I'm going to pick up my rifle and fight.
Those men next to you would have been in large numbers, and would have more training with their muskets. You would not be able to effectively stop them. Fighting really is a skilled labor, and you cannot very well take 1,000 men who operate artillery, give them muskets and expect them to stand a chance against 1,000 regular infantry.

Having said all that, I don't like waterloo either. You would have to play it 50 or 100 times just to get used to the connections.

Also, just thought of another one, Wales. It's original, but annoying.

Yes indeed!

However, I must just point out that your 'it is actually happening... Ha!!!!' implies a lack of belief in a previous statement of mine. I was almost gravely offended.

While I didn't report your post, my 'breaking the community guidelines' meter (newly installed in my Mod. Bunker) was pinging a touch.

Remember that imagined negativity is just as bad as implied negativity, which is as equally appalling as straight negativity..though I prefer not to dwell on the really hard stuff..since my conversion to being a 'wannabe moderator', I actually feel physically sick at the mere thought of the dark side.

There are a lot of maps I don't like that appeal to others.

I don't see any appeal for maps such as Poison Rome, Forbidden City, City Mogul, Supermax or Waterloo. (except for users who want to excel at one map and beat up on noobs. And people like me who suck at those maps)

Box maps make me angry (Madness, Chicago, Drug War) not because they are hard but because I don't like the look and gameplay of them.

Conquerman is just completely unnecessary.

Then there are the boring maps that aren't even fun to look at: Ardennes, Gazala, Peloponnesian, Rail USA, Rail Europe, Rail Australia.

But if I had to pick one map that I thought was 'worst' I guess I'd say Battle for Iraq since it fits into mostly all these categories. Blegh!

I'm not saying I do not appreciate all the hard work the mapmakers (especially the ones of these particular maps) have to go through to get the rigorous process over and done with, so they can get their maps published. Great job guys, I probably just have bad taste anyway ;)

I agree about the gameplay (not cause I don't get it—while I'm not an expert I do understand it), but mib created a graphical masterpiece on it. It's ridiculous how good that thing looks.

Bad maps: Conquerman, though it's a decent dubs map; Crossword—ohmygod; can't say I fancy USApoc too much, though I don't think I've played it too much; eum, can't think of too many more atm.

Battle for Iraq - I agree with .44, it looks amazing - it doesn't even really look like a map. I understand the gameplay too, I just never seem to win...

Chinese Checkers - One of the few maps I haven't played; opinions, anyone?

Draknor Level 1 - I used to hate this map but I'm starting to like it, it just takes a bit more thought than the average map.

Rail Maps - I like these if I'm in the right mood. I think Rail Australia is the best for gameplay, but Rail USA is more pleasing on the eye.

Conquer Man - This was one of my first victories, but a two-month game when I was freemium put me off for a long time. I joined another game the other day and I'm definitely not over it. I won't be playing it again in the near future.

Bad maps: Supermax, South America (does anyone actually play it?), Texan Wars, WWII Gazala.

And Waterloo - what on earth is going on there?! I don't get it, and I doubt I ever will.
Important Tournament Notice

The data for ALL of my tournaments has potentially been lost. I am working to recover it but as I am away on business all of this week, there will be some delay. Sincere apologies.

Maps I dislike playing

USA
USA Apoc
Fuedal
World 2.1
Great lakes
Draknor (worst)

world and great lakes are kind of the same. I don't think theres more skill in bigger maps like a lot of people do. I think its just more armies, more clicking, and a longer game. Playing world 2.1 just annoys me. Its the same as playing 3 games on classic.

So youre actually suggesting, that having more armies, more bonuses, more areas of attacks, more areas to fort, multiple more decisions to make, all directly affecting the outcome of the game doesnt mean more strategy...

What then is your definition of strategy....having very few options and picking the best one....but picking from more means less?

I understand where youre coming from, and believe me, many underestimate the map, and I think its because it does just appear to be a blow up of classic, but I assure you, I, and the many who play it often, some exclusively have learned otherwise, and essentially it comes down to scale, and percentages. Its size is geometrically bigger than many maps, it means that while your starting bonus is much bigger than other maps, its affect is often not similarly bigger. Usually, on a 1v1, player one gets 12, and player 2 gets 11....the dice then mean much more than these numbers, and more importantly, how they are used, where they are used, where they are forted, means much more than the numbers themselves. Many do become blowouts, but that is true of all maps...the difference here is, you have more options, more armies, and more time, to inch your way back from a bad round, or more importantly one bad roll...which is simply unrecoverable on a great many maps.

Really though, seeing is believing... only those that have played it enough come to realize this, and those that play it often, usually keep playing it. I honestly stumbled on world, simply because I liked playing it, and due to the fact that it does tend to work with my rather aggressive playing style anyways.

If nothing else, world at least gives you some time to have fun with it, even if you are losing, as opposed to a small map where you drop on one place every turn, and hope to get a good roll...often that place is predetermined, and you might as well be a computer playing, and might as well have flipped a coin to decide the outcome. That can happen on world too, just less often.

I posted earlier about one of my earliest games was a 6 man standard and 4 deadbeated. The other guy rolled over me with bonuses while i was trying to fight my way out of a wall of neutrals. That said, I probably don't like it because it seems too boring for singles especially sunny. Could be ok as a dubs or trips map.

Worst maps for me would be the Classic maps (on escalating). I work better on large, complex maps. I think it comes down to the person's interests. I don't think there's much strategy (in the classical sense of the term) on small map escalating games.

I can't believe we've gotten this far into the thread and no-one has mentioned the pigfuckery that is discworld... there's nothing wrong with the gameplay, per se (except for the fact that, in classic terms, Oz is right next to SA), but for some reason that map has it out for me.

And anyone that mentioned waterloo in this thread fails utterly.

I just don't seem to like maps with gameplay that stetvhes too far from the actual risk game.

Ie, one or two one way attack spaces are fine, but when it gets really deep into bombardments and all that crap, I can't stand it.

I like just nice, sleek and shiney regular maps. Like classic art =D

He meant stretches. And I disagree with him fully.

I agree Discworld was aptly put as a graphical pigfuckery. But it's a decent dubs map (hi hatch and neph!)

Dicsworld is awesome cause what its from, but yes as a map gameplay wise its ok to an extent
I enjoy the fact that its like a bunch of austrailas and south americas all surrounding a couple of asias
Its a colourblind nightmare which is why I've barely played it (first thought capitals where part of Unnamed)
so the graphic are screwed but i wouldn't want it changed
and yes nostalgia aside its awful

Fitz you think you can defeat me by overloading me with text. Ah, but I have a great plan to turn this against you. I will simply say, "I disagree", without reading all this. Then you will have to respond with 1,000 more words, and in this way you will eventually loose from exhaustion.

U.S. Senate

I only played it once, but I hated it. The bonus territory & border to value ratio is horrible, I think. Visually, it's probably one of the most bland maps that I've seen.
