Hello everyone. I've recently played a game wherein I had a very interesting conversation regarding freestyle games.
For anyone interested in looking up the game it is 1684312
I am sure this topic has been discussed alot and there are many opinions regarding how freestyle games can be played. Upon joining this site, it was marketted to me (by a good friend) as a convenience-based, non-time consuming game. This site provides a superior product to the average boardgame of risk.
a) You do not need to spend time setting up a board
b) You do not need to constantly handle game pieces. c) You are not forced to set time aside to play a game
For such a superior product, one might expect there to be a counter-balance, in theory there is one, the lack of communication and playmanship with others, as the above benifits are normally found in games against a computer and not against others. However, CC even overturns that balance by allowing for player vs player playmanship and communication via inbox and game chat. CC has established an amazing product because of its convenience.
That being said... I am a player who plays on CC because of this benifit. I cannot put time aside to play risk for hours in a day because I am always multitasking. I play CC because I can sneak on during class, I can play while uploading some documents, I can take a break between an assignement and have a look at my active games to see whats going on, none of which I can do if I'm checking the page every 2 minutes. However, I do enjoy playing freestyle because of the opportunity to move at the same time as my opponent.
That being said, there is a conflict. Some players are of the opinion that if you join freestyle you must play RT. I'd like to see what the members of this community think. Can a player playing on a convenience-based schedule enjoy Freestyle-CC or is Freestyle a way for non-premium players to enjoy a speed-type game?
This is not to say I can never do a realtime game, sometimes I can, my grief comes when I find 3 minutes so join a freestyle game, make a move and then read below chat before leaving: "gl and lets do this RT"
You don't have to play when they're playing. Sometimes it's better not to: no need to start a round when you need time to break a bonus, and your opponent is waiting for you so he can get the troops for it.
Freestyle is, as you've put it, a nice way to play at the same time as your opponent, as well as a way to ensure that you get at least one turn a day.
If they really wanted to play in real time, they could shell out for premium, or get a board and some friends.
That should be the end of the discussion. Sure, a casual game can be played as quickly as a speed game if the players in it agree to do so. If one or two players can't, well suck it up to the others.
With that said I just want to add that DragonsMaster is a jerk, I'm also too stingy to pay for premium but I don't expect to play my games in RT. If he wants to lose faster than in 39 minutes he should ask Sirius if he can play him on the Magic map.
edit: well, at least initially he was, he became more reasonable later on.

When you click Casual and Freestyle and make/join that game then you have 24 hours to take the turn and you can make you turn 2 minutes before the 24 hours are over. And if people whine about that then they deserve a neutral feedback with a warning to others and that you would take your turns at the last minute until the game goes on

the speed games being set up mean thats where real time games are...
freestyle games arent necessarily real time unless they were set up as private games as real time
its how the game is set up, and for $25 a player can make speed games and private games. If they cant, they just have to accept that freestyle is not real time... they may not, but its not your fault

I only used to play freestyle when I was freemium because it was the only way to get in most games and when you logged on you knew you would have 4 games where it would be your turn.
Because people have an opinion doesn't make them right.
As long as one plays within the written guidlines then there really is no problem. To many peiple wish to shape the gaming experience to how it best suits them without consideration to the community as awhole.
Its like when your driving a car and you curse the pedestrian, who takes his sweet time crossing the street. Later in the afternoon you yell F*** YOU to the car that honks at you crossed at the yellow.
