I thought racism was dead...

Post by OnlyAmbrose »

...until I parked at the movie theater tonight, got out of my car, and saw this on the license plate in front of me.

Of course I took a picture on my phone, no one would believe this kind of thing exists in SoCal without proof.

For reals.

In that case I'm just as appalled that someone could be so ignorant as to not know the implications of his initials. ;)

Either way:

Unless, of course, he's black, then it's okay, right? ;)

I assumed wikipedia was smart enough to figure that out. Turns out it's just the first choice on the disambiguation page. My bad.

Also, I like using "wikipedia" as a verb. f*ck language.

Even if this somehow turns out to be Josie Crow's automobile, who has an affinity for J. Crew and found J. Crow to be a pun worthy of plunking down for a vanity plate, you thought wrong.

I wish you had enough time to hang around and get a glimpse of the person, Ambrose. It might have explained some things. As bad as our educational system is over here, people who should be offended by it might not even be aware that they need to be. Ignorance is sometimes bliss.

California is actually a hotbed for some of the ultra-idiotic white supremists.

The danger is not so much that they exist ... some folks just WILL be jerks. The danger is that too many people think, as you do, that "racism is dead".

It can be a double-edged sword. Those who think it "cannot be" overlook too much. AND, there are also a good number of folks of color who have gigantic chips on their shoulders (for justified reasons or not) and therefore want to see EVERY small hurt they face as automatically "racist." BOTH are problems.

AND, the solution is about the same in either case. Educate our kids, teach them tolerance for ALL sorts of differences.

I live in suburban paradise. That's more or less the last place I would ever expect to see racism. :P

Becase everyone's a "bleeding heart liberal", as some people would put it?

Actually I live in a fairly conservative area. More because it's just never been a problem in SoCal, now or historically. Not at school, not at work, nowhere really. This was the first time I've seen anything like this.

The extent of racism here is basically just making racist jokes that everyone enjoys anyhow :P

No, but in all seriousness, unless we elect him or someone similar, and damned soon, we are a finished country.

You think so? I think it eases it. At least, I know it does in my circle of friends.

I'm not sure if suggs was being sarcastic or not... I think, like everything else, it depends.
