Maybe its from this Morracan pilot who commited suicde by crashing his plane and killed 43 others, back in 1994.

I always figured that his name came from when he made a killing of $44 at his first part-time job.

I always figured that is was from flipping to a random page in the dictionary and taking the word from the top of the page and combining that word with like the number from his baseball uniform.
