A U.S. crew member who went missing when an F-15E fighter jet was shot down over a remote area of Iran was rescued by U.S. forces early Sunday morning local time, multiple U.S. officials told CBS News. The jet's pilot was rescued Friday.

"WE GOT HIM!" President Trump confirmed in a Truth Social post. "My fellow Americans, over the past several hours, the United States Military pulled off one of the most daring Search and Rescue Operations in U.S. History, for one of our incredible Crew Member Officers, who also happens to be a highly respected Colonel, and who I am thrilled to let you know is now SAFE and SOUND!"

The president said that the rescued officer had "sustained injuries, but he will be just fine."

Of the rescue operation, the president said that "at my direction, the U.S. Military sent dozens of aircraft, armed with the most lethal weapons in the World, to retrieve him."

U.S. officials had previously told CBS News the jet was carrying a two-person crew when it was downed by Iranian forces Friday.

Iranian Revolutionary Guards took credit for the strike, alleging the jet was brought down in southwestern Iran Friday morning. Photos of debris that Iranian media said showed the wreckage of the downed U.S. fighter jet appeared consistent with an American F-15, two weapons experts told CBS News.

The pilot of the F-15E had safely ejected and was rescued by two military helicopters, U.S. officials earlier said, but the second crew member, a weapons system officer, had remained missing.

Let's get back on Topic. Both Iran and Trump have walked back from the NEXT level of conflict, that likely would cause many unneeded deaths and damage to Iran and terribly impact its people. It is an answer to my prayers (and one that I specifically stated, as I lead the prayer before the meal where I help serve food to the poor and needy folks in my community).

And thanks to the Leaders of Pakistan and others, who mediated this peace, albeit temporary.

There's actually a bit of nuance to add here.

Since 1974, all international oil sales have settled in U.S. dollars, per the agreement between Nixon and the Saudis. This is known as the petrodollar, and it means that nations like Japan which need to import oil, have to sell cheap goods to the U.S. in order to raise U.S. dollar to buy oil with. Contrary to isolationist propaganda, countries don't sell their goods dirt cheap because they love to abuse the American worker. They sell them cheap because they're desperate for dollars, because a modern economy can't function without oil.

Iran has been selling oil to China in Yuan for a while now, a significant leakage to the petrodollar system. Trump would love to plug that leak.

The original agreement between Nixon and the Saudis expired two years ago and was NOT renewed. However, the Saudis have continued selling oil in in dollars only, tacitly continuing the petrodollar arrangement without a formal agreement to do so. During Trump's war and the Iranian blockade, however, the Saudis for the first time sold a few shipments of oil to the Europeans for Euros. Another leak in the petrodollar system. Iraq, meanwhile, joined Iran by selling some oil in Yuan. Another leak. The Iranians, meanwhile, have sold oil to India denominated in bitcoin, another leak.

The leaks are piling up, and they threaten to become a torrent. That is why Trump is blockading the Straits. He wants no oil to leave the Persian Gulf denominated in anything other than dollars. It's an opportunity to stop the leakage to Yuan, and to the Euro, and to bitcoin. I don't think it will succeed in the long run, but it might for a little while.

This goes to show the economic idiocy at the heart of the MAGA movement. One of the main stated goals of MAGA is to reduce imports, especially manufactured imports, and to restore the importance of manufacturing in the American economy. Abolishing the petrodollar trade would actually be far more effective than tariffs in accomplishing that goal. Countries no longer desperate for dollars would gladly increase the prices of export goods. Fighting to preserve the petrodollar is probably the worst thing Trump could do in support of his promised goals. The left hand of MAGA doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
