Despite being demonstrably false, the AP has not issued a correction. The AP fills the same role in the U.S. as the CBC does in Canada or the BBC in the UK or Deutsche Welle in Germany, that is, to use their monopoly on foreign news reporting to aggrandize the policies of the incumbent, regardless of who that incumbent is ...
During Bush's warmongering following the Russian liberation of South Ossetia, both the AP and Reuters were discovered having staged photos of civilian casualties.
http://pics.livejournal.com/umadif/pic/00051xsehttp://img100.imageshack.us/img100/8351/dmcamera12.jpgThese forgeries were covered extensively in 3 of the 4 BRIC nations, plus the DPRK and Laos, however, there was a total news blackout in the west. In fact, several English-language blogs that carried more hilarious examples of these forgeries now return '404' errors when attempts are made to access them.
Byzantine Blog was one of the most heavily trafficked, English language sources of original (i.e. non-syndicate) near eastern reporting around. They're now just "gone." Here is the old link if someone can find a cache:
http://www.byzantinesacredart.com/blog/ ... pictu.htmlEven the user account of the first link above has vanished from livejournal. The outfit responsible for wiping history, however, apparently is dull to the unusual photo filing extension livejournal uses. As a result, this snapshot in time remains ... for now.
I'm certain all references to the Boeing order actually being placed in July will vanish within a few months (unless it really gets blown-up in the news, then it has to remain as a minor political embarrassment; if it flies under the radar though, this can all be wiped after a period of time has passed). I could make a Player-length post with a dozen examples from the last 10 years, but it's too uncomfortable for most westerners to accept so there's really no point anymore in trying to uncover their eyes as to the reality of their hilariously fictional democracies.
For the first time I find that I can actually get behind some of what you are saying, but only some. That is the stuff that you said about the Media. I can remember a time when the Media played its role as an antagonistic watchdog, over Power and Money.
It was on 911 that they really switched tracks, and morphed into more of a Cheerleader, than a Watchdog.
Now we have partisan Networks of News, that are not really "News" in the traditional "media" sense of the word. FOX NEWS is what I am talking about. Yeah , I know that you will say, that all of the other networks are biased toward the liberal side. But it is my contention that the media is in its very nature a liberalish entity.
Its purpose from the beginning has been to serve the interests of the People. The same People that are embolden at the top of the Constitution of the United States of America. We all know very well that Conservatism serves NOT the People, but Big Buisness.
The News Media Is in the process of being assimilated into the control of a new Master. We the People are loosing our most powerfull of Champions. Our most powerful defender of liberty, has been reduced to a dancing Cheerleader.
Le Sigh ... This has nothing at all to do with what I said. Like zero.
Again: U.S. foreign news reporting, as well as that of all other western capitalist nations, has been under direct state control since World War II. This is not about bias' or anything else. This is about the coordinated, centralized control of
non-domestic news gathering and news reporting by a quasi-state agency.
Sorry, I really don't know how I can make this any clearer. Like I said in my original message, most westerners are completely incapable of processing this concept it is so radically opposed to everything they've been taught. When it gets shoved in their face they suffer a cognitive error and fall back to regurgitating, "yes, FOX/MSNBC is displaying conservative bias/liberal bias, Tastes Great/Less Filling, blah blah blah, etc." The utter incapability of people to understand this is why change can not happen through the pedestrian silliness of the ballot box but only through revolutionary agitation by the vanguard of the Communist Party to introduce a transitional and temporary dictatorship of the proletariat (or through an anti-capitalist right-wing philosophy such as a National-Syndicalist or Integralist front, if that is the orientation to which one is inclined; though it's not mine).
I said that I only can get behind some of what you said. And, that is specifically, that the news media has been under attack by Special interests of one type or another. And not just that it has been attacked, but even more sinester, has been taken over.
I would first direct you to the time of the Vietnam War, er "Police Action". The media was active in reporting the events, IE; Meligh Massacure, Carpet bombing of civilians, The pentagon Papers ...etc.
But now, all we get are whiffs of what is going on, from embedded reporters. Yeah, they really have learned how to take the teeth from the press covering the wartime events. They simply make the reporter a member of the team, and use them to promote what they want seen.
Yes, I agree that the Press is not what it used to be. Not what is was founded for, and not what it needs to be, in order to maintain the power of People.
For Gods sake look at what has happened. The United States under Bush, is guilty it seems, of doing the same sort of thinks, that we hung war criminals for after WWII.
The press is supposed to be digging into every corner, and holding the feet to the fire, of Power.
Power has bought the press, and now instead of the Peoples Champion, the press is working for the very thing, that it is supposed to be guarding us from.
Yes I agree with you that we are not quite getting the truth when it comes to the News Media, But I think that it is much more than the single layer that you lay down. I believe that various special interest groups, aligned with various governments, are manipulating the reporting of the News. I believe that it even goes much further than this. We are being manipulated through every form of media that you could name. From the shows that we watch on TV, to the blogosphere.
