Even start for all players

Post by Grifter »

Concise description:
Make the first round an even and fair start for all players by:
  • players would not receive a bonus for any zones that they just happen to have
  • all players would receive the same number of starting armies regardless of any regions they may have lost due to other players going first
Specifics:
On some maps (such as "Seige") if the first player just happens to hold an entire zone (such as "The Trone") then the player gets an extra army. This gives him/her an unfair advantage.

Also if every player starts with 12 regions (as an example) then the first play to start gets 4 armies. If the first player then attacks another player and conquers a region then that players gets only 3 armies to start with since s/he now has only 11 regions. Every player should be able to start with 4 armies.

After the first round it is game as usual.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
Gives everyone a fair and even start to the game. Luck should be restricted to the dice or the cards

This doesn't happen on the board game by another name - the drop is also random...

Of course - the blanket provision of 3's across the board changes the factors on this.

Without the element of luck cooks would never beat any high rankers, and it would be hard to get demoted ( :) ) and hard to get promoted ( :( )

The fun of playing cooks and the like is waiting to get a bad start and seeing what everyone does ;)

Oh yeah, plus it can be funny when people get a bad start and start going on about how bad everything is

I'm really evil

This suggestion has the first element in common with No continent bonus the first turn. Since the two are distinguished by the second element I am not merging them.
FREE M-E-Mbership and simple rules. Conquer Club - it's not complicated.

I second this.

I just joined a 1v1 game on the map "Italy" and before either of us have taken a turn I have already lost.

We each have 12 territories and he started on 2 "cities" so he gets another +1 bonus.

He gets to go first, so when he takes his turn he will get +5. On my turn I'll only get +3 because obviously he will take at least one of my territories and I did not start with any bonuses.

Unless this guy plays like a total idiot (and I'm not expecting him to) I don't see how I can possibly win (and no turns have even been taken yet!!). :(

Game 3799450

He started with an extra 1... not 2.

Also, the solution is simple: quench Qwert's maps faster.

Turn 1:
Him: +5
Me: +3

Turn 2:
Him: +4
Me: +3

Turn 3:
Him: +4
Me: +4

Turn 4:
Him: +4
Me: +3

Turn 5:
Him: +5
Me: +3

Overall:
Him: +22
Me: +16

(the game was over by then, and then he started getting +6, etc.)

Because of start positions he never had less than 4 armies per turn and (also because of start positions) I was never able to have more than 3 except for one turn. :o :(

I feel your pain ZeekLTK. I had a similar experience on Siege map which prompted me to post this idea. I hope it gets accepted.

Even in sports they try to make the start of a game even. In football each side gets start a half. Imagine if the same team got to start both halves. In basketball it is thrown up in the air between 2 player so that each player has an equal chance to get the ball first.

Any follow up on this idea? How does one know when the idea is accepted or rejected?

My example is similar:
Bamboo Jack,1 vs 1, Tournament, No Spoils...
Red starts with 11 on his first turn because he owns the Brigde. On my first turn, I get 7. Game over from the start.

Some maps are specifically crafted for perfectly even starts---the Conquer style maps such as Feudal War, etc. Regarding the other maps, though every now and again one may get a bad (or good) drop, I believe the large majority of maps in play are quite balanced during the initial early turns. Keep in mind, certain settings applied to any map can unbalance a drop, such as 1vs1 unlimited on North America or World 2.1.
