Alrighty! So moral of the story is, don't join a team game with BOTH Unlimited Reinforcements AND Freestyle Play Order game settings unless you're very, very, very, very sure that you can take what's coming to you. Choose either Chained/Adjacent Reinforcements or Sequencial Play Order if you want to avoid getting your arse handed to you while trying to find new teammates to play along with. :D

Seriously It is a TEAM GAME They used good teamwork to beat you. Get over it. That is what freestyle is all about.

@ the OP, most all of CC knows this already :) PM sometime for a team game where you join with me.

Bruceswar - stop being such a troll. I dont care about being beaten. If thats all you got to offer in this thread then keep you useless trolling comments to yourself. You dont have to agree with what I said but you can act mature and ask/discuss like other people. Instead you just showed what a ignorant person you are.
Thanks very much for derailing the thread.
Yes it is a team game - I just feel that there is a loop hole (exploit) in the game mechanics that allow people that play simultaneously to have an advantage over people that dont in a TEAM GAME. If you dont understand what we are talking about then do everyone a favor and dont post here.

Yet another reason why I don't play freestyle... and rarely play team games in Sequential.

yeah, when you join a team game, and get your collective ass kicked by a group of people playing as a TEAM, what can you complain about? to top it off, you set up the game and they joined... you got destroyed by a better team. deal with it...-6cd

He's not ocmplaining about the fact he was beaten by a better team..

It's more the fact that for new people who join this site, freestyle is something where you come on anytime you can and play and do so. People don't realise it's something which is co-ordinated or where people sit there refreshing every couple of seconds for minutes on end.

Yeah he got beat, he's not complaining that fact, just trying to tell people who don't realise, what the score is.

I totally understand what YOU are talking about here. The OP is warning people. That is nice. Some people may not know that freestyle means you can play all at once. You are the other hand are complaining about freestyle when it comes to team games. There is no exploit with team games, and or freestyle. Even if you played the same 8 people in a SEQ game the results would be about the same, just a longer game. For that matter you could make it a speed game, where everybody is around all at once, and team 2 would have a much better position. Simple reason is they work well as a team together. I am not saying any of you are bad players, but as a team you have not played together whereas team 2 has. Stacked odds right there. If you have a problem with freestyle, team or standard games, then it is simple. Do not play them. There is no exploit at all, just good team play. Surely you cannot tell me after making it all the way to Sgt 1st class, you did not know what freestyle meant.

@ the OP my offer to play a team game with you stands. PM me...

Let's try to explain this in as simply and uncomplicated a manner as possible, just for you.....

I joined a team game for the first time, out of curiosity, not really knowing what to expect. I didn't know the host or the other two teammates, he didn't know me and may well have not known the other two before that game started. Then along comes four very well organised players and they go to work, very quickly gaining the upper hand using the game settings to maximum advantage(nothing wrong with that, they're supposed to do that!) Before we know it they've got control of the board and they press their advantage, wiping us out(nothing wrong with that either, they're supposed to do that also!)

So, the original post is there to highlight:

1)What happened.

2)How it happened.

3)How to avoid it.

I know the original post contains more than one paragraph of text, you might find it hard to digest all in one go. If you still feel the need to ignore everything I've said here and drone about how much you think I'm whining and about getting beaten in a game. Then start a thread HERE and flame away to your hearts content instead of spamming this thread up with your mental vomit.

There's a sub-forum for freestyle whipees? And to think I've been crying myself to sleep for the last 3 nights. Woe is me, woe is me.

I'll be posting in Strategy sometime. That's probably the best place for this subject, although I had hoped to capture a wider audience here it would be more appropriate to take it to the Strategy sub-forum.

NEWCOMERS BEWARE: Freestyle Team Games

Postby Artimis on Tue Nov 25, 2008 3:44 pm

PLEASE NOTE: This post is for newcomers. To inform them about potential dangers that they might encounter during a game. Experienced players will likely not find anything of interest in this post, but constructive contributions to this thread are greatly appreciated.

The title may seem dramatic, but I have good cause. I did consider 'WARNING: Danger Of Death', but that seemed over the top. Basically I want to warn you about starting Freestyle Play Order team game. You should seriously reconsider creating team games with the Freestyle Play Order setting, because there are groups of highly organised and ruthless individuals that are looking for such games and will join them enmasse, taking their turn as one.

There's pretty much nothing you can do to counter that tactic, it's celebrated in a somewhat tasteless fashion in the General Discussion Forum topic entitled Farming secret revealed. But don't despair just yet! While it's not a good idea to host or join Freestyle Play Order games, moves are a foot by members of this community to address this issue as detailed in this post in the Sugs & Bugs Forum topic entitled Partial Freestyle. In my humble opinion I think this suggestion is a good idea, if you agree then I encourage you to add your voice to the Yes Vote.

If this depressing warning is not enough reason for you not host/join Freestyle Play Order team games then click the -SHOW: DETAILED EXPLANATION- link below, it will show the more detailed original post that you can read at your leisure.

show: Detailed Explanation

Play safe and choose wisely.

thats quite a lot to read...
couldnt you shorten it a bit?

btw, you might want to add that it works beter on smaller maps because then a good team can take 1 or 2 of you out in the first round making it almost impossible for you to win

it ran 3 pages, and a mod didn't think it needed to be moved.. you chose to do so after it ran out of steam and nobody agreed with you...

The thought did cross my mind, but I don't want to miss anything. It could use some editing to make it more compact and to the point. I'm still playing Freestyle team games so I'll be able to refine it some more later.

Where do I start?.... First off, the flame thread was just for your benefit, not that any of your replies to that thread were in public. Secondly, I don't have a problem with Freestyle in itself, it's just bloody perilous in a team game and I think other new players ought to be told about it. Thirdly, I've posted here in the strategy section in the hope that it would stay on topic instead of decending into another slanging match *hint, hint* like the last thread did.

You know where the flame room is, if you can't manage that then take this pointy hat with a large "D" printed on it, place on your head and go sit in the corner quietly, there's a good lad......

Postby owenshooter on Wed Nov 26, 2008 4:46 am

can we please merge these identical threads with the identical opening posts:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=69700

and please give this gentleman a warning about flaming members outside of flame wars. had i levelled insults at him, as he has at me, we all know i would be on a forum vacation. enough is enough...-6cd

p.s.-as stated before. it is not cheating. it is not unfair. you got beaten by a better team while trying to farm points in a setting you did not know how to play. get over it.

p.p.s.-i just find it so amusing that you started a team game, waited for a team to join, got THROTTLED, and then complained about how unfair the settings are, that you chose to play!!!

You seem to be quite an intelligent person and have a secure grip on how to obtain points with a variety of playing styles artemis. Why in the hell are you a cook? You write well and you understand how to emphasize the underlying point behind high rank strategies and the games they choose for what reasons. It truly baffles me that you aren't climbing the scoreboard. Apply this same general logic to your own playing ability and you will gain points. This one is a head scratcher for me.

Partly bad decision making in the games I play, a tiny smidgen of bad luck here and there. Also I've gravitated from Terminator games(where I accumulated most of my points) to Standard games where the winner takes all. If I wanted to climb the scoreboard then I'd go back to Terminator games, but that's not a priority for me at the moment. I just want to play lots of Standard games and a few team games as well for the time being. :)
