vs. 1 style, others will be 3-player showdowns, some will have an objective to attain (in those cases, the winner of the objective claims the square, not necessarily the winner of the map).
There will be two Daily Double squares on the board. Hit one of these and you will be given the opportunity to select the amount you would like to wager (up to your total score).
And of course, we'll finish with Final Jeopardy. One clue, and you can wager any amount of your total score that you choose.
Player with the most $$ at the end of Final Jeopardy wins the game.
Advancing ...
We will have six (6) first-round games ... winners automatically advance to the semifinals.
Also three wildcard players will advance ... the non-winners with the top three totals.
We will have three (3) semifinal games ... winners only advance to the championship
And one (1) championship board to decide the winner of this tourney.
Sample board.
