I did it, but 4x4x4 is better. Understanding the nature of a cube and where you are is the whole fun of this map.

So what happens now?

I made 3 versions of The CUBE, since it seemed to be a request to have a bigger CUBE.

The original 3*3*3 CUBE already has the XML finished.
Did anyone check the XML out?

I would like to see any or all of the CUBEs playable, but I dont really see any point in spending time on the XML if there is going to be a voting or something similar and only one will get out of it...

I just want to test it out. Who do I have to suck up to? ;)

ok I like this one the most but it needs some work...

1)The black text isn't readable on the background
2)The vertical lines are smaller than the horizontal lines, I think make them the same would be better
3)I don't get the white text eater
4)Can you add this cube on a diffrent background? I think I would like it even better if it has nothing to do with space... (If you like it best this way you can leave it, I don't say you HAVE to do it...)
5) that's it for now, I like the idea :!:

The CUBE V2.0:

Made the middle vertical lines somewhat more distinguished.

Changed the background to something a little less busy, but
kept the space idea ;)

Made the text white.

this is by far the best,

yes its confusing and yes it can make your head hurt, but thats the uniqueness of it. In order to succeed on this map you have to tax your brain.

3x3 is just... blah. this map has the most potential i a massive 4x4x4 cube fest.

Don't now why people on here don't like being cooks, remember under siege: A former SEAL, now cook, is the only person who can stop a gang of terrorists when they sieze control of a US Navy battleship.

uld prefer the 4x4x4 set up as well. But it really needs to be better colored in order to make the different sections recognisable.
What do you know about map making, bitch?

Hmm, this has potential. Smaller is better in my book, unless you can devise a way to better distinguish the attack lines on the more complicated cubes. And if you use the larger cube, you can't call the squares quadrants anymore - a quadrant would suggest 1/4 of something, not 1/9.

The floating astronaut is a bit silly. And why the space theme? There are marshmellow and toothpick cubes in space? If you're talking about the sci-fi Star Treky use of the term quadrant, wouldn't that refer to the entire cube?

I would suggest that you drop the background image altogether for now, and focus on such elements as game play, bonuses, color choice, legend text, font choice, etc. +1 for a quadrant with 4 territories and 4 borders might be light, but at the same time there is a good chance a player will start the game with a quadrant. And how about an additional bonus for holding six quadrants that make a cube?

Legend text could be more description and less example... you could actually tell us what a quadrant is (four territories that connect to form a square).

Marshmellows and toothpicks... think about it.

my eyes bled when i looked at the 4x4x4

is there anyway you can make it look more 3d? to make it easier to see which lines are connecting which territories? and keep the background simple, its busy as it is

seems simple enough to me. You can currently use colours and letters to distinguish between the planes

first plane A-D and blue
second plane E-H and orange
third plane I-L and black
fourth plane M-P and red

maybe just use part of the legend to explain this because I don't foresee any type of attack lines that will help distinguish the planes.

Or, I guess you could use different shapes for each plane (which also double as army circles) Use squares, circles, triangles and ______

This way there are three different ways to help people figure out what is part of what plane. If that's not enough then I don't know what will be.

Unless you change a bunch of the colors for attack lines, the bigger maps make me really dizzy.

Whatever you go with, you'll probably want a very toned down background (perhaps similar to Rail USA) because having really bright background stars hurts the eyes even more than the map itself.

My my...

I guess that whatever I do someone wants it different ;)

Some people like it small and some people like it big.

Maybe the best thing is to go with 2 maps?

Anyway, I made a new version of the HyperCUBE, with a little more colored balls.

And what is wrong with the space theme? Come up with an alternative instead! Or should I just color the background grey for some people to be happy? I used the space theme because I think it is beautiful to look at.

The 4*4*4 cube is not for everyone, and it is not even my personal favourite - BUT - I dont see why 2 versions cant make it to finalization?

Wouldn't a minicube be 8 balls in a cube and not 6? Am I missing something here? :?

I also don't like the F circle names overlapping the B circles in the example.

Allright, here goes:

A cleaner version with lots of colored lines and hopefully more understandable 3D feeling ;)

if the balls in the front rows were relatively larger than those in the back rows it would give you a sense of depth, but I think with the larger cube it will be an uphill battle. Focus on one, get it right.

Made the balls a bit different sizes to enhance the 3D effect. Personally I think it looks better without this extra effect. :(

But what about The Cube? The 3*3*3 one... Nobody has commented any more on it? Does that mean everyone is ok with it? Can it be pushed to the next level?

perspective

Postby Piestar on Tue Nov 13, 2007 6:58 pm

I really like this concept, but there is one thing I feel you really must consider, visually... as your perspective is from the upper right, you need to show where the connecting rods touch the spheres on the top, and on the right. It would go lightyears towards making this map understandable...

the balls act as your army circles, so it's important to check whether they hold army numbers well and how each colour looks when they are on there.
