A recruit jumped into my game, so I just asked him if he wanted a mentor. He was only too happy.Incandenza wrote:I would definitely be willing to provide some helpful guidance, but like wicked (and others) have mentioned, I'd rather not go stalking people. Besides, the new recruit that seeks out such a program will be far more willing to learn than someone who all of a sudden sees some stranger PMing them and posting in game chat bossing them around...
Perhaps if this ever gets real following, there can be a link on the instructions page, sort of a 'if you're interested in receiving tips and tricks from a wily veteran, click here to join the Adopt-A-Recruit Program' thing.
Heh, AARP. I made a funny.
I think the point being made is that no one wants to waste their time on someone who either doesn't want the help, doesn't need the help, or doesn't even plan on returning to the website... whereas if there was a mechanism in place for shunting ambitious new recruits to a centralized place where they could be paired off with a mentor of sorts, that's win-win for everyone.Itrade wrote:Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Whoa. Who-oah.
Nobody said anything about PMs. That is going too far. Just post in their games, give them advice (Not forcefully like "YO NOOB TAKE AUSTRALIA DO IT", just more like "If I were you I'd try for Australia, it's pretty easy to defend for a decent bonus"), and if they ask why you're helping them you link them here, but if they ask you to stop you just do and find a new recruit.
