For anyone planning to watch the eclipse on August 12th, PLEASE REMEMBER:
Do not look directly at the sun unless you are using approved eclipse glasses. Normal sunglasses are NOT sufficient.
NEVER EVER look at the sun via a telescope or binoculars, unless you are using an approved solar filter. IT WILL BE THE LAST THING YOU SEE.
I know it's dramatic, but you WILL go blind, permanently, if you do not take proper precautions.
It's safer to project the image onto white card and watch it on that.

During a recent Partial Eclipse in the Eastern US, I used pin hole "cameras" using two paper plates, with a pin hole in ONE and the other was where the image focuses. That worked well. I made several, some using aluminum foil (for a "cleaner" pin hole); the one without Al worked well, too.

I also got special viewing glasses (plastic film and NOT actual glass) and that was DRAMATIC...! I Got them at a local Library, as Amazon sold out a week or so before. SUGGESTION: Get your glasses NOW, or you may not get them in time.

And, as Apathiest posted, DO not look directly at the Sun during the Eclipse without proper eye protection or viewing glasses.

This is inappropriate. You need to apply a sense filter sometimes. This could be seen as making light of it - this issue is VERY SERIOUS. You could blind someone. You don't need to joke every time.
