Is there? Really? The concept that Santa Claus doesn't exist (while its perfectly alright to lie to the kids and then crush them when you reveal the lie) is easier to swallow than God not existing? Imagine that you're 5 and all your life you've been told that there is a guy named Santa and he gives you stuff. Then imagine that your parents tell you that Santa isn't real, they just made it up. How mortified would you be? How long would it take you to accept it?
Which is why my children know that there is no Santa.
It's the same thing, only you've been believing in God for longer, so the indoctrination goes real deep. That's why when someone comes around with some evidence and yells "God does not exist" you immediately go into attack mode and begin browbeating that guy with biblical quotes and dogma hoping that he'll stop challenging the defining strand of your life and leave you alone.
No, I didn't come to know God until I was 13 years old. (and my parents came to know Him about the same time so you can't use "You were raised that way" argument)
However, on the grand scale of things, IT'S THE SAME DAMN THING! The belief in Santa is as real to a 5 year old as God is to you so stop trivializing widely held beliefs just because you don't happen to share them. It may seem like bunk to you, but to a child it's as real as Jesus and the Crucifixion so shaddap already.
It's not the same thing! ONE EXISTS and the other DOESN'T! Its all good, you still have time. Just don't take your last breath thinking the way you currently do.
