Hi all,

benny profane and I are working on this map. We're both from NYC. This is the preliminary stage as you can see. Just the general outline and the possible army circle positions. We're planning on incorporating the subway system into this map. We are dedicated to making this map. We've researched the other threads and seen the complaints.

This map attempts to do justice to the vastness of the city. We want this to be as authentic as possible without sacrificing playablility.

Thanks in advance for feedback.

So far, looks pretty good and from the post you seem very dedicated. I have one problem before you start on other things....

It has no borders drawn..

the colors are really nice though.

yeah...we kinda just wanted to throw up what we had, and basically stake a claim. we've got the borders sketched out, and will be posting them soon. the army circles are just to give an immediate idea of how many territories we have in mind.

NYC is a fantastic idea for a map, and it has been started several times in the past. I'd suggest you do a quick search for the past threads so you can do some advance-troubleshooting and avoid the problems the other maps have had.

And you should check out the How To Make A Map thread and post the required info if you want to be taken seriously.

True indeed. It's a placeholder. We're still working on the key and trying to decide how the train system should work. Even what's here still needs work. We really just wanted to get something posted asap since we saw a recent thread about the NYC map and wanted to stake a claim. We'll put more up once we're ready.

As for the other threads, We've read them.

cowshrptrn's had king kong in it and it got panned the minute it got posted and didn't value manhattan enough.

seamusmacdeath's included jersey and didn't value mahattan enough and i think he was still planning on getting photoshop when he left off.

yourmomsaccount's was more a tri-state area map rather than a NYC map.

KingWaffles was working off the same image from wikipedia as cowshrptrn) his last post regarding this map was

http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... ht=#429806

was in May and his last post ever was also in May as was his last game. And he included Jersey.

D.IsleRealBrown had also posted that same map from wikipedia... I think he was just suggesting someone make it off of that layout.

I hope this helps understand where we're coming from.

My bad! Clearly I'm the one not doing my research!

NYC is one of the must-do map ideas, and it will have many fans and just as many critics... kinda like the Yankees. I think that as such the previous attempts just weren't up to the challenge. I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Even being from suburban Boston, I'd really like to see this map! :) I like the idea of the subway system....though I don't like Rail USA at all....you said you were working on incorporating the subway, but if it's problematic, please don't drop the whole map.....NYC would be sweet. :)

Hi all. We just finished up the borders. For now the territories without army circles are impassable parks.

Another update to come in the next week hopefully.

and just to clarify, the southernmost section of queens (orange), with all the little islands, is all one territory (probably "JFK")...not a park.
next up, bridges! and even a ferry!
(sorry, no tunnels)

now u really have my interest. this map looks to have a lot of potential.

but there is something troubling me. i know this image is merely a placeholder of sorts but that long salmon pinkish continent is going to be too tight for tert names.

you mean manhattan? most of those names will be able to fit to the left of the army circles, and many may end up being abbreviations on the map (for example: L.E.S. = Lower East Side).

Phil1580, what is it specifically about Rail USA that you don't like?

Gotta be honest, I've never actually played Rail USA....but looks too linear to me. I suppose I should give it a whirl before I decide I don't like it though....I'm that guy who says "I don't like(whatever food)" without ever trying it....just by the look. :P I'll try it, I promise.

HAHAHAHA, thats hilarious. snap and i were talking about it, and trying to figure out what you didn't like and how it would bear on the nyc subway.
he thought it was the aesthetics, i thought it was the shared borders.
guess he was closer to being right.
don't worry, i won't make you play RAIL USA!

Hi all,

We've done another update. Progress is being made!

Added are the bridges, ferry, and the impassable territories. Benny and I are working on Sunday to get the train system together and after that we should have our legend ready and for discussion to begin.

Thanks for all your patience guys!

wow, keep this up, the only thing i see is that the small island in the middle of the map looks sorta like the males lower parts if you know what i mean.

yeah, not bad unit_2!
we figured it may be better to have mini bonuses within each continent (excluding staten island), pretty much in the same way world 2.1 does it.
brooklyn and manhattan look slightly different in our sketches, but you obviously saw what we were aiming for in the bronx and queens.

we'd also like to get some feedback on randall's island (the male genitalia unit_2 mentioned, it is located between manhattan, queens, and the bronx).
it is a terit that controls the triborough bridge, is not necessary for any continent bonuses, and would probably start neutral.

Make it a +1 bonus for holding it, and making it neutral would be a good idea.

i'd like to see some names on this one real quick please.

And is there any chances of dividing Manhattan up somehow along more intertesting disivions that would includes east and west of Broadway, the UN, Chinatown, Museum precinct, Gennwich Village, maybe even the Empire State and (former) World Trade Centre precinct, Time Square, the Battery, Tribeca

I've been to Manhattan and walked the streets, and it's a very interesting place indeed. Something along these lines, although 5th Avenue seems to be a delineator in this map, although that's OK.
