Actually, the roots of 'Marshmallow' plant (Althaea officinalis) used to be used to make a medicinal confection, the predecessor of our modern fluffy, gelatinous, sugar laden marshmallows. The root has long since been omitted from commercial recipes, although the name has stayed the same.

Here's the plant...

Good to know. Interesting how people can manifest such varied symptoms from the same problem.

I'm wondering if there's someone making organic marshmallows with real extract. I bet they'd kick ass!

Somebody gave me a recipe a while back, and I'm planning to make some once my powdered marshmallow root shipment comes in.

If the recipe works out, I can pm it to you, if you like. They're apparently pretty easy to make.

There is too much junk in this thread to read. So just going on wickeds first post...

My husband woke up one night a few months ago and fell to the floor with pain in his side. He could barely get himself off the floor. We got him to the ER 20 minutes later and didn't even have to say anything, they knew he had a kidney stone. The pain is very bad. If you have one, I am sure you would want to scream from what I have been told. Either way, you should still get it checked out.

ps. the doctor told him that it would take a few days to pass . . . it took FOUR WEEKS!! It was 4 mm round roughly.

are you sure it isn't a pulled muscle? you had said that you got out late to run and that your legs were giving you trouble (twitching) so maybe it's a muscle sprain?

I just looked at your title again. Oops  it says infection.... Yeah I have had a kidney infection. It sucked ass! I had a temp of 104.5 or something. My husband had to carry me to the doctor. I had an infection that I didn't know about and it spread to my kidneys. I remember a little pain but then got really sick and couldn't walk. Felt like I was in an oven. They had to put me in a bath tub with ice water! NOT FUN!!!

It very well could be clap, but it didn't feel like that this time. I've been working out like a fiend lately, so it's quite possible. But if it was soft tissue, I'd expect it to hurt while I was working out, or maybe the next morning, but this wasn't like that at all. After chatting with Morrigan, it doesn't sound like what she experienced with a kidney infection, and since I feel fine otherwise, I'm not gonna worry about it. After next week, I can give my body a break and let everything owie heal.

Hap, that was what Morrigan had told me as well, when it progressed I would KNOW I was sick. My initial thoughts were this may be the beginnings of it, which I couldn't let happen! How long did you have back pain before feeling sick?

I have back problems, so when it happened I just brushed it off thinking I was just sore from something and didn't think anything of it at the time. Then when it finally hit me, I couldn't think straight. I had thought I had a bladder infection, then it went away on it's own . . .. . . NOT it turned into the kidney infection!! So maybe a weeks time is when it hit me. f*cking infections suck monkey balls!!, sorry had to let it out lol
