As the Brits say, Joffrey is a right little cunt. He's 12 or 13 iirc. Sansa is a year or two older than he is. Yeah tkr, Tyrion is awesome, and Peter Dinklage owns that role. As the story progresses, Jaimie and Cersei do have some chapters, and Jaimie actually turns out to be pretty cool (no spoiler but he changes a little, or at least you're given a better view of him in another light). You're also given some back story on Twyin and why he's such a hardass.

And yeah, last night's ep. was great. Looking forward to the next.

damnit TG even small things like that are spoilers use the tags ffs.

**Spoilers** of season opener below

the season opener was great. We only got one scene of Daenerys but it had a cool dragon in it which looked great for a tv show CGI.

tyrion was back in kings landing and ready to piss of sister and joffrey who is just drunk with power now. Sansa had a nice scene manipulating joffrey into sparing a drunk guard which was good to see that she wasnt gonna just sit back a wollow about the loss of her father.

Word of cersei and jaime's secret became known to all and joffrey being a illegitmate king has spread causing him to eliminate all but one of king roberts illegitmate children but gendry and arya are already safe and away from kings landing so he didnt get all of them.

we got a new character in Stannis being introduced as the rightful king who realeased neds letter of joffreys true father to everyone. he is an ok character but the magic priestess that he has with him is gonna drag the story i feel with the usual religious bs that gets involved in shows.

King Robb has sent Theon to his father to get a fleet for his army so things are happening really fast in this war and we are told Robb has beaten the Lannisters three times in battle but he knows he will lose the war if he doesnt get help.

all in all great season opener that has reassured me that GoT will keep the high quality that season 1 had.

lol nothing I said spoiled anything, and it was already brought up by Baron. And really, my opinion on the Lannisters is just my opinion. I'm sure some people still hate them, but I kinda like them. Except for, y'know, the whole incest and attempted child murder things.

I don't think Jamie turns out cool. You just sympathize for him which in the long run makes him cool. All yall who haven't read the books need to read them. I got sucked in and didn't do shit with my life until if finished the 5th book. They are that good.

I'd like to see Jamie continue along with his reputation as a king-killer, and murder his son.

Jamie and Cersei do have POV chapters, but Tyrion is the only Lannister with a POV chapter in the first book.

Was it me not having read Clash of Kings in a bit, or did a lot of scenes in the opener not appear in the book? I'm not complaining, at all, but I'm wondering if and when we're gonna start to deviate from the books. Awesome way to start the season off, though. I'm hoping someday they go back and make the direwolves look proper badass.

Nah, you're right at least as far as my memory serves. The series started deviating from the books in the first season though.

tkr4lf wrote:As for Joffrey, I see him as drunk on power. I mean, earlier in the first season, he was actually nice to what's-her-face. It wasn't until he became King that he became a royal douche. But, combine that with his spoiled upbringing, his very feminine looks (this is probably not a valid reason for disliking someone, especially since I don't even know if that's how he looks in the books, that could just be bad casting for all I know), and his general attitude (which could well be a result of youthful inexperience) towards everybody else, and he makes for an extremely unlikable character (at least to me).

Perhaps with more experience, he would grow into a king that values his subjects, recognizes and utilizes the experience and collective wisdom of his advisers, etc. For now, it seems he would merely blow them off with a "A King takes orders from no one!" shrug. But for now, he comes off as a spoiled little brat who got some power and has gone mad with it.

As for why he's being a douche to what's-her-face, I think a lot of it has to do with her father.

In the books he was always portrayed to be a spoiled brat, even before taking power. Though clearly being King brings out the worst in him. The book gives some insight to Joffrey as a child, such as when he found out a cat was pregnant he cut it open to view the kittens, or constantly bullying Tommen. Also don't forget what he did to Arya's friend on the way back from Winterfell in the first season.

Numerous characters in the books say they are afraid of Joffrey rising to power, even before Robert dies.

TA1LGUNN3R wrote:He's 12 or 13 iirc. Sansa is a year or two older than he is.

Joffrey is one year older than Sansa. When we first meet Sansa she is 11, Joffrey is 12.

One thing to keep in mind is that the younger characters are actually younger in the books than they appear to be in the show. Daenerys, for example, is only 13. I'd assume they need the actors to portray older characters or you'd run into plenty of indecency and child pornography laws...

Was anything different in the first season, thematically? I read that after watching the series, so I mighta imagined the book as the show. I do hear somebody dies in season 2 that didn't die in Clash.

Not much with the first book, I think, but that bard who gets punished in the last episode, is kind of important later on.

Which is strange since he is not the bard who is punished by Joffrey in the books. He should still be in the Eyrie.

edit: I guess that's what you were implying by the question of "What is different?". Got it.

I found all 5 books packaged together in a torrent, so I downloaded them. I've been reading the first book. While it sucks reading a book in PDF format, it is a great read. I owe this website thanks for exposing me to this series.

There are a bunch of shows that I've watched recently due to being mentioned on CC.

The Walking Dead,
Breaking Bad,
Spartacus: Blood and sand,
and Game of Thrones.

For me, Game of Thrones is easily the best of the lot. I haven't read the books. I almost never read fantasy books anymore, or fiction written after the 70's, but the tv show is so good I just might need to buy these books.
