leave "Reply" alone

Post by Natewolfman »

Concise description: Bring back the Reply while still allowing the 'reply to all'

Specifics: above

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • here is the problem, i spend most of my time with tournaments as an organizer, so when i send a PM, i often mass PM to 16,32,64,128 players or more at a time, and soemtimes i will send to players needing specific information, now these players reply back to me to send me there info, however while sending to me they are ALSO sending to the other numerious players without knowing it, or needing it... basically it is flooding other players inboxes badly, and its only been up for a little while

now sometimes the reply all is a great thing, but not when its the only option... I would like to see a 'Reply' and 'Reply All' buttons separate, as its a huge pain to go through and X out 127 players to send to a single, or constantly having to copy open a new page, paste, retype the senders... alot of unneeded work

It's a lot easier to just reply to one person than 128... Just copy and paste the 1 name out again...

If it's on or the other - I say leave Reply to All in there...

However - 2 buttons would be better.

But it's the standard software - so I suspect that Lack will be loath to change it.

If you add all the names as BCC instead of normal, that should (theoretically) keep it from being replied to all.

tested this and it does work, which now makes this issue almost obsolete, it would still be nice to have two separate buttons, but if useing the BCC option works, its not as big of a deal

Note: This was a change made to phpBB 3.0.3 by the Developers, not a MOD that lack installed.

I still don't like i that i now get 20 odd unwanted messages now instead of 2. Since people have replied to all instead of just the sender.

This have to happen.. i've being spammed like crazy due to this. People who just send out mass PM's asking for private games, and then loads of those of course have to send back a "yes" answer, but of course all 100 who got the PM from the beginning have o get it... My inbox gets full in a day due to this... So annoying.

I have to say, the Reply To All feature has been the best addition to the site yet

I want to say that the Reply to All feature is a royal pain in the ass. It's really messing things up for me as a tournament organizer. I'm getting mail about conversations that have nothing to do with me. It's filling up my inbox and is starting to make me mad.

Then he needs to find a way to UNinstall it.

While this works, the problem is that there is nothing I can do. It relies on other people to know this handy piece of information.

More to the point, when replying I'll check off the names I don't want to reply to, yet they get the PM anyway.

I agree...

I got an invitation to join negoeien's tournament, and he mass PMed over 100, and when they replied to him, I probably got 20 irrelevant messages in my inbox.

i disagree... at least at the whole, it was his fault the PMs were massed in such a way, but if you have no knowledge of this (as MANY players do not, and WILL not in the future) you cant really blame him for it, can you? I didnt know about this until i sent my first mass PM after the update *shrugs* either way its a painfull new set up we have going

Not if used correctly...

It's more powerful, therefore better, than what we had before...

If everyone would learn how to use the f*cking BCC tool.

I just signed on this morning and had 28 new messages because people couldn't figure out how to sign up for a tournament inside it's thread.....

I'm averaging 15-20 every day that I don't want.... fix it! Add another button, or change the button to say "reply all" or something.

It's growing more and more annoying.

And by "correctly", you mean "differently than every other inbox/emailing system everyone has ever used". Right?

Fair point... but didn't Bill gates say that when he made MS-DOS?
