No nationalism for one's country included in this question. Only your city's well-being.
It's a straight-up question. Huge invading army, city must defend itself, and its left to its own devices pretty much. So, it's up to you to go fight and defend your "motherland."

i think it's more elucidating to stipulate that the invading power is another american city. like maybe the civilized parts of the US decided to pit cheyenne and casper against each other for shits and giggles
Why wouldn't you just move? I mean, my city's OK, but there's nothing awesome about it that I would fight to defend. I would just mosey on down to the next one and live.
Now, if all cities are under attack at once, like from zee Germans or aliens or something, then I'd fight. No point to move to another city if it's also under attack.

I think this is a fun little thought exercise on nationalism and patriotism. I would say that, given that I have personal contact with the people in my neighborhood (They're the people that you meet, when you're walking down the street, they're the people that you meet each day!) Sorry. But as far as people I could care enough to risk my life for, I'd be much more willing to do so for the people I know than, you know, Idahoans. Nothing against Idaho, but if Alberta were to invade, I just wouldn't really care. Whereas if Providence were to invade Worcester, for some godforsaken reason (chronic meth shortage? a bid for control of the refreshing Polar Bottling Company? Turtleboy?), I would be pissed.
That was almost excellent. I'm interested in details of the treaty we worked out with Montana to cut through with our Chevy pickups to invade? Because B.C. would never allow it, they're not into cool stuff like wars and invading.
Yeah and I suspect we could get the brits to join in when they're here at the war games area. The problem the more accurate google map isn't showing is the mountains are quite a bit taller between us and Cranbrook so it would be much better to go via I-90.
It's interesting how this is turning out. With most people saying "No," if they were to say "YES" in favor of dying for one's country, what are they really dying for?

I would die for my city. Why? Because if it's being invaded, then clearly some sort of a despot is at the other end of things (given that we are a peace-loving laid-back city). Despots being despots, I would fight against them.

Eh, I realized that this question leaves for so many "what if"s.
Who's invading? Nazis? Canadians? Are they democratic? Freedom of their people? WHY are they invading? Is my family in danger? If my city (or country) eventually won and I didn't fight, would they harass me until I left the country? Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera and so forth.
