The more I drive around the more I like the idea of making a map of the LA area, in which you'd get bonuses for controlling the freeways - the 5, 10, 101, etc.

An LA map would have the same problem I'm running into with Berlin - a lack of natural unpassable borders, but there is a lot of potential graphically. I'll play with it more when I have more time.

I've been thinking much the same thing, and if I weren't completely and utterly worthless at drawing things on a computer I might have taken a stab at it...

As far as natural unpassable borders, there are a couple of things to consider:
1. what if you could only move between areas using the freeways and offramps?
2. perhaps even better, you could do a themed LA map, like post-earthquake or the Rodney King riots, which would give you a lot of opportunities to fitz with the gameplay using downed overpasses or rioting masses or huge fires and what not... note that I'm NOT talking about some BS rendition of the city from Escape from LA...

Map of Spain plus...

Postby Warren-Empire on Sun Aug 19, 2007 4:41 pm

I would like to see a game board of Spain. Imagine... Andalucia, Catalunya, Galicia, Pais Basco, Valencia, Madrid, Aragon, Ceuta, Canary Islands, Castilla Leon... etc etc. Alternatively, it could be a map of Iberia, consisting of Spain, Portugal, and Andorra.

On another subject... I think that conquer club should reconsider the suggestion made to be able to 'freeze' the game if everyone or a majority agrees to a request made by one of the players.

Chutes and Ladders (probably already suggested)

Chutes and Ladders

Country is every 10 or 20 squares, and everything's already numbered. Yes, I know about getting MB permission, but this map can be re-created to something very different, just look similar.

love the idea especially the overlapping continents another idea is to throw in even more overlapping maybe even religion (though that would be hard since other than armenia the area is dominately muslim but you could do sects an such)

really like the idea though

I know a similar game called "Snakes" and Ladders.

Does this have anything to do with that?

It is Snakes and Ladders, and it sounds interesting too.

I tried this before, but failed because I didn't have the necessary graphic editing skills.

Feel free to take anything you like from this thread:

WWII Operation Market Garden idea

Postby Major King on Mon Aug 20, 2007 10:25 am

WWII Operation Market Garden

Would it be possible to make a map of the largest airborne operation in history and would take place in the netherlands. you would have intermingled areas consisting of british and american airborne units (1st british airborne division along with 82nd and 101st us airborne divisions) british XXX corps, dutch resistance along with german army group b. given the stategic placments of this battle and the intermingling of allied and german forces with no clear front line it would make an excelent map to play risk on.

Not as yet trying to find a decent map to use as a base but have got a run down of allied troop deployment and commanders, a bit sketchy on the Germans though. Will put in a draft asap

Well, I don't have any graphics editors besides paintbrush, which they tell us not to use. And my internet connection screws up when downloading, so if it's bigger than 5 MB, then I probably couldn't download it.

The version I found is actually called "chutes and ladders," which probably has the same rules. In my thoughts, you had to go sequential, or you could take a ladder up to the square it goes to, or a chute (slide) down to the number it goes to. And, of course, the 100 spot would have a special bonus, probably +2 and +1 for each continent held. It seems like a really good map for big team games, or 6 player FFA's.

Do you really want me to include them?? Which ones? There's so many... Maybe I should dedicate a map completely to the O'odham?

all WW2 airborne operations make sense

Postby lt_oddball on Tue Aug 21, 2007 4:45 am

The nature of this risk spawn is excellent to use in all the known airborne deployments in WW2 where troops ALWAYS got scattered and needed to merge into a unitary fighting force.

Market Garden is one good example (though Eindhoven to Arnhem as a map is too stretched). Better Stick to Arnhem area only (Brits north of Rhine and Poles South of the Bridge).

Other good maps would be:

a) Festung Holland with German Paras around The Hague airfields in 1940 (Ypenburg, Ockenburg) and in Rotterdam (waterplanelandings) from Moerdijk bridge below Dordrecht (German Panzer advance on this bridge) to Hoek van Holland (British Commandos) and perhaps a role for the French troops that advanced in Zeeland (not on the map.but make it Hellevoetsluis for the map's sake).

b) Crete 1941 ..that is well documented

c) Normandy 1944.. but only the paradrop area of the Americans around ST Mere Eglise.
