Why is a player rewarded for missing a turn? They are given the armies they would have gotten if they would have taken their turn. It seems to me that it is your own fault if you miss your turn. I'm just wondering why this is the way it is? What's the justification?

Some players use it as strategy which seems a bit underhanded to me. Thanks.
Players can only use this as a stratagy if the other players are shortsighted. The player that missed a turn get no extra strength - he may even lose out on a card manking himself weaker.
In freestyle games a person can wait till 1 minute left, log in take their turn, then their opposition would miss a turn, losing their armies unfairly.

keeps players coming back tto the game. if they miss a turn, the game is not lost, and it encourages them to keep playing rather than deadbeat outright.

but this is due to freestyle, not due to the armies for missing turns rule.
i may be right in saying that "no extra armies for missed turns" is on lackattack's to-do list.

I think what he's saying is that if there was no doubled armies the armies would be wasted due to a tactic that is generally considered cheap.
You are right that generally speaking getting double your armies for missing a turn doesn't make you stronger, in addition you miss out on a card, so in a way you could say it makes you weaker, but not as weak as you should have been for missing a turn. I agree it is a flawed strategy, but it is still being used and it only seems to prolong the game.
It also makes sense that it could prevent cheap players from deadbeating after a bad start. I have to say that I don't think most people do this, if I missed a turn (which I never have) I would tell everyone playing that I was sorry and would definately not expect to get armies from my missed turn. Also, most people here aren't deadbeaters, and if this rule wasn't the case I don't think most people would miss two more turns to get out. I have witnessed many times myself and other players getting horrible drops/starts but they don't stop taking their turns.
I just really don't think this rule is justified. Has there ever been a poll to see what people think of this rule? I would genuinely like to see this rule removed and I am wondering if I am the minority?
believe it or not people miss turns because they have a life. real life situations can arise and i feel it would be unfair to put these people at more of a disadvantage that they would already get for missing a turn.
Of course I know that there are many good reasons for missing your turn, and that there are way more important things than this game.
In my opinion, if you miss a turn, for whatever reason, you should not be given the armies that you missed. This is one of the many hazards of life, unplanned things come up, we all deal with it. Losing out on your missed armies would be the least of your worries in the case of something more important than your turn coming up.
Out of curiosity I am going to start a poll to see where people stand.

Thanks again for the input.
ivoted to keep the missed turns rule but agree you have a good point here. if a player misses a turn (and therefore the armies) it is likely to be the least of their worries.
It is clear that things happen in life. Players missing a turn shouldn't be severely punished. But it is also clear that there are a situations where missing a turn is very good move. Abusers shouldn't be rewarded.
So what's a solution?
I think - a player should get his units from missed turn, but a smaller number of them. For example, you missed a first turn and second round begins; you should get 3 units for actual round and 2 for missed turn.
Thoughts?

I like that idea Zem, it's better than the way it is now.
Although I still don't see the reasoning for giving armies for a missed turn. I think this is an easy black or white scenario. Either you take your turn and get your armies or you miss your turn and you don't, simple as that. Players aren't being punished for missing their turn, they are being rewarded for taking their turns.
