My man, they can't even handle double entendre and word play around here, what makes you think they could handle Flame Wars?!!!

You may have completely missed the point.Apatheist wrote: Sun Jan 11, 2026 11:27 am How about everyone just being polite to people, recognising that this is just a kids game with a large slice of luck, that sometimes people aren't going to play how you would like, and it's not a test or statement of your manliness? That way, no-one needs to insult or be insulted by anyone. There's a poem by Rudyard Kipling called "If"; I would draw your attention to the line "If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same" among many wise words, and finishes with the lines "Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!"
Dealing with winning or losing equally, without getting carried away with excitement or disappointment, is the mark of a man - not being able to swear or be aggressive, or deride people for being "too soft". Take a step back and ask yourself why you need people to have a backbone for playing a board game for fun. If you need to lash out because someone got luckier with the dice, or made a wrong move, I don't see the problem being their lack of backbone.

Well, I can't imagine what else would cause you to attack someone verbally other than their play or chat, unless you know them in real life, in which case this wouldn't be the place to deal with it. Who is to say what someone "deserves"? As Ricky Gervais observed, "Just because you're offended, it doesn't mean you're right". Isn't this just going to extend people's foe lists and reduce the number of available games? Might it also not put off new joiners who see how players treat each other? I suspect that the main reason for it not being available is that one could probably sue someone for libel or defamation if it were related to anything outside the realm of the site, and therefore the site might be liable, so I wouldn't see them risking that.gcwca_4_life wrote: Sun Jan 11, 2026 1:49 pmYou may have completely missed the point.Apatheist wrote: Sun Jan 11, 2026 11:27 am How about everyone just being polite to people, recognising that this is just a kids game with a large slice of luck, that sometimes people aren't going to play how you would like, and it's not a test or statement of your manliness? Well, part of it.
Flame Wars was an off topic forum section.
A section where you could openly trash anyone, and if they had the guts they could lash back.
It has absolutely nothing to do with dice, or conquer club. It has absolutely everything to do with calling people out for who they truly are as a person and how horrible their character is.
Not everything on here has to be about dice and luck. Where is the fun in that?
When they removed flame Wars CC lost over 3k members. .and I'm running to bring it back..
And it also have everything to do with the coddled cancel culture weak spined no backbone kids who need life lessons that I got when I was in my teenage years that can't be given because it was removed in the first place.
If I bash someone for who they truly are and how horrible of a person they are in any forum section on here now I get banned. But in flame Wars they get everything they deserve.
Bring it back! Bring it back! Bring it back!!!!

Personally, I think there are better ways of dealing with the emotional baggage from one's past than purposefully trying to offend strangers.gcwca_4_life wrote: Mon Jan 12, 2026 12:01 amThe whole point of flame Wars was to offend, not to be offended. If you were to ask owenshooter, or anyone that was active on the site 15 years ago, that's an extremely false statement. Personally, and this is just one Conqueror’s opinion… but if I may just interject with that- I think Apatheist is being a bit of a ponce on the subject, being that this was a gentlemen’s strategic game of war far before Hasbro circumcised it, commodified it, got it strung out on smack, proceeded to 360° reverse pimp-hand it after it didn’t have it’s 2 fitty and then finally shat it out into it’s current state of postmodernity.
So saying that it should be a safe place free from foul language or some bull is almost mental at this point. If this is a kid’s game then I’m Howdy fucking Doody. We’re entering Web 3.0 soon, troops and so a lot of today’s internet issues surrounding language will inevitably be auto corrected. So for all of you internet hall monitors out there, hold fast.
Beyond that, all wars are first fought psychologically before shits and fans go kinetic. So the ethics behind taking the piss out of someone or intellectually dunking on a scrub online who is an obvious chode monger shouldn’t really bother anybody. That’s whether you’re Marxist, vegan, feminist like Apatheist, a beardmaxxxing soyjack minimalist like gcwca or even an illusive Maple boomer CC Shamen in the spiritual realm like the big -0 here.
Take it from them.

The site has lost so much membership because most people started getting old and croaking, sadly.. or people just started acting like jerks and making multiple accounts and getting that good ole ip ban.Apatheist wrote: Fri Jan 16, 2026 5:38 am The site has lost more than 80% of its membership. In my view, the macho posturing, knuckle-dragging mentality is these days less likely to persuade newcomers to stay than a friendly, competitive but supportive environment, precisely *because* the world is now fuller of "woke snowflakes" than it used to be. It's called adapting to the current market.
I could be wrong, of course - so you carry on as you are, and let's see if the membership increases.
Ps I'm neither Marxist nor vegan, but certainly a feminist - thanks for the compliment.

Nah. There are rules for wall post that can get one in trouble even if just an outsider reported it.Apatheist wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 9:32 am Can you not do that with private messages or posting on each other's walls, if you feel the need that strongly?

NahApatheist wrote: Sun Jan 18, 2026 5:59 am The solution would appear to be:
a) enlist a mod
b) agree amongst fellow would-be flamers that you can each flame each other on your walls
c) send a list to the mod of who you are happy to have post anything on your wall without consequence
d) the mod posts, on your wall, something to the effect of "<you> are happy to have any comment posted on this wall by <flamer1, flamer2, flamer3> - this has been sanctioned by the moderators, please do not report them"
- ideally this would be pinned to the top of the wall and remain visible
e) You may then send whatever homophobic, racist, misogynistic, transphobic, derogatory nonsense to each other that you want: you get to flame someone, and no-one gets offended.
With great freedom comes great responsibility though: by agreeing to this, you also agree NEVER to post any such comment in any Forum thread, global chat or game chat.
If you are caught doing so, that invokes an immediate forum and chat ban. Mods can decide for how long, but I would suggest a minimum of 3 months to start, with rising time periods for repeat infractions (maybe 6 months, 1 year, permanent).
You all get a release for your personal issues, and the site gets users more engaged with the forum and hopefully more inclined to submit ideas that make the site better and encouraging for new users. The mods will have more time to focus elsewhere.
How does that sound to you?

Original..Apatheist wrote: Sun Jan 18, 2026 9:11 am Given that that is almost certainly not going to happen, wouldn't you rather at least have some free flaming than none at all?

Just one final thought - will you be limiting the rules to racism, or updating to include other generally unacceptable content (sexism, homophobia etc)?TeeGee wrote: Sun Jan 18, 2026 4:11 pm We can meet you half way at the street corner, located inside acceptable content (off topics forum)
