Finding/Starting games could be streamlined

There are hundreds of unjoined games sitting in the queue collecting dust. I think this could be improved 2 ways:
- Creating a "For You" experience when you click "join games" or even having this live in some sort of notification center. "Cblake just created a game with settings you usually enjoy". Instead of the feed being in chronological order, it would be a super benefit to sort if by compatibility to the player searching. That way you can find game types you usually play faster.
- Duplicate game type warning: When you go to start a game - there is duplication detection that can sense that there are open games available of similar settings. This nudges players away from starting new games when there are similar games available waiting to be joined.

I would like to see a “see games from your map pool” and other criteria button (eg. 24 hrs per move, team games, fog of war, etc.), that one could pre-set as one saw fit.

I read via another suggestion thread that there is a way to do something similar (not sure if it included the map pool idea) via a widget, though as people would much prefer an inbuilt function over a widget I would suggest it be added in directly, perhaps as a single button labelled something like “preset search settings".

And another idea would be a “randomizer” for team games, not made as the default but as an option, by which one could have teams randomized - or perhaps even better, semi-randomized - with an aim to balance out net ratings in the interests of having more competitive games).

I mean this is an incredible idea, but alsoa good way to end up with someone joining a ton of your games.
I was attempting to medal hunt and had someone join 10 of my games, and ended up having to foe them because I politely asked them to not do it again as I was attempting to medal hunt..

And, the next time I set up 15 games they joined 8 of them..

I wasn't so polite that time. I went off.. Then foed them..

I mean I get it. One or 4 is ok with me. But almost all my games would upset me. Thats why I try to not join more than 3 games anyone sets up myself just to be fair to them.

If this is implemented I will use TF out of it for sure. Not gonna lie.

I would find it helpful if, when the search elicits more than one page, the arrows for moving to the next section also appear at the bottom of the page as well as the top. It's just a bit tedious to have to scroll all the way back up before moving on to the next 100.

if your cursor is outside the search results you only need to scroll up part of the way not the whole 100, 250, 500 etc that the results contain. I.e. the search results have a separate scroll bar to the web page as a whole.

You can also make the same page show more than a 100 results :)

True, but would it be so hard to duplicate the line from the top at the bottom? It's not major, just a tweak to make things easier.

True, but would it be so hard to duplicate the line from the top at the bottom? It's not major, just a tweak to make things easier.

Gonna have to side with plurple on this one.
You really shouldn't try to fix that which isn't broken.
That's how things become broken and need more repairs.

It suggesting other games when you join one or create one is one thing. But trying to change the whole searching platform isn't logical. It's working fine and changing it could probably just mess it up.

Not everything is as simple as just adding a html code.
It could cause conflict with existing site coding, or not show compatibility to be places within the area it's intended without altercations elsewhere.

And if that one line of code doesn't have a proper closing tag by mistake you end up with syntax error.
It's not as easy as everyone thinks it is. One simple issue can lead to multiple major issues, and with a degree in electronics technology I can tell you that one simple supposed fix can easily turn into a whole list of major issues. .


And that's why if it isn't broken you don't fix it. Causing more pointless problems is for the uneducated..

Go make your own and compellingly defend your argument. This space should be for the defense of his suggestion. That's not fair to CBlake at all.

Electronics technology is not the same as coding software, which I've been doing for 40 years. Some things are harder than they look. This is not only easy to do, it's very easy to test.

Its a completely different idea from what CBlake posted in the thread.
Their idea was to have all similar games to the one joined or created to show after joining or starting a game.
Recommending changes to the game finder page is completely different, a whole different idea, and a different basis for a suggestion. So this is an attempt at thread hijacking.

That makes you incredibly lame. And I'm not sorry for saying so.

Then do like plurple suggested and input it for yourself. Maybe it will work the way you want it to or maybe it wont and would be shot down as a suggestion just like it was in 2011 and people were told to just scroll back up.

You should really learn to look through the 70something pages of suggestions that have been completely ignored by admins and mods because most of the ones you have been defending and suggesting are the exact same of those that have been ignored since the creation of the suggestions forum.You make yourself look sooo uneducated by trying to look smarter than someone else and its kinda really annoying...


Also, key concept coding was one of my critical classes in my first year of college. And I've coded almost 50 websites since without pre-manufactured lines, all from my own thoughts and designs. Trying to tell me that my degree in electronics technology has nothing to do with coding only makes you look that much more uneducated.
Your system of schooling over there may be different than ours in the US, and maybe you need to consider that, or do some research before you try to compare the two. I know what classes I took and what I learned. Most of it may have not stuck with me or been smoked away from my memory, but that's a different story.


First thing they tell us in school is to research every topic before defending it.. Maybe you need to do so too.

For the record, I'm still in full support of CBlake's original idea that was posted.

Can we please overlook the attempt hijacking of their suggestion and get back to topic?

Thanks for the discussion all!

I think it should be a PRIORITY for CC to get games joined faster and have less backlog of unjoined games. Another feature that would help here are map/settings popularity ratings. That way if you are starting a game that is unlikely to be joined - the system should be predictive and already know this.

Alerting players if they are starting a game type thats already made and available to be joined seems like a no brainer. The more games you get people in quickly - the more user satisfaction you will have.
