I just wish the snobbery would stop in this community.I have never refused to play anyone because of rank.If I did then I would proberly still have a crown.The crown would be worthless though.
If you can't play all of conquerclub,then it tends to limit our horizons.
Still thats just me.
I can understand why you wouldnt want to play deadbeats,but thats where my understanding comes to a close.

Stealth Chat? That would indicate that there is chat going on - you just can't see it (i.e. private PMs). Did you mean dearth of chat?

I always say good luck to everyone (even if I only have 1 opp). I might point out there good/bad drop or their good/bad dice - or talk about my stuff. I'm usually fairly friendly.

i agree with you to an extent.

first of all the goal of CC is to become conqueror (yes some people say their goal is just to have fun or just to chat or stuff like that, but the vast majority will want to hold the #1 spot at some point.

that being said, we come to the scoring system where if you play against low rankers you have to win like 90% of your games which is impossible. SO if you want to become conqueror never play people that are ranked bellow you. plain and simple.

on your way to the #1 spot you'll also want to have some fun, right? well let's see, one of the fastest ways of gaining points is playing escalating games. they end in 10-15 turns so the faster they end the more games you can play and the more points you can gain (in theory). the problem with escalating is that many people don't understand it properly. and when a cook suicides on you just to break your south america bonus even though the next cash-in is 30, you kinda get the urge to give him a piece of your mind. in short the chances of a low ranker doing something stupid in escalating games is really high in escalating games. i'm not saying all low rankers do this but merely that high rankers understand escalating better.

and since we're talking about low rankers spoiling your game in escalating , we can extend that to all game types. suicide, revenge, ignorance of other people's bonuses, or simply going for the highest ranked player in that game are all perfectly good reasons why a high ranker will feel reluctant to playing low rankers.

so you see, the main reasons why a high ranker will avoid low rankers are:
1. impossible to make big profits
2. high chances of frustration caused by the low ranker's inability to play the game properly.


i don't care much about my rank. but i do care about my fun factor. i played cooks and cadets and had loads of fun because i knew them and even if they grabbed 50 of my points in a single win i didn't care much.

i play 3 kinds of games:
1. with friends regardless of rank (good chat - loss of points)
2. with high rankers (experience gained - this is where my points come from)
3. tourney games (for fun - usually loss of points)

i only play singles games because i find them more challenging and more fun.

from the 1st type of games i get lots of satisfaction because i like playing against my friends.
from the 2nd type i also get lots of satisfaction because i learn new strategies and because i like a good challenge
from the third type i'm beginning to kinda lose my fun and gain on the frustration thing. mainly because in tourney i encounter all kinds of people that simply screw my game because they don't know how to play. probably in the near future i'll stick to #1 and #2. will that make me a snob? i hope not. to be honest i've had a lot of recent screw-ups cause by low rankers perhaps i'm a bit biased by these recent happenings or perhaps not but the point is i care too much about my fun factor to let somebody spoil it.

i have a rank of 2000+ and i play public games ALL THE TIME. and i see alot of other high ranked players doing the same, ive even seen majors show up in public games. just because some folks that are on the first page of the scoreboard only play private games, there are plenty of games with high ranked players in the public area every day. it just seems like they dont, because the ammount of high ranked players is HEAVILY out numbered by the ammount of low ranked players, according to the scoreboard there are 20,000 active players on cc right now, and only 500 of them are over 2000 in rank, of course it is going to appear like there arent alot of games with high ranked players. if you look around you will find public games with high ranked players, so shut up. not everybody is a snob. just do a search in game finder with my name and public games checked, and you will see that they are out there.

pause for comic effect and follow it with the hillarious

I play a lot of Private games but i do play a good amount of Publics too.

It may be true that Higher ranks only consistently play very new players in Team games. This is because it is a bit less finely balanced ... it only takes one chap to target you and your game may be over in a singles. That can be frustrating and if you stand to lose more points in a game than you can win, it may be too much for many to accept.

I agree that everyone should play everyone .. but as the highest ranked players have taken a long time to accumulate their score they often do not wish to play ranks where they stand to lose 50 to a hundred points in a game.. therefore if you wish to play against the best players you have to have a high score .. it can be a bit of a vicious-cycle!

My mate Hatchman, feeling very much the same way as Sirius, has suggested that we could have a point amnesty in some games .. whereby you could play anyone just for fun and without exchange of points....

Hatch actually does feel quite a pressure to score points; in fact to the point where he no longer enjoyed the game ...

So he was saying that he would like to take the points out of it in some cases.. In order for the pressure to be taken out and then anyone could more freely play anyone else!.. which is what i think Sirius was calling for.

Taking the points out should be fine for low rankers if they don't care about the points? (surely only those of higher ranks care about points.. )
Of course not, many like to play Higher ranks as there is a higher reward.... ... but you see the problem with that can be that the ranking player gets targeted.

Anyway this is not the point and i am not going to stick up for a 2 tier system.

I play quite a number of Singles public game too and i very much enjoy them.

I've actually had some games where the chat was more entertaining than the gameplay itself... some genuine hilarity where my ass actually fell off. I'm very competitive, enjoy kicking butt and love to win, but I'm just not a point hor and if the time comes where I don't enjoy playing I'll definitely take a time out.

Most of my games are public but I am guilty of avoiding games with too many (?)s in them because the reoccurring deadbeat bs just gets old.

i play alot of private games, because the games are better and more enjoyable for me, however i think if you cant beat 5 noobs 8 times out of 10, then you dont deserve to have a high rank. seems the only ppl that are scared of playing public singles tgames are the ones that have gotten their rank by playing nothing bu public doubles or triples against poor noobs that dont have a chance against a decent player. seems more like manipulating the rank system than earning a rank. not that there is anything wrong with that, but its silly to me when those ppl complain.

I had an idea! how about we have a game option where we play for no points! that way we would break the cycle of point acquisitiveness and lower ranks would get the chance to play higher ones.

At the moment, unfortunate though it is, human nature determines that when you earn something few wish to give it all away! this linked with the point handicap leads to a 2 tier gaming structure.

My idea would enable newer players to learn the nuances of the game from experienced players and also allow experienced players to familiarise themselves with good but new players and not brand them all as Deadbeats and suiciders.

yeah, see im not trying to bash you or hatchman, this thread was started about ppl complaining that no higher ranked players play public games, i disagreed since i play alot of public games and see many other higher ranked players doing the same. you stated that hatchman agreed with the author which i assumed meant that hatchman wished that more higher ranked players played public games. i was merely pointing out the silliness of a higher-ranked player that doesnt play many public games complaining about how higher ranked players dont play more public games.

and i think your idea has been suggested before but has always been turned down. i dont have any opinion on the idea, since i would not likely play with that option.

lol, there will always be snobs. it is inevitable. there are tons of lower ranked players that only play in private games or in tournaments also. it happens.

it's a nice point but the Cuttle fish is in fact far more intelligent and from the Squid family(cephalpoda, ironicus cuttlefishicus) ... A branch of the animal kingdom renowned for it's grasp of irony and often keen to point out the error of ones ways!
