None can beat the lyrical genius which is the late Tupac Shakur. Those that have supported Sugarhill Gang surprise me. They are only known for one song: Rappers Delight and are essentially one-hit-wonders. One great group in my eyes which are often overlooked is De La Soul. This is true hip-hop (none of this 50 Cent, Nelly, Chingy crap).

Alpache too.
But hey, I don't listen to hip-hop, so to me, 2 songs one of a better band.

What the f*ck kinda list is that? You missed off pretty much all the golden era legends:
A Tribe Called Quest (who'd take the title for me)
De La Soul
Souls Of Mischief
Grandmaster Flash
Eric B and Rakim
Run DMC
Public Enemy
Pete Rock & C L Smooth
...for just a few, not forgetting Wu Tang. I'd also put Black Starr (Talib Kweli & Mos Def) and Gangstarr up there. Possibly even Big L too.
Sugarhill gang were important in the early days, and rappers delight is an important track, but as someone said earlier they haven't got the legacy.
And as good as Tupac was, he's not the greatest lyricist of all time in my opinion. To be honest, he's above average but not great. Immortal Technique is certainly up there for hard-hitting and intelligent rhymes, perhaps alongside Brother Ali and in terms of flow and pure style its got to be Q-Tip from Tribe or Tajai from Souls.

Honestly, not much of a fan for Hip Hop or Rap in general, I don't even consider it music (sorry guys), though it is entertainment, of a sort. Other then that, I'll listen to just about any kind of music (but not def metal).

Why post?

Aye. Illmatic is one of the best albums of all time I'd say. Not such a fan now, but still...
