This is a no-frills doubles Double Elimination tournament that will take place on only classic-like maps. It's double elimination because you can't win 'em all, but with luck and skill maybe you can win most of 'em.
Number of Teams: 16, so we will need 32 players. I ask that you all have patience because it will take a while to get 16 teams signed on. Last day of sign-ups will be May 25. Bracket will be generated and tournament will start as soon as 16 teams are confirmed or by May 25th, whichever comes first. See my ongoing tournament for how the bracket will look.
If you can't find a partner and you would like to participate, please sign up. There will likely be other singles who want to play. If there are multiple singles signed up I will team you up with the most similarly ranked player. Of course, I will not team anyone up until I first private message you to make you're OK playing with that particular player.
Game Type: Doubles
Settings: Automatic, Sequential, No Spoils, Chained, 20-turn round limit. No Fog, No Trench.
Format: Double Elimination, randomly seeded. Best of 7. To make sure it's fair and everyone actually gets a second chance, the winner of the Upper Bracket will have to be defeated in two best of 7's in the finals.
Reward: fun, pride, bragging rights, and 3 months premium to the victors.
General Information and Tournament Rules: I reserve the right to declare a winner of the series before they are 100% completed in the interest of keeping the tournament moving. In that vein, the tournament will move forward asymmetrically. What I mean is Round 2 could start at different times for different players, depending on how quickly the matches resolve.
The way I determine a winner of a game early is I look for a 2-to-1 power score. Or a significant reinforcement advantage and a 1.5-to-1 power score. In addition, I look closely at these games to determine if there's any chance in hell of a comeback.
I will kick players out of the tourney for dead beating, over-the-top stalling, or abusive chat. If possible and if it makes sense we will substitute reserves for players unable to continue.
If you need to postpone a particular round for whatever reason just let me know and we will do our best to accommodate.
Other things to note: I'm still modifying my map pool. Expect it to get bigger. I may make matches best of 9 instead of best of 7 to further minimize luck. That being said I don't want to overwhelm players with amount of games. Feedback?
Map Pool: Selected classic-like maps. I randomly select 7 maps from my map pool for each round. No repeat maps in consecutive rounds.
For example, if I roll Classic in round 1, and then again in round 2, I will reroll. Classic in round 3 would be fair game.
How I chose these maps: No obtuse game play rules. You should should be able to look at the map and understand how to play almost immediately. Starting territories must be 6 or greater. Starting number of territories must not fall on 12,15,18,21.
Well I was hoping for 16 teams but with only 1 sign-up in the last 8 days that's looking extremely unlikely.
Technically we only need 8 teams for full tournament privileges, but more would be fun.
We will say last day of sign-ups will be May 25.
If the total number of teams is between 9 and 15, there will be byes involved. I'm not sure exactly how that will look because with double elimination things will already be a bit wonky, but I suppose that's up to Challonge to figure out. As noted in the opening post, initial seeding is randomized by random.org, so any byes are up to lady luck.
