Sacred Vows of Silence 1800+ [Winner = fairman]

Post by perchorin »

Everyone knows three player games suck because they usually devolve into bickering about who's stronger and "why are you attacking me when X is running away with the game?" nonsense. It's been years since I've played a three player game for this reason, so I decided to make a tournament of three player games with a catch--you must be absolutely silent in game chat! Consider it your sacred vow. Not even a harmless "gg" will be tolerated by this good friar! The rest of the basics:

All games will be for three players.
Groups of six will play a round robin on the three maps in the group of their choosing.
Settings for all games will be auto, sequential, nuclear, chained, and foggy.
The winner of each game receives three points. Second place gets one point. No points will be awarded for third place.
The top two point-getters in each group at the end of round-robin play will go on to the final round.
The winner of each group will chose one of their group's maps to be used in the final round.
If necessary, ties will be broken first by win totals, then by a 1:1(or if needed a 1:1:1)game on each of the three group maps.
Most importantly GAME CHAT OF ANY SORT IS NOT ALLOWED!!!
Since everyone makes mistakes, the first infraction will simply result in a warning. Every additional infraction after that(up to three)will see a point taken from your total for each instance. If you should break your sacred vow of silence four times over the course of the tourney you will be asked to leave the monastery and will be disqualified from the rest of the event.
Warnings and infractions WILL carry over from the first round into the finals.
The final round will be another round-robin played by the qualifiers from the first round on the maps chosen by group winners.
Tournament champion will be the one with the most points accrued in the final round.
Points WILL NOT carry over from the first round into the finals

The maps: (Please indicate which group you would like to join when signing up. Failure to do so will result in you not being accepted into the tournament as it does not appear you're able to read instructions)

[6/6] Western Group: Central America, Haiti, Golfe du Saint-Laurent
[player]contreras.ale[/player]
[player]fairman[/player]
[player]Gen. Ramsarelli[/player]
[player]ianphull[/player]

[6/6] Central Group: Cyprus, Iceland, Ireland

[player]machrs[/player]
[player]neanderpaul14[/player]
[player]nibotha[/player]
[player]Vaicius[/player]
[player]perchorin[/player]

reserves:
[player]arno30[/player]

Other requirements to join: As stated in the tourney thread title, you must have 1800+ points at the time of signup (and not significantly fewer at the granting of privileges) to take part. I reserve the right to deny entry to anyone I've had bad tournament experiences with in the past. Finally you'll have 24 hours to join your games once they've been sent out, then another 24 once you've been reminded and if you still fail to join your games you're out. Sorry but premium members only due to the large amount of games involved.
Thanks and good luck to all!
Addenda:
1. I would hope anyone with a score of 1800+ would know this already, but you just never know with some people so let's make it official. No game chat means there can be no in-game diplomacy, and secret diplomacy i.e. communicating with your opponent via wall post or pm is and always will be an illegal and site-ban punishable offence. Secret diplomacy (or indeed diplomacy of any kind) are not allowed in this tournament. You'll just have to win these games on your own folks.
2. While I myself will be taking part in this tournament I also reserve the right to make in game official announcements in game chats. These will be things like reminders to be quiet or notice that an infraction has been made. I will preface these in game announcements with the [official announcement] tag in game chat and will not abuse my power as head abbot to utter any non-essential or personal statements in game chat. If I make any mistakes (It is my habit to say 'good luck' for example) I will duly penalize myself in good Catholic fashion (and on the scoreboard).
3. If someone breaks their vow of silence to bait or flame you it is not acceptable to reply in any way.
Two wrongs don't make a right, turn the other cheek etc. etc. I will punish the transgressors myself and be keeping an eye on all the games. This includes both verbal and non-verbal communication i.e. "<====3" in game chat is also unacceptable.

This is a neat idea. I'm not asking to get in (first because I'm below 1800 at the moment and second because the game load is probably too high for me right now) but I wanted to stop by and say that I like the idea.

Thanks mate, I do appreciate the support and please check back if/when your score gets up over 1800!

Okay, just in case.... what exactly is the game load? I'm not sure if I'm clear on this... 3-player round robin in groups of six, does that mean every permutation of 3-choose-6, so 6 games per map X 3 maps = 18 games per round?

Actually, each player would play ten games per map for a total of 30 in the first round. If the players in a group are represented as the letters A-F the games would look like this: (*means the game has already been created)
[spoiler=game load per player in round one]Player A:
ABC
ABD
ABE
ABF
ACD
ACE
ACF
ADE
ADF
AEF
Player B:
BCD
BCE
BCF
BDE
BDF
BEF
ABC*
ABD*
ABE*
ABF*
Player C:
CDE
CDF
CEF
ABC*
ACE*
ACD*
ACF*
BCD*
BCE*
BCF*
Player D:
DEF
CDE*
CDF*
ABD*
ACD*
AED*
AFD*
BCD*
BDE*
BDF*
Player E:
ABE*
ACE*
ADE*
AEF*
BCE*

DEF*
Player F:
ABF*

CDF*

DEF*[/spoiler]
So if you make the final round you'll play a total of 60 games which may sound daunting but remember--they're only 3 player games and on relatively small maps, they should go quickly. Thanks for asking I'm glad you got me to work that all out in the thread.

By the way I see you're over 1800 now ;)
If you or anyone else sees a flaw in my math (not my strongpoint) I'd honestly appreciate it if you'd point that out.

Yeah, you're right. My math was way off; the way you have it is correct. Okay, so 10 games X 3 maps = 30 games, and 30 again if you make the finals.

You're not sending them all at once, right? Batches of 5 or so?

Gonna do one map at a time so a batch of ten is what I was planning, though that's not set in stone.

Sorry mate, you won't find a bigger fan of the nukes on this site than me! We're sticking with them but thanks for the suggestion!

Welcome in Swimmerdude. Like the new sig!

Also wanna give a heads up that I may jump on over to the Central Group if people keep signing up for the Western Group, just so more people can join the one they want. I only joined the Western Group because honesly I thought it would be the least popular one. Shows what I know lol...

Sorry mate--I'd love to put you in but your score's too low. We've got an 1800+ points threshold for this one. If you get up there before we're full I'll happily add you.

Otherwise all in to here.
