The Succession Wars [idea]

Post by Scorps »

I love playing Risk and also used to enjoy Axis & Allies but does anyone here remember a board game called 'The Succession Wars'? The best way to describe it was it was like a cross between 'Dune' and 'Deep Space 9'. Set around 1000 years in the future, the map revolved around 'Terra' (Earth) and consisted of 5 ruling houses, populating the outer galaxy. The 'House' states were descended from some of today's leading countries. They were, in order of power:

1. Davion (France) (yellow)
2. Kurita (Japan) (red)
3. Marrick (GB & USA) (purple)
4. Stiener (Germany) (blue)
5. Liao (China) (green)

I can't be certain this is 100% accurate but I did play the game a lot. I think the map would work well in CC because there would be 5 'continents' available with varying degrees of bonuses. Also, Terra is neutral, with say 3 neutral armies? In the game, Terra is neutral. If anyone attacks Terra they are subject to a permanent attacking penalty for the rest of the game. Attack bonuses can however also be gained. Terra is sometimes attacked by a huge army as a shortcut.

On the outer edges of the populated Galaxy lie the independent 'Pirate' states. Perhaps they could be a 6th minor continent bonus? Does anyone else have fond memories of this game? If so, please add to this thread as I'm only scratching the surface on how good it was. I believe it would transfer to CC well and could be very popular. :)

5. Liao (China) (green)
gasp..how could they make China last

Anyways, this could be okay, however there could be copyright issues

Looks it could work, altough i think its a copyright issue. Terra isint worth anything, if you make some montains so there actully is a shortcut, and advantage getting terro the map will slightly be better.

I also think the terretories could be splitten into 3 more continents, various of gameplay options.

Like useing the Cicrcunes Fedration Attack: Banditkingdom and Outworld alliance.

The whole point of Terra was that it was worthless. I was always amazed that it still got attacked in about half the games I played. In the history of TSS, 'Terra' was ruled by a secret society who controlled the communications technology that travelled faster than the speed of light.

I agree that the 'continents' could be split up more but I'd prefer to see them sub-divided, with a bonus for owning the entire continent. Regarding barriers, how would this work in Space? The scary thing about playing TSS was that you could be attacked from so many borders at the same time. It would be a bit like the other CC map 'Feudal War'(?) in that respect. Yes, this is good. People are discussing. Thanks for your opinions so far guys. :)

I also meant to suggest that bonuses could be achieved for holding certain territories with industrial centres (usually 4 in each continent).

Well if you do it like World 2.1 alot of regions of bonus from 1 continent. That would be great. And i think it should be worth takeing terra. And conquest is good.

I guess the one good thing about Terra is that it can act as a bridge. Positive, negative? That needs to be discussed more I think. I think we could also get round the copyright issue by creating a subtle variation, like using different names for example. :geek:

I think I will. In the mean-time if anyone knows a good map-maker who can help me with the final design that would be great. Cheers Androidz. ;)

Heck, i'll support any new map. But you're gonna have to change a lot about the map to avoid copyright infringement. But at least I'll keep my mouth shut.
