Cure the Deadbeat Problem!

The problem of deadbeats is a serious plague to this site, obviously. There needs to be a way to fix this. I have few ideas to fix this, as obviously the rest of the site does, but what about this? If anyone misses their very first turn of the game, they should be booted. I can understand the 3 missed turns rule, but if a guy, or gal, misses their first turn, they likely will miss the next 2 and waste 2 days in the process. I suggest automatic disqualification for a person who misses their very first turn for starters. Also, i think this forum should have a seperate section for members to point out the chronic deadbeats. Get these inconsiderate assholes out of this site and you will make it much better!!!! I say let moderators or the webmaster use their better judgement in these cases (better judgement not meaning let a guy deadbeat 40+ games ala bolle85). more senior members may have better ideas as i am just a noob to this site, but come on! This has to be the biggest plague to an otherwise great world conquest gaming site.

They are a problem. however i dont feel your idea would help. The problem dead beats casue is they destroy games with other new recruits who COULD grow to be potential players. I think the best way to stop deadbeats ruining the young hopefuls would be to NOT let them play against each other.

however i still dont see this as a potential solution

OH and any suggestions you wanna make should go through the suggestions and bug report forum that way

Also, I've missed a turn from time to time because I either go out of town or end up getting swamped with work.

This fix has been suggested, and shot down by more experienced players than I.

Ok guys, let me re-emphasize. I understand the miss 3 turns before booted rule, it makes sense. Most people are not glued to their computers. However, if you missed your first turn, you have either: 1.) joined or created the game with no intention of ever taking a turn, or 2.) joined a game knowing you probably won't be able to take your first or more turns due to some prior obligation, or 3.) joined the game fully intent on taking all your turns but some bullshit came up preventing you from taking your first turn. Item number three is a legitimate concern, numbers 1 and 2 are not. If the site had the resources, a system could be set up to help those who fall under number 3, but i doubt thats the case. However, i bet the vast majority of cases fall under numbers 1 and 2. Although a few would suffer, it would benefit the common good of those on this site. The purposeful deadbeaters would obviously respond by taking their first turn and no more. This is why i proposed having a section of the forum specifically for chronic deadbeaters. Implementing these 2 policies i have given would no doubt help out immensely towards this problem. I ask the powers that be to give this serious consideration. I also ask for the support of CC veterans to offer more ideas or even modify my proposals. This would aid immensely to a better gaming experience to the members who actually want to play rather than f*ck around and ruin it for others because of some fucked up need to get their jollies by pissing off others. There is no reason that these inconsiderate fucks should be able to use this site to get off on that kind of shit man.

to clear up any missed understanding, if you take your first turn, you qualify to miss up to 3 turns before being disqualified.

for missing the first turn, i would leave it up to the powers that be to decide whether points are lost, but as always 3 missed turns should result in losing points. I am only suggesting a change in the rules, but, like i said before, i am a noob and not fully knowledgeable in such things.

This is why you make the separate section of the forum specifically for those who deadbeat on purpose. You would use this section to report the GIANT DOUCHES who would abuse this as most who would abuse this would be the CHRONIC DOUCHEBAGS, err, i mean DEADBEATS. Obviously, non-chronic deadbeats would abuse this. I have no solution to cure this, i admit it. However, others who have much more experience than my less than 10 games could maybe help with something. even if not, it would cure much of the already existing problems with the site, even if some could escape these policies. Just because it doesn't fix EVERYTHING, doesn't mean its a bad idea.

Here's what I don't understand...Why are you complaining about deadbeats so much? I've played over 200 games and yes, I've had some deadbeats in them, but guess what? It just gave me that much easier of a chance to win the game in the end. I can't tell you how many times I've used a deadbeat as a shield to gain the upper hand. Sometimes it works out, sometimes not, but at least a couple of my wins come from that.

If you hate deadbeats so much, use your premium membership to set up private games with players that you know. Even better yet, go join some of the tournaments that are being run by responsible individuals. Yes, some tournaments are left to rot and are abandoned, but I can think of plenty that aren't, namely those run by players such as Kahless, Forza AZ and myself even, along with several others. Join the tournaments and you hardly ever have a problem with deadbeats.

Play some 2 player games, those rarely have deadbeats. Browse the Call-outs forum for some games that aren't realtime. I know they are there. Heck, find yourself a decent teammate and then who cares if the player deadbeats on the other team. Easy points for you and your teammate.

In the end I don't understand why anyone on this site that has a premium membership should be complaining. If you have to wait two days between turns it isn't that big of a deal, join a couple more games and it will make up the difference without burdening you down too much. If you don't have premium, that's a different story, then perhaps you can have a complaint.

I've been in up to 45 games at once and never had to worry about going more than 12 hours without a turn, right now I'm in something like 15 and I still don't have a problem and there are deadbeats in two of them. Half of the 6 player games on this site go over 24 hours before your next turn anyways due to how many players have to take their turns. It's really not that different.

If you have premium, just join another game without deadbeats, or be quiet.

Noobie here. I am 1 day old and already tired of deadbeats.

One solution would be to make a new 8-hour-per-turn version of the game. When joining or starting a game, the player could choose between games with 24 hour turns or 8 hour turns. Maybe name the new kind "Accelerated Game," or something like that.

I'm pretty sure the amount of computer coding would be quite minimal to enable this feature.

If you only had 8 hours to take a turn you couldn't go to sleep and not miss a turn. That doesn't make any sense.

The creators of the site are working on ideas to fix it. If you've only been on the site for one day I highly doubt you've had any experience worth speaking of that qualifies you to talk about the deadbeats yet.

The whole POINT of this site is to create a gaming experience that does not REQUIRE you to spend all day checking to see if you have turns to take. I personally like that myself. I may spend more than a couple minutes a day, but at times when I cut back my game load it is nice to only have to spend 15 minutes a day doing my thing.

I am premium and never notice when someone deadbeats, because I've only got 80+ games going

Hell, I don't remember which turns I've taken, so who cares if someone deadbeats..
Only time I really would care is if I'm close to finishing a game, and they miss a turn.
And, even then, it's a very small thought in my mind!

As a (currently) non-sub I have to say that deadbeats are a real pain.

They clearly have no fun in their lives and thus want to stop other peoples enjoyment.

Anything that can be done to remove deadbeats from games is a plus in my book and would encourage me to subscribe.

I would suggest that new subs with less than 10 completed games have a flag set which removes them from games after one missed turn. Thus if a newbie misses a turn they are out but the 3 turn rule counts for those with over 10 completed games.

Setting a newbie flag where missing just one turn means out would stop those pesky blighters who sign up join 4 games and are never seen again.

I know this would mean a software re-write and may be difficult to impliment but given the size of the problem I feel it would be a worthwhile task.

I play on a chess website and we have the same problem so I basically wont play new subs..........Like me on here!!

Good point about 8-hours-per-turn getting in the way of sleep. I should have said 12 hours. And regarding your point that the whole point of this site is to not stress over whether or not you're missing your turn, I understand what you mean, however:

1) those who enjoy that pace would select 24-hours-per-turn, while
2) those who enjoy a faster pace would select 12-hours-per-turn.

Neither would get in the other's way. Peaceful coexistence. Everyone wins. Just as there are 4 different game styles (standard, assassin, etc.) and 30 different maps to choose from, there could be two turn-speeds to choose from. I don't think my idea is very radical, given all the other choices that are already available to players when they sign up for a game.

I agree with the other sentiment, too, which is that deadbeats can be avoided by choosing your partners carefully or going Premium. I guess, in the grand scheme of things, it's not a big problem at all. But if I were going to solve it, I would use my method.

Your method isn't all that new to this site. It has been discussed many times, and is currently on the to-do list for lackattack. I fully expect it will be implemented with the next update. That's my opinion though.

In the end it just boils down to lots of players on this site are tired of hearing everyone else who has only played in 20-25 games complain about deadbeats. It's part of the site, it's not that big of a deal.
