If all the dollars that are dormant around the world suddenly returned to the USA the dollar would significantly weaken. Thankfully, the dollar checks more boxes more than any other option. The US is always releasing reports and mountains of data. China, not so much. Also, our legal system. China, not so much.

Trump wished he had the same sort of legal system as China.

The US attack on Iran has gone on long enough. Trump is NOT successful, outside setting back their nuclear program.

Also:
Release of some information is fine, once in a while, but I am tired of the daily changes with NO overall change. This is part of the Trump "personality" of constant upheaval and constant news stream. My wife said she could take Trump for two years and after that he gets "on her nerves." I agree, and we are not at the two year mark, YET.

Regarding Iran:

1) It is difficult to know who is really in charge, since Trump took out the Iranian Leadership early on.

2) Their Iranian negotiators are playing games, and NOT serious about seeking peace.

3) Iran is hoping the pressure of the November mid-term elections will PRESSURE Trump into a bad deal.

4) The US is hoping the blockade of Iranian trade will cause Iran to capitulate; how did that work in Cuba?

5) It seems to me that Trump hoped that the US bombing would cause Iran to undergo a regime change by the people revolting and some of the Iranian inner circle would take out whatever Leaders were left. Who is LEFT?

AND Did the Iranian population revolt? NO, they merely back their nation and its leaders at a time of conflict.

6) Israel convinced Trump to bomb the nuclear sites, kill the leaders, and launch a wider attack.

7) I think the Iranian nuclear program suffered major setbacks, but, without a complete regime change, this war is basically POINTLESS in the long term as far as achieving US Goals. Iran's leaders are still determined to build an atomic bomb.

I made the point early on that the Judeo-American assassination of virtually all senior Iranian leaders was a net benefit to Iran.

It reminds me very much of the Stalinist purges of the Red Army before WWII. Those purges, while very disruptive to the Red Army at the time, were in the long run a benefit. It meant that the average Russian general in WWII was a generation younger than his opponent -- more youthful, more vigorous, more willing to experiment, to trust new technologies and new tactics. Opinions vary, of course, but many military historians cite the Stalinist purges as a major reason why Russia emerged from WWII not only victorious, but energetically victorious.

In Iran, Israel and the U.S. killed off not only virtually the entire senior leadership, but most of the next generation of leadership as well. The average Iranian general of today is not one, but two generations younger than his opponent. The IRGC is being run by 35-year olds. These guys didn't grow up playing tabletop war games, they grew up playing Call of Duty. The new drone battlefield of today is perfectly natural to them. Furthermore, they have no memory of the Revolution, no ideological debates in the back of their mind. The Iran of the Ayatollahs is the only Iran they have ever known, a simple fact without debate. This is simply a war for survival, and one they've been rehearsing as far as they can remember.

Before Pearl Harbor the USA submarines would conduct fleet war games. Any captain that got ‘sunk’ was removed. So, we the started with a service full of risk averse captains. When the service got ride of all those and fixed the torpedoes the submarine war was successful.

If the torpedoes didn't work, I don't blame them for being cautious...

I agree.
My generation is also standing ready if we get attacked by aliens who move sideways in formation, then descend one row at a time; or if a giant gorilla runs off with our women and starts throwing barrels at us when we chase them up slopes.

Before the war they didn’t know the torpedoes were bad. They were not tested to any degree due to the money restraints during Great Depression.

How good were US Torpedos before WWII?

Summary, from AI
US torpedoes before World War II had significant limitations and challenges.

Development Timeline

The US Navy produced several torpedo designs in the 1930s, notably the Mark 14, which was developed from earlier Bliss-Leavitt designs.
The Mark 14 was intended to be a reliable weapon but faced issues during its early deployment in the war.
Performance Issues

Early tests revealed that the Mark 14 torpedo had reliability problems, including issues with its magnetic influence exploder, which often failed to detonate.
Additionally, the torpedoes were reported to run deeper than intended, missing targets.
Comparative Effectiveness

Compared to other nations' torpedoes, US designs were initially less effective, particularly in terms of reliability and accuracy.
Despite these shortcomings, the Mark 14 eventually became a mainstay for the US Navy, remaining in service for decades.
and more specifically, what about US torpedos used by US Submarine boats? (also from AI Summary):
US torpedoes used by American submarines before World War II had significant limitations and issues.

Early Development and Issues

The U.S. Navy's torpedo development began in the late 19th century, with early models facing reliability problems.
By the onset of World War II, many torpedoes had been tested extensively but still suffered from performance issues, including faulty detonators and erratic behavior in water.
Types of Torpedoes

The primary torpedoes used included the Mark 10 and Mark 14. The Mark 14, in particular, was plagued by issues such as a tendency to run too deep, which made it ineffective against enemy ships.
Operational Impact

These shortcomings led to a frustrating experience for submarine crews, as many torpedoes failed to detonate or missed their targets entirely.
Despite these challenges, U.S. submarines still managed to achieve notable successes, but the effectiveness of their torpedoes was a significant concern throughout the early years of the war.
I think HitRed and I are in agreement here.

Unauthorized History does a great job of covering the Pacific War. Endless videos.

This is a brutal video.

Thank you. I wasn't aware of this...they tended to leave that sort of thing out of the war films.

When I was a kid I got to go up and visit a company owned by a German U-boat commander. Never imagined a German U-boat commander would be in Texas. In his office he had all the medals and stacks of small maybe 2 x 3 photos taken on and in his u-boat. All black and white photos. Most showed ships sinking or meeting other u-boats in the ocean.
