USA Men AND Women Win the Gold Medal over Team Canada 2 - 1, in Hockey, BOTH games in OVERTIME....!!

USA...! USA...!! USA.....!!!!

I just finished watching the Ice Hockey game on video replay; I went to Church this morning and taught my Sunday School Class, too, so I watched until the US goes down to a 3v5 penalty KILL and the US did manage to kill off that Penalty situation. Our Goalie, Conner Hellebuyck, was a Hell of a Player TODAY...!

Who is Team USA's goalie? Meet Connor Hellebuyck, the 3-time Vezina Trophy winner who plays for Canadian NHL team

USA wins TWELVE Gold Medals in the 2026 Winter Olympics, the Most ever by a USA Team (if I heard correctly) and end up in Second place in the overall Medal Count....!

1. Norway: 41 Total (18 Gold, 12 Silver, 11 Bronze)
2. United States: 33 Total (12 Gold, 12 Silver, 9 Bronze)
3. Italy: 30 Total (10 Gold, 6 Silver, 14 Bronze)

US wins 3rd Olympic gold in women’s hockey, beating Canada 2-1 on Megan Keller’s OT goal
https://www.chicagotribune.com/2026/02/ ... cs-canada/

That TOO was a Dramatic WIN, in OT, over the US's main rival in Women's Hockey. USA now has won 3 Gold Medals to 5 for Team Canada (Women).

And THERE are many MORE stories of Great Athletes and Great Competition and Great Stories from the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games. Anyone else have any stories to share or any angles on these games?

I assume President Trump will want to invite both Hockey Teams, and other Great American Athletes, such as Jordon Stolz and Alysa Lui, to the White House VERY SOON.

Look for stories on the Game: it was ON NBC.
Team USA’s Jack Hughes Preaches Patriotism After Scoring Gold Medal Goal With Missing Teeth

Jack Hughes was overwhelmed with American pride after scoring the game-winning goal in sudden death overtime against Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics, earning Team USA its first goal medal in men’s hockey in 46 years.

“This is all about our country right now,” Hughes, 24, told NBC Sports’ Kathryn Tappen shortly after the game. “I love the USA. I love my teammates. It’s unbelievable. The USA hockey brotherhood is so strong. We had so much support from ex-players. I’m so proud to be an American today.”

Hughes, who moved to Michigan during high school to play for the United States National Team Development Program, scored the gold medal-clinching goal sans multiple teeth knocked out after being hit with a high stick by Canada’s Sam Bennett in the third period.

In his postgame interview with Tappen, 44, Hughes credited the play of Team USA goalie Connor Hellebuyck, a native of Commerce Township, Michigan.

YOU HAVE TO LOVE the toughness of Hockey Players. This reminds me of Derrick White of the Boston Celtics losing ONE tooth in his Championship Game for the NBA. I then looked it up and found this article
Celtics Joke Jack Hughes’ Gold Medal Tooth Loss Is Good Luck, Just Ask Derrick White

During Game 5 of the 2024 NBA Finals, White chipped his tooth while diving for a loose ball and hitting his face on the ground. But, in the end, White was a champion, as the Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks in that game, 106-88. And even the Celtics poked fun at Hughes’ moment, sharing a photo of him along with the viral photo of White.

Jack Hughes' postgame interview on NBC immediately went viral on Sunday morning.

The 24-year-old New Jersey Devils star scored the game-winning goal for the United States on Sunday morning. Hughes gave the Americans the win - and the gold medal - with his golden goal on Sunday. He scored the game-winning goal minutes after losing some of his teeth in a big hit.

Team USA’s Tear-Jerking Tribute with Johnny Gaudreau’s Kids After Olympic Gold Win Goes Viral

MORE: same source
Team USA hockey wins the Gold medal for the first time in 46 years.

It was an emotional day for Team USA for many reasons after they won the Gold medal. Johnny Gaudreau’s light was still shining bright at the 2026 Olympics.

After they defeated Team Canada 2-1 to earn a historic gold medal, several players honored the late NHL star. Gaudrea was killed in a biking accident along with his brother Matthew Gaudreau in August 2024. The brothers were said to be riding bikes on a rural road in Oldmans Township when they were struck by a vehicle.

The man accused of taking their lives allegedly used the oncoming lane to pass a sedan when he struck the two brothers when he re-entered the right lane. To make matters worse, Johnny Gaudreau and his brother were set to be groomsmen at their sister’s Philadelphia wedding.

Seven months after losing her husband, Meredith Gaudreau held her newborn son, who never got the chance to meet his father. His teammates never forgot about him and made sure they would share in the Team USA moment.

Well, the claim is that the Communists who RULED in the former USSR (and other Communist Nations) had professional Teams, such as the Soviet Team the US beat in the Miracle on Ice in 1980. I guess that is OKAY, that the Soviets had pros who "did NOT work in the Soviet Army" so that we could have a Story Book Ending of the US collegiate beating that PRO Team, HUH??

And we in the USA should NOT have had the Dream Team of NBA players, including Jordan, Pippen, Magic, and Bird in 1992? Because they are PROS???

The DREAM of amateur sports died before 1980, ConfedSS. (SEE ** Below) It is DEAD NOW, for sure. Yes, there are amateur athletes in many minor sports, such as Curling, where the US women's team consisted of, among others, two sisters where one is a dentist and the other a pharmacist (as well as Moms, a RATHER IMPORTANT JOB, too, ConfedSS). I guess pros Moms work in a Day Care, HUH??

Many athletes in many sports are PROS. THAT does NOT RUIN the Olympics, does not Ruin the drama, the stories, the COMPETITION. You can continue to live in your DREAM world, wishing that ALL athletes are AMATEURS, that there are Unicorns, and where no one kills anyone anytime, ConfedSS. I will LIVE in the REAL world with ALL its imperfections and that still has WONDERS, and Stories, drama, FUN, and competition.

And BE SURE NOT to watch the FIFA World Cup, NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL ConfedSS, with all those PROS.

And because an athlete can compete for a nation where they are NOT born, that TOO RUINS the Olympics? REALLY? So ALL those basketball players NOT born in the USA CANNOT compete in the NBA? Like Giannis Antetokounmpo - (2-time MVP, recognized for his athleticism and versatility) and Nikola Jokić - (2-time MVP, praised for his unique skill set as a center.) And btw, Joel Embiid (Joel Hans Embiid is a Cameroonian and American professional basketball player for the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association) should NOT PLAY for the US Olympic Team, RIGHT???

And I can NAME other athletes in other sports, but why beat a dead amateur????

And speaking of the Death of Amateur Sports, are you AWARE, ConfedSS, of NIL in NCAA Sports, one of the Last Great Bastions of "Amateur Sports." And the Transfer Portal?

**
The Transition from Amateurism to Professionalism
As the 20th century moved on, so did the perception of sport. The idea of the gentleman amateur gradually became out-dated and the line between amateur and professional became blurred. One of the main reasons for this lay not in the capitalist west but in the communist Eastern Bloc countries, such as Russia and East Germany. They pioneered the idea of the state sponsored ‘full time amateur athlete’, which in turn, put those athletes who were forced to be self financing at a severe disadvantage. The IOC also gradually came to the realisation that allowing sponsorship, advertising, and other commercial interests could turn the Olympic Games into a goldmine that could attract the very best international professional athletes.

The most iconic moment that defines the leap from amateurism to professionalism in the Olympic Games was the United States Basketball team at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. The team was made up of some of the most famous ever players to play in the NBA including Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Patrick Ewing and was described as the ‘Dream Team’, as well as the greatest sports team ever to be assembled. Unsurprisingly, the team easily progressed through the Olympic competition and won the gold medal, beating Croatia 117-85 in the final.

Reallize that the USA won 12 Gold Medals at these Olympics, the most ever in any Winter Games. The US also ended up second in the Medal Count, behind Norway (a nation of only some 5 million people) and just ahead of Host Country Italy.

They were ONLY a FEW "idiots" that did not express a love of Country, that specifically disparaged (disrespected) their nation; I will not even give them any more attention by naming them.

Most Americans who competed showed their love of Country, especially when the Nation Anthem was played during their Gold Medal Ceremony. (I am sure some US Athletes are apolitical and did not say a word either way,) NBC had a nice "piece" (report) on that emotional reaction to seeing the Star Spangled Banner playing as the Stars and Stripes was raised during the Medal Ceremony. Some US athletes were not very moved by that ceremony, BUT MOST were, it seems to me. For most Americans, seeing the Gold Medal Ceremony 12 times was indeed very moving and very emotional and caused a swelling of National Pride. I am sure that for other nations, the same is true, that their Gold Medal winning athletes felt an emotional reaction and much pride seeing THEIR Flag raised and THEIR national anthem played.

Most athletes understand the importance of national support for their efforts and react very favorably to wearing the uniform of their nation. BTW: this was very apparent in the book I read recently, The Boys in the Boat, by Daniel James Brown, about the 1936 US 9 man rowing Team. The Boys were also grateful that their state of Washington and their hometowns donated money (mostly private citizens and a few businesses dontated) to SEND them to Berlin, because during the Depression, the US Olympic Commitee was NOT willing to send them with their money.

Let me TRY to CUT through the FOG and CONFUSION here by our Friend ConfedSS.

You seem confused, AGAIN, ConfedSS.

Why is Russia and Belarus banned (as Nations) from the Olympics in 2024 and 2026? Because of the War in Ukraine, supported by Belarus. (Some of their athletes can compete, but not represent their nations with Flag and uniforms and official recognition as citizens of those two nations, instead, AIN designation, as I recall.)

https://www.newsweek.com/countries-bann ... 6-11461212

Many Russian Athletes have also been banned INDIVIDUALLY for CHEATING/Doping, which was RAMPANT in 2014 at Sochi.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doping_in_Russia

Then Secretary of State Cyrus Vance persuaded President Jimmy Carter to have the US Athletes boycott the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. In return, they and the then Soviet Bloc nations of Eastern Europe boycotted the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angelos. That was BY CHOICE and NOT a BAN, ConfedSS. The USA CHOSE to NOT compete; they and other supporing Nations were NOT BANNED; they CHOSE to Boycott. NOT the same, ConfedSS.
Carter reflected on 1980 Olympic boycott: ‘A bad decision’ It was a decision that robbed hundreds of athletes of their once-in-a-lifetime chance at Olympic glory.
The rest of your post about Tanya Harding merely "muddies the waters." The same with your rant on Mass Shootings. Because there are "a few Bad Apples" DOES NOT make the entire NATION evil or worthy of contempt, if that is your intent. Quite Frankly, as with many of your recent posts, you OFFER LOTS of confusion and incoherence. I am NOT sure what POINT you are making, if anything COGENT or even merely COHERENT. Your stream of consciousness manner of posting is simply............... CONFUSION.

I am NOT sure what I should post in response. SHOULD I point out your BLATANT errors so you can ALL PISSED because I show that your memory is FAULTY? at least on some details. IDK. And often, you draw WRONG conclusions and/or offer a confusing and incorrect view of the sweep of History.

And your spelling errors and ALL your Grammar and Punctuation errors are horrendous, to the point of OFFENDING anyone trying to merely READ your posts. And I won't address here your overuse of LARGE and HUGE Font size.

And I am NOT the ONLY one to offer negative comments on your STYLE of posting. I point out your errors and you get ALL PISSED and throw out insults by calling me Red Pen. At least you acknowledge that I am a professor. I care about:

a) good discourse,
bI how to express ideas lucidly and coherently,
c) how to support an idea with ACTUAL evidence, and
d) how to make cogent points to argue a specific idea or larger issue.
e) Most importantly, I try to listen and read to understand and get a better understanding of the world. I am NOT so blind or myopic to avoid acknowledging good arguments or ideas that I may not agree with INITIALLY.

and FYI:
In literary criticism, stream of consciousness is a narrative mode or method that attempts "to depict the multitudinous thoughts and feelings which pass through the mind" of a narrator.[1] It is usually in the form of an interior monologue which is disjointed or has irregular punctuation.[2]
