explanation
This is your chance to honor your favorite Tournament Organizer! You can nominate tournaments that were completed in 2009.

From all the nominated tournaments we will put up a list of the Top 10 and set up a poll for all of you to vote for The Best Tournament of 2009.

The TOs of the first three tournaments will receive a Contest Achievement Medal. We will also throw the names of everybody that nominated a tournament in a hat and award a Contest Achievement Medal to the first one we fish out of the hat.

To nominate a tournament, please post the following:
  • > Name of the Tournament Organizer
    > Name of the Tournament
    > Link to the Tournament Forum Thread
    > Reason(s) why you nominate this tournament
As usual, there are a few rules:
  • > The tournament has to be completed in 2009
    > You have to provide a “valid” reason for your nomination (*see note)
    > You can nominate a maximum of 3 (three) tournaments
    > A tournament can be nominated more than once as long as the reason is distinct
    > You cannot nominate your own tournament
    > The tournament cannot be an abandoned or rescued tournament
*Note: A nominated tournament has to have something “special” that distinguishes it from other tournaments. A “valid” reason for nominating a tournament can be because it is or was:
  • > innovative
    > unique
    > very well run
    > challenging
    > well presented
    > really fun to play
    > all or some of the above
These are examples, there could be other reasons to nominate a tournament as long as they point out a positive quality (or qualities) with regards to the tournament itself and/or the organizer. Please try to give a specific example of why you think a tournament has a special quality (or qualities).

Tournaments with a “valid” nomination will be listed in the second post, with the name of the person(s) nominating it.

Nominations will be accepted until the new year GMT.

I nominate

Lindax
TLO II

Reasons: huge, massive, multi-dimensional, lot's of maps and settings, hard work to put all the things together. Really well done by 1 (!) man only. Woohoo!

And yes, it is pleasure to play there.

Wow, picking 3 tournaments out of all the ones that ran in 09 was tricky. But I managed to settle down on my favourite 3:

In no particular order:

TO: flexmaster33
Tournament: 2008 College Basketball Season
Linky: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 92&t=66381
Reasoning: Flex is one of the best organizers for keeping the tournament fun outside of the games. He writes weekly newsletters, calculates game scores, runs RPIs, you name it, he's got it. Just click on that link and look at the graphics he puts up for us. Not to mention that there were a total of 118 players in that tournament, and he kept everyone involved all the way to the playoffs. Easily my favourite "annual" tournament.
Dates Run: 12OCT2008-01MAY2009

TO: brandoncfi
Tournament: Map Quester 1
Linky: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 92&t=85476
Reasoning: After effectively running 4 (I think) successful Map Blasters in which players played 8-man escalating games on all the maps at the same time (quite a feat just creating the games), brandon stepped it up and gave us total control over the tournament. Every player had guidelines and rules to follow, and a scorecard to complete, but it was ultimately up to each individual to play the tournament how they wanted. Made it very enjoyable strategically and gave every player the same advantage: to always play on their home turf. I've waited for MQ2 ever since, but alas, no such luck.
Dates Run: 02MAY2009-23JUN2009

TO: amazzony
Tournament: GameZZone: Starcraft
Linky: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 92&t=75554
Reasoning: Another great tournament that had players involved outside of the games. Players really committed to the strategy of the tournament made it far, while those who weren't got easily weeded out early on. All of us in the finals had fun with the freestyle games, and trying to figure out who was in the lead and guess at each other's purchases. Even in the final set of games, the winner wasn't clear, and altogether an enjoyable tournament to be a part of.
Dates Run: 20JAN2009-11DEC2009

Altogether, I thought it was a great year for tournaments that ran. I had difficulty narrowing it down to my 3 favourites as there were probably 10 that I could have nominated. I do think that there is going to be a bias towards tournaments that ended later in the year as some people may not remember a tournament that ran back in May as they do one that just ended.

TO: Barterer2002
Name: Championship Series Austerlitz
Thread: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 90&t=99073
Reason: This tournament came out not long after Austerlitz was in Beta. There were some threads that bashed it quite hard, which did tend to cast the map in a negative light. After playing the games in this tournament, I realized that the gameplay was actually quite enjoyable. This map made me actually play a map I wouldn't have played otherwise.

TO: poptartpsycho18
Name: Best Movie Ever, CC Edition 3
Thread: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 90&t=94023
Reason: A massive tournament that an incredible amount of work went into organizing it. The multiple round and setting format that rewarded survival over winner-take-all made it especially enjoyable. The movie theme was what really set it apart as some players chose some of the more obscure movies to honor.

TO: Pander88uk
Name: The Conquer Club County Championship
Thread: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 0&t=100941
Reason: Fun tournament with a slightly different sports theme (cricket). Also, the mix of team games and the ability to mix and match teammates made it unique as well.

TO: poptartpsycho18
Name: Terminator Madness
Linky: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 92&t=56175
Reason: It was just super fun.... Not just cause I won it, but it had a variety of maps which made it challenging and playing against challenging players.

Thank you Dako, I'm flattered. However the tournament has to be completed in 2009 and I'm afraid that's not going to happen ;)

You can nominate it next year if we do this again....

TO: psychobkrazy
Name: Psycho B's Luxembourg's Assassin 2
Thread: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 90&t=97207
Reason: 3 man luxembourg assassin. Almost as luck based as ass doodle, but just enough strategy to make it enjoyable. A dangerous competition indeed.

TO: JohnnyRocket24
Name: JR's 3v3 Challenge 3
Thread: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 90&t=98893
Reason: When JR throws a tournament, the best players tend to come. This was a big deal in our clan thread, but all three of our teams were beaten in round 1. Some very competitive triples games did happen, and that's what happens when the best teams go head to head.

TO: jpcloet
Name: Vampires VS Werewolves: Europe
Thread: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 90&t=85806
Reason: This tournament had a cool twist where you were only eliminated if killed by a member of the opposite race, and nobody knew who was what so it was quite thrilling. Also aren't vampires popular now or something? I think that was jpcloet's doing.

TO: danervinsucks
Name: ~*^NCAA Football FBS Playoff
Thread: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 0&t=100106
Reason: This was the TO's first attempt, and he took an idea that so many of us would like to see happen in real life and made it work. I loved the format where four different games counted as the four quarters of a football match. Well run and fun, an awesome first attempt, though I think it's safe to say this is the only place anyone will see Houston winning the title!

Those are the only two nominations I have, thanks for putting this together Lx, great idea and great work as always!

TO: JoJo123
Tournament: New Medal Mania
Thread: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 0&t=100033
Reason: This was a great tournament that made me play with settings that I am not used to playing with. It also helped me earn my bronze manual medal. I hope she organizes another one of these tournaments. :)

My partner (DJ Teflon) and I made it to the finals of the LxDS: Pollice Verso tournament and lost 2-1. It was a great tourney with tons of quality doubles teams. Well set up, well coordinated, and most importantly, lots of fun. I nominate Lindax's LxDS: Pollice Verson tournament. Great job Lx.

I nominate:

Triples Champion:
Creator tyler197802198.
http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 92&t=74328

It was a tourney that put 3 random people on a team an let them come together to win an the one person that could do that an win the most team games won. It really made me find some great team players an to adapt to a lot of different personality's for one goal to win the game an ultimately the tourney..

I tend to like more complex tournaments. My three nominations this year are

1. TLO (the original). which I enjoyed the format of team play for dubs, trips quads as well as 1v1. Reminded me of Nate's old Band or Die tournaments but with more games etc. organizer Lindax
http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 92&t=75528

2. Survivor. An interesting concept by Mushin that was well run and well thought out.
http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... r#p2194391

3. Musical Chairs by keiths31. I don't normally like tournaments where you don't have to win to advance but this was an interesting concept.
http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 92&t=64707

(along with its successors)(Musical Chairs: European Tour http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 92&t=77399 , Musical Chairs North American City Tour http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 92&t=74363 , Musical Chairs USA tour http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 92&t=90000 , Musical Chairs AOR http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 92&t=93544 , Musical Chairs Battle of Britain http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... s#p2362120)

One week left for nominations.

Come on folk, I wanna see more tournaments!

I'll nominate one:

Name of the Tournament Organizer: stahrgazer

Name of the Tournament: Around the World in 80 Days

Link to the Tournament: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 92&t=70665

Reason(s) why you nominate this tournament: Interesting concept where we went from single players to doubles teams, triples teams and quad teams, every round choosing a new team mate from the previous round’s losers. One thing I particularly liked about that was that I played with players I did not know and would not have played with otherwise.

I'd first like to say that it's extremely hard to pick only 3 for this competition because there are so many great organisers running magnificent tournaments. But when I finally explained to myself that we are picking a tournament and not an organiser then it made things a bit easier (a special contest to pick best organiser would be nice also and maybe add new categories next year - best teams' tournament, 1v1, franchise... just throwing ideas out because there are so many finished tournaments and picking only a few from them is not easy).

Here are 3 that stood out for me (I went through 20 pages of finished tournaments for this :P).
  • 2008 College Basketball Season by flexmaster33
I don't even think that this tournament needs explaining why it's among one of the best tournaments ever ran but here are some keywords - great idea, extremely well ran, huge number of games and players, magnificent scoreboards and updates.
Edit. barterer2002 reminded me that this is a rescued tournament so it can't be nominated. I'll post third nomination later.
Also, I'd like to thank denominator for the nomination :D

I hear you ZZ. A contest for the best TO is a good idea, as well as using various catagories next time. Maybe I'll ask your help next time. ;)

I was going to nominate the Speed Doodle Terminator Tournament as well. I did participate and it was very exciting!

Mmmm.... Instead of being negative, you could nominate a tournament
Im dont play so many tournaments-and i can not count mine Tournaments-expecialy Bracket series, who is very popular.
And im not negative ,im :| (neutral) ;)
Fair enough qwert, thanks.

I found another one I'd like to nominate:

Name of the Tournament Organizer: MrMoody
Name of the Tournament: Premium+Freemium Classic Doubles
Link to the Tournament Forum Thread: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 92&t=84526
Reason(s) why you nominate this tournament: Hooking up with a, to me, totally unknown freemium made it fun. In general it was nice to see freemiums in a tournament, which made the concept very interesting. The tournament was also very well run.

Always ready to help you, Lx :)

Here's my third nomination, just a wonderful tournament from an amazing organiser. I know I might be biased as I reached so far but that's why I think I know exactly what a great job bartere2002 did with this long/huge tournament and how much work it required.
