Royce White, who played in three games of a singular NBA season more than 10 years ago, and former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom have both said they'll try to be drafted by the women's league next year and that, under the league's inclusionary approach, they should be eligible.
Kanter, who legally changed his name to include "Freedom" after becoming a U.S. citizen in 2021, said he'd reviewed the league's eligibility framework and should qualify under the "self-identification and inclusion" rules.
His declaration went viral Friday night and was quickly followed by a similar one from White, who told Fox News, "I identify as sometimes identifying as a woman for purposes of… professional basketball."
CRUCIAL QUOTE
"If simply declaring who you are is all that's required, then I meet every single requirement necessary to compete in the WNBA," Kanter said.

Sophie Cunningham has gained LOTS of attention lately as a) an enforcer and protector of her teammate Caitlin Clark and b) for a vicious foul committed against her that likely drew much attention given the current atmosphere. And c) her good looks is also a factor. The pair are weighing in on a conversation sparked by Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham, who last month said she would not support transgender women playing in the league (...)
Key background
The current push to solidify the eligibility requirements comes after Cunningham who has been described as "MAGA Barbie" online, last month said she wants to "protect women's sports" and doesn't think people born male should be allowed into the league. Her remarks have since triggered small rallies both supporting and opposing her at WNBA games
"I think the league is taking care of that," Cunningham said, per ESPN. "This has nothing to do with race. Last year, I did the same thing and I got kicked out. And I deserved to be kicked out. There's no reason even to play that card."

Kelly Krauskopf has come out in defense of Stephanie White, with the team president offering their full support to the Indiana Fever head coach.
On Tuesday, the Fever produced a convincing performance to beat the New York Liberty 106-92, a game in which Caitlin Clark starred for Indiana with a 22-point, 10-assist double-double. However, the game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse was marred before tip-off, as Fever fans booed White when she was introduced, likely a backlash to the Indiana head coach's decision not to call out the Chicago Sky's DiJonai Carrington for a recent reckless foul on Sophie Cunningham.
Prior to the game against New York, White launched a blistering attack upon her critics, who have called for her to be fired, telling them they will not divide her team with their narratives. "We are united. We are connected. We will not be divided," said White, who was also defended post-game by Clark.

August 10th, 2026
Over the weekend on a nationally televised women's basketball game, Indiana Fever basketball player Sophie Cunningham was brutally whacked in the face going up for a layup after she became controversial for wanting to keep women's basketball limited to women. Chicago Sky played DiJonai Carrington was ejected from the game. She then rushed into the locker room and blamed "white privilege" for the ejection.
Sports Illustrated posted this outrageous headline online: “Sophie Cunningham got a bitter taste of karma after drawing flagrant foul in Fever-Sky.” It was revised: Sophie Cunningham's Enforcer Role Gets Reversed Onto Her With Hard Foul in Fever-Sky." Clay Travis said "Sports media is broken. It’s way more left wing than political media."
MRC Video content creators Brittany Hughes and Nick Kangadis joined the show for some cultural analysis. The WNBA can't seem to define what a woman is, just like Ketanji Brown Jackson struggled with it. Fever Coach Stephanie White went Full Ketanji in not being a scientist when it came to men in women’s sports.”
Either, she's just trying to stick to playing basketball -- or she's failing to make a statement about the makeup of her league. Fox’s Dana Perino said Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark are like, look, we're just trying to play basketball here. We're not trying to get involved in politics. They're not saying trans kids don't belong....What they're saying here is that girls sports should be protected for girls who can then hopefully grow up and be like us.”
There's a lot of wokeness in the WNBA. Seattle Storm co-owner Celeste Keaton allegedly left two teens in tears after crossing the court to curse out the 16-year-olds calling them 'F***ing insane,' and telling them to stop pulling this (S***). Minnesota Lynx Coach Cheryl Reeve wore a "Trans Kids Belong" shirt, and Golden State Valkyries forward Gabby Williams said she "would welcome" biological men on the WNBA courts.
The leftists have decried recent "stunts" about the WNBA's makeup. Enes Kanter and Royce White made noises about making themselves available for the WNBA Draft.
Clay Travis pledged $10 million August 3 for the WNBA to put their defending champion Las Vegas Aces up against a boys’ high school basketball team of his choosing, with the apparent intent of showcasing the imbalance of biological males competing in women’s sports. Jana Shortal, an anchor of Twin Cities NBC affiliate KARE 11, sneered that Travis “thinks it is so impossible for any group of women — let alone the best in the game — that they could ever beat younger and more inexperienced boys.”

I think both of your points are very valid (above). What is the POINT of a MAN claiming to be a woman? When I first heard of this, I thought these persons were simply "crazy" as if they have a mental issue. I have seen little to change my view. Why WOULD a woman have ...(name it)...Adams apple, deep voice, over 6 ft 6 in. (height), beard, male gentalia....??Apatheist wrote: Fri Aug 14, 2026 7:49 am I've been asking this question for years - when someone identifies as a woman, what are they identifying as?
It has become clear though that most sports bodies, including the IOC, are now moving to a definition based on biology and not identification.

If the governing body of your sport wants to create weight limits, height limits, testosterone limits, or bone-density limits, that decision should be made entirely from the point of view of what makes sense in that particular sport. I've seen butchy women playing on a mostly-male rugby team and taking the same beating the men took, without complaint. On the other hand, should someone eight feet tall who just had his balls cut off yesterday be allowed to join a women's basketball team? I don't know. My only answer is, let the governing body of that league make the decision without interference from anyone who isn't involved.

Biologically, none of it matters. If you are contributing ova to the evolution of the species, you are a woman. If you are contributing sperm, you are a man. Full stop. If you contribute neither, then you're irrelevant (biologically speaking).

https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/india ... p_catchallThe TV and streaming ratings for Game 1 of the WNBA Finals between the Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries were released on Wednesday, and the results were impressive.
The game drew 2.1 million viewers across NBC and Peacock, which made it the most-watched WNBA Finals Game 1 ever. It also marked an 11% increase from last year's WNBA Finals, which was between the Las Vegas Aces and the Phoenix Mercury.
As much of a win as this year's Finals Game 1 ratings is (and it is undoubtedly a win), it still comes up short to what the Indiana Fever produced earlier in the postseason.
Game 1 of the Fever and Aces' first-round series drew 2.11 million viewers on ABC, which means it barely edged out Game 1 of the WNBA Finals.
Yet, postseason opening game barely cracked the top ten for the most-watched WNBA games this season.
It took the No. 10 spot, which means that Game 1 of the WNBA Finals fell outside of the top 10. As for the nine most-watched games above it? Eight of them included the Fever, which Outkick's Dan Zaksheske indicated with an X post on Wednesday.
