Are "Cashing in spoils" done automatically or is there a manual process for players to achieve this :?:

You decide. You can avoid cashing in so long as you have 3 or 4 cards, but if you have five at the beginning of your turn you must cash in.

Instructions wrote:What's a group of spoils? You earn spoils at the end of every turn in which you successfully conquer a region, just like reality! These spoils each represent a region on the map and can be blue, green or red. If you acquire 3 spoils of any one colour, or one of each, you now have a "group" of spoils which you may exchange for additional troops at this time. The value of these spoils depends on which spoils game option was chosen: escalating or flat-rate. You also get a 2 troop bonus on any region that you own if it is represented in the group.
Instructions wrote:You cannot accumulate more than 5 spoils, therefore there may be a mid-turn cashing in of groups after eliminating an opponent.
Hope those help.

Also, if you eliminate a player midturn and you end up with 5 or more spoils you are forced to cash a set. There is also a feature that goes against intuition because you are allowed to cash as many sets as you would like to at this point.

So if you eliminate a player and you get a set but only have 4 spoils, you cannot cash.

If you eliminate a player and you get 6 total spoils which happens to contain 2 sets, you are allowed to cash them both. This can be critical in escalating games.
