No Overlapping Freestyle Turns

Postby nascarfan38124 on Tue Aug 01, 2006 9:17 pm

i think that freestyle games need to be fixed up or mabye have another option put in.

i have played a couple games (that were not designed to be real time) but what happened is that i started my turn and halfway through befor i can fortify my opponent logged in and started his turn and then because i couldnot fortify in time he attacked me when i was open for attack. what i tried to do to salvage my turn by instantly ending and retreating to try to save my continent bonus. so this essentually ruined my turn which i could of won in that turn and could of (but didnt) change the tide in the game so as i am defeated on the verge of victory

i dont know if other people have had the same problem but because of this i no longer play in freestyle games

i know that making it another option is impractical but i believe that this is a major problem and needs to be changed

I understand that would probably be annoying but i use it to my advantage (if im the last player to take a turn i grab a continent and then as soon as someone else starts, i begin my turn to get bonuses)

simultaneous means that turns could go on at the same time.. its sort of the definition of the word.. how could you be fooled by that?

it doesnt say anyware on the site (that i can find) that the turns can be simultaneous and i am complaining that it is

Instructions wrote:Sequential games are slower but they mimic the sitting-around-a-table boardgame experience.

i know that they are not sequential games but i still thing you need the sitting-around-a-table experience because if some one can make their turn in the middle of my turn it ruins my turn

anyway i think this is an ugent problem and needs to be fixed (and because i didnt read the official form post until afterwards) i rate it as 5 for needs to be changed now

look freestyle is that type of game ........look at my past games , when i first started i signed up for about 20 of them...........then i realized what they were and i didnt like them ...................now as you scroll down my list of games you see one here and there and mostly none lol ......... just play sequintal games .....why are you complaininig about freestyle needing fixed when there are sequintial games ...thats pretty much freestyle being fixed .......................im having trouble understanding what your problem is ...im with you about freestyle games (as for not prefering them), but there is an option there for you .......am i missing something your saying ,maybe your saying that the directions should be clearer.......and as far as your reference to realtime , that is a live game with people present and the goal is to finish the game in one sitting(2-3hours) .....it can be played with any options.........I think maybe you should try to join a sequintal realtime game and you will get what your looking for (you can find them under callouts from time to time)

im glad i can make you happy but the problem is that i like the concept of frestyle except for the that part

i now only play sequential games but if you play with six people then the game tends to take a long time and you have to wait a couple days befor you can make your turn again and that is the problem i see with sequential games

my suggestion is that i think that there should be no simultaneous turns because it makes the game way more confusing that it needs to be and what i should probably do is try to set up some real time games in sequential because i dont see this being fixed any time in the near future

The beauty (or the ugliness) of Freestyle games is that you may take your turn at any given time in the 24 hour period. If it over laps with someone elses turn, you've got to take that into account. Maybe you should wait a few hours and start your next turn later, so that doesn't happen. Freestyle games need to be looked at with a slightly different strategy than Standard Sequential games.

Yeah, I agree that its not clear at first that turns can be taken simulataneously....however I definitely do not think it shoudl be changed. To me thats the entire fun of freestyle games...you're trying to capture and continent or take someone out but you don't know if that other player is watching you, waiting to cash a set and mess everything up. Or you're the guy watching and waiting for the perfect moment. It can be havoc, but its a ton of fun. Adds intensity like you can't get in any other risk game. Two people can both desperately be attacking trying to knock another player out to get his cards. Or better yet, if two people are left in the game they can each be attacking the other person across the same border. If you both have large forces and you know your odds are better attacking then defending this can lead to some fun results.

Anyway, its different and fun and changing it just be priority -5. If you don't like this style play sequential games only. If that's too slow for you, get premium so you don't have to worry about speed.

Im for not changing the settings but if anything needs to be changed about freestyle it should be that the person who took his/her turn last should not be allowed to start his/her turn until after someone else has ended there turn, because otherwise they could sort of double turn.

I think that in freestyle games, if you click "Begin turn" button, nobody else should be able to begin their turn until you have finished, that way there will not be any simultaneous destruction of doom, but it will be freestyle nevertheless.

And what happens if two people show up with say 10 minutes left in the round. One person is quick enough to begin their turn before the other, and takes the full 10 minutes to keep that person from playing. It would ruin the freestyle idea of playing whenever you want in the 24 hours.

yea that is true but one way to fix it (but might be heavy on the programming side) is to: say the first person began his turn but then the second player trys to begin his turn but he cannot and say that there is 10 min. left on the clock well then they will be brought to a screen that says that they can make their turn 10 min. after the other ends his turn regardless of what the timer is at.

the only problem with this is that some people make turns in thier 5 min. coffee breaks and this rule will not allow but if it is made an option then they can chose to avoid it

It's completely unnecessary as an option. If you don't want the ability for simultaneous turns you'll have to play sequential games.

I would consider making it an option to have the game locked when you take a freestyle move. Call it semi-freestyle or something like that. However it appears to be such a low priority I'll file this under pending.
