I saw a thread like this somewhere else, and it intrigued me.
The question is: what movies have you seen more than 10 times?
It's not the same as the questions: what are your favourites, or what are the best. You may have watched some movies 10 times'cos you've got kids, or 'cos they were always on at Xmas, or cos you were trying to learn the lines, etc. Also, at least in my case, there are movies that I loved but that 10 viewings would spoil.
I decided not to count the stuff I used to show as a Training Manager, mainly cos ther were dozens of em and I have no idea at this remove what their titles were.
So here's my "10+ views".
2001 a Space Oddessey : unique in my list in that I've seen it that often in a cinema. I watched it once on TV and it simply didn't work. On the big screen, especially the extra-wide ones they used to have ("cinemascope"?) it was jaw-dropping.
The Princess Bride: I've gone on about this before. If you missed it, my opinion is that you haven't got the point if you haven't seen the movie AND read the book - they are a single work of art.
Starship Troopers: every time I see this I sit in the corner muttering about how they butchered Heinlein's plot, and how bad the science is. But I still love it.
Excalibur: simply the best movie ever made.
The Magnificent 7: always used to be on the TV on Bank Holidays. An absolute classic. They tried to do it again and again, but it never worked. Yes, I watched 7 Samurai too, but this was a part of my childhood. And that soundtrack!
Zulu: Again, on the box every Xmas. Beautiful stuff. Can't you see their spearpoints gleaming?
The Rocky Horror Picture Show: unique.
The Wind in the Willows: The 90's animated version with Alan Bennet and Rik Mayall among others doing the voices. I loved it, the kids loved it, I still find it hard to walk through a woods without shouting out in an Alan Bennet voice Ratty! Oh, Ratty, I'm such a fool!
The Willows in Winter: more of the same...and how I wish they'd filmed the other sequels by William Horwood.
I'm sure there's more, but they're not coming to mind right now.
How 'bout you folks? No cheating now, we don't care how embarrasing it is, if you've seen it ten times it should be right here. And no matter how much you think it would make you look cool or intellectual, you can't list anything you haven't seen 10 times.
