Speed is dead... EOM doubters

Post by army of nobunaga »

Last 6 months since ive been back has been an eye opener. Is the site dying? Ppl tired of the bullshit updates that never occur? Or ppl just dont play speeds anymore? There are 2 atm.. Im hosting one of them.

Because a year ago I was still an insomniac, and I could find a speed game of many sorts at any hour.

Sad. If maintained and promoted this site could have grown every year.

just my opinion.

anyone up for a speeder?

European Daytime always was harder to find speedgames, don't see any change in that! It will get better in like 5 or 6 hours

I think what you are seeing is a climax in players. The amount coming is has finally leveled out with the people leaving at the top. Sure while a few more at the lower end might be there, we are to a point where the first page is stabled out as far as what it takes to get there. We have come close to seeing majors back on the first page. I am not sure we will get there, but as with any game you can only do so much in it before you get tired of it. What does this all mean? It tells me CC is growing at a slower rate for many reasons. 1 the game is older now and many have been here and played and left. When CC was first coming out in 2006 till about 2008 it grew and grew pretty damn well. Sure the typical noobs never stayed past 4 games, but most everybody else did. Now what you see is these first crop of people are slowly retiring from the game and while the new crop is coming up you have it leveling off. No fault of CC, just a natural leveling off.

Just from the people here that I talk to, everybody is busy. There are lots of clan wars going on and other stuff that me be taking a lot of some peoples' time. Also, if I'm not mistaken, I think it's still the end of the school year for many people, so they're either studying for final exams or currently taking them.

My guess would be that if you wait about 2 weeks, you'll probably see more action in the speed zone.

There's 3 speed games currently waiting and 19 active.

I don't play much speed, but the few times I've checked since january I've always seen at least 5-10 speed games at any time... So I have no idea what AON is talking about here.

I find that there are plenty speed games up when I check, however the vast majority is freestyle.

It's hard to find a (interesting) sequential speed game or get one to fill.

Yeah. Okay. Not sure what your experience has been over the years with what has been offered for speeders. I can just tell you what my expereince has been. Since last July I have played 2804 speed games on 50 different maps. Usualy sequential 1v1's. I get most of my games from 7:00 am (Pacific Time) to 10:00 pm (same) Monday through Friday. A lot of US folks on then. I haven't kept a record as to how many games are offered but even as late as last week I thought, "dang, that's a lot of games and I have only a little time, I hope my game gets picked up soon." And it did.

Late night, since July, I've seen 3 to 5 games offered. Usually with Euros.

As far as the comment somewhere in this thread about a lack of "interesting" speed games? From the moment I started playing speeders it has been slow and painful filling much more than a double. And even that has always taken time for me. I used to post in call-outs (in the thread and chat) and send out invites, blah, blah, blah. But I figured that was too much like work.

Once users start to go back to their keyboards (or fancy touch-screens if you are using something new ;)), as Mibi mentioned, things will pick up.

Additionally, with our Entertainment Team, hopefully a schedule of events, both one-time and regularly occurring celebrations will help continue to keep interest (and create new interest) in Conquer Club.

Moreover, if Lack finishes his search for a Web Developer that may help increase the speed of updates, or the content of updates---or both hopefully! :D

English... I will put it very plain for you.

You have 1 field of crops which grow strong and tall. You then split into 2 fields which grow and get tall. This repeats itself until you physically run out of water, etc needed to keep up. Thus some crops start to wilt and die. In CC terms, you now have a 4 year old website, in which year 1's crop is nearly all but gone. People can only play this game for so long before you lose interest in it. So in the beginning, you had 20 people a day coming in(just a number) and losing 2 noobs who never played more than 1 turn... Now you have 18 people a day coming in and losing the same 2 noobs, but also 3 to 4 tired people. We are finally peaking out user wise. It will stay this way for some time if not go lower.

My Prediction... You will see a major on the 1st page within 3 months for the first time since early 2008.

I wouldn't say speed is dead. From my point of view, then the speed popularity has been rather steady for the last year and a half.

It's dropped a little bit since this time last year though.

This is probably because more and more players learn what an advantage Clickable Maps are. But one thing is very important to know while on the subject of Clickable Maps..

.. YOU DO NOT NEED A SUPER COMPUTER TO BE FAST WITH CLICKABLE MAPS! You simply just need a nice and clean web browser, with no add-ons/plugins. Or to summerize it all.. you want a clean computer overall, without any unessecary programs taking up memory/processor power.

I recently bought a new computer, i did increase my speed. But thats pretty much becuase my new one wasn't polluted with crap. I used my other computer for 5 years and i was considerd to be one of the fastest speed gamers using it.

Anyway...

Speed isnt dead.

Hopefully Clickable Maps will be available for everyone on Conquer Club in the next while, depending on how a couple of projects go... :)

I think speed could have slowed a little because tournaments have picked up. I know many players that don't have time to play speed because they are too busy taking so many regular turns from tourneys.(me for example)
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.
