Otto - this is sweet - Like it a lot...EvilOtto wrote:I agree you should use graphics, but you still need to simplify. You have just two rules: 1) you need four-in-a-row to get a bonus. 2) two bonuses cannot share more than one territory.KEYOGI wrote:I hate the new Bonus Guide with a passion, I just thought I'd offer something new to try and clear up the confusion. The saying goes that "a picture is worth a thousand words" and I tend to think that theory worked well for the Bonus Guide.
I had something like this in mind:
It is important that you show examples of how NOT to get a bonus.
Maybe someone can improve on this further?

I agree, the only special case is when they are all on the same line, so the bottom section should show a 5-in-a-row, 6-in-a-row and a 7-in-a-row.sully800 wrote:Otto's bonus key is great, but I would include an illustration of 7 in a row to show that it receives a bonus of +4. Perhaps its not necessary, but I think it would clear up any final confusion.
Players will be acquiring territory over time, I don't think they will jump from a single 4-in-a-row to a 5x5 block in a single turn. So they'll see the bonuses build up from turn to turn. Maybe slightly different names for the continent groups? "Horizontal Conquer-4s", "Diagonal Conquer-4s", etc. so people can better match the bonus text to the board.KEYOGI wrote:My only concern is people getting a +14 or any other high bonus in the game and wondering what the hell is going on.
Well I won't try to change your mind except that this looks done to me assuming the XML works right.KEYOGI wrote:I'm going to stick this in Vacation for the time being. With two new abstract maps to play and some others in development, I'll let this sit for a while.
Maybe I'll come back to it in September.
I'm always here to fix the XML - I'm pretty damn sure it works right though!!Coleman wrote:Well I won't try to change your mind except that this looks done to me assuming the XML works right.KEYOGI wrote:I'm going to stick this in Vacation for the time being.
