If seems a lot of players are looking for this option, why not have something to make it easier for them. Instead of forcing them to have this option only thru private games, etc. Make it easy, you know.

Because public games are just that: public. Open to everybody. It's like a parade, and you don't say only people with X income and above are allowed at parades. No, if you want only people with X income and above you have a private party and only invite such people. CC has given you the means to do that and has even given you the means to quickly and easily find such people; in the callouts forum, there are threads for people of certain ranks to go and join games with their own ranks. Or you could start a whole new thread and only invite those that you want in. It's really quite simple (I do it, it takes me only a few seconds to join one of these games) and you can too! Just go to the Callouts forum and do a quick little look for the appropriate thread.

I seems if enough premium members are demanding it, and the only solution is to set up private games and callouts which is both time consuming and inconveniant. It seems that CC would do something to make this easier and do the little things that would enhance the user expereince especially for their paying customers. It only makes sense. From what you are saying, it sounds like this has been requested over and over again. The demand for it seems to be there at least for an OPTION.

Re: Optional Rank Criteria in order to Join

FiveCardArmy wrote:After being suicided against multiple times and dealing with newbie deadbeats, I find my self wishing there was a button that allowed you to block players who were at least one rank below you. Maybe limit this to the premium users, doesnt prevent high ranked players from joining, but rather players that are ranked much lower than you are....

Or you can just be a little brave and accept all challengers like a lot of the other high ranks (including me) always do.
You are a premium member, i doubt a deadbeat or a few lost points could hurt you that much.

Just get out there and have a bit of fun. Check my active games list. My score is around 500 higher than yours, but my games are open to everyone, often being filled by new recruits and cooks. As you can see by my score, it really doesn't make that big of a difference, you just have to play a bit more defensively than your normally would.

As hecter said, if you aren't good enough to risk your points to all ranks, then you don't deserve the points you have earned.

Yeah, playing a cook that could take 100 points scares the crap out of me every time i see one of them, but thats part of the game. If you are strong enough to play them and still win, you deserve your rank much more.

A man who accepts all challenges, risking his reputation and keeping his honor in the fight, is a much greater man than one that hides from opposition, only to compete with those better than himself.

The points about honor, though I agree with them, are invalid here. This site shouldn't be forcing honor upon us.

That said, I still don't think that this option should be allowed. To echo hecter and wcaclimbing, you don't deserve points you lose to lower ranks. Sure, you lose more, but if you're really better than them, you should beat them often enough to make up for that.

I'm not asking to force honor onto anyone, just pointing out that a person is much stronger if they actually do play the dangerous players.

wcaclimbing, I joined one game :P

Anyway, about topic.

I don't like this idea. Why? Just don't. It's limiting games and makes CC a class/box/rank/whatever society. There would be Cook Society ( nothing personal, Wacicha, didn't mean your thingy :)), Private Society and then this "I'm a high rank now, I've got to 1500 points"-society, etc etc. If you are man enough then play with everybody who joins your games. If you are not then join games last and then you can pick which ranks you play. Or if you wish to play with ranks close to you then take 5 minutes to go through the Callouts forum and find a thread that "advertises" your "level" of games.

Cheers,

Yes! Exactly! But lets not call them societies, lets call them grades just like they have in the military, where they have exclusive clubs for Enlisted, Non-Commissioned Officers, Officers, etc. And the option (remember its only an option) wouldn’t allow one to exclude players that were two ranks below you. Sergeants could still play Lieutenants and privates could still battle corporals when the OPTION was selected.

And all players would still be able to play all ranks since it would just be an OPTION. Also there will be many occasions the option wouldn’t be a good idea since filling an 8 player freestyle speed game would take too long. So instead of not having the option one would simply not select it.

The whole point since players are already trying to put together games with members closer to their rank through call outs, pms, and private games, why not make it easier to form these games that are already in demand. Enhance the use experience and make it easier. I also like the idea of working your way up the ranks to be included in the every game. I just think its odd that many don’t want to have the option because many of the players would use the feature, which indicates that players would ultimately like having it. Just weird.

The way its set up right now, players drop games at the last minute if a cook joins, or blockevery cook that plays, etc.

They have private games, and public games, this would just be a "semi-private game" that has the benefits of both:

It has the benefit of the public in that its easier for the game to fill and the benefit of a private in that one can have the option of playing with players that are near and above his rank.

I agree with this too.

But I would do it differently.

I wouldn't do it on rank, but rather games played.

Most deadbeats are new players "?".

I would like it so that only people with say 10 games completed could join games i start.

That way, n00bs have to play the other n00bs for 10 games before they can join established player games.

Optional, at game create, of course.

That segregation already exists. And obviously there is a problem and a reason why it exists.

The only question is making it official vs allowing the self-segregation system that currently occurs.

The reason the option of score minimums and ranges will not happen is a business decision, $ and business sense. Lower ranks make up the majority of the cash coming in, management thinks this idea could offend them and lessen that revenue stream. Good players are already hooked, have a means to play with other good players (however limited it may be), and are unlikely to quit playing, they'll just quit playing public games but they'll still pay for premium. This is called "maximizing the revenue stream". The only way this will change is if more higher rank players stop paying to play here than lower rank players do over this issue.

That's silly. You said it yourself, the noobs often don't play. But what happens if the ones that do come and join a game that's filled with people that don't play? He'll see that nobody ever plays this game, he won't see the point in playing a game that nobody else plays and so he'll just leave. There goes a potential premium member.

FiveCardArmy, have you ever started or joined a private game? It really is not difficult. All these different groups in Callouts have a generic password that they use for all their games. You get the password and you put it in your clipboard (copy it). Then you go, start some games in while your scrolling down to the bottom of the page, you just paste it in there. Then, you open a new tab or window and go to the thread and post the game numbers in there. Just copy and paste. Copy and paste. Copy and paste. You do the same when joining games. Open a new tab or window, copy and paste the game numbers in, join the game. Copy the game number, join the game. Copy the game number, join the game. Copy the game number, join the game. It's really not much of a hassle... And it works far better than having a rank limit to join these "semi-private" games.

How are we CCers with lower rankings supposed to get better if we don't get to play against more experienced players? If we happen to get a few lucky rolls, or actually display some skill, on the way to a win, perhaps that's part of it.

Besides, weren't you a lowly private at one time or another?

I like this idea, but only if the following stipulation is put in place:
It's available only for Conqueror.

Point Requirements for Games

Postby CryWolf on Thu Feb 21, 2008 12:34 pm

My suggestion is that you be able to make games where only people in a certain point range can play. This range would be decided by the person who creates the game. I suggest this because I am sick of terminator games and really games of any kind where I only get 10-13 points per person if i win, but I lose somewhere in the high 20s when I get taken out. Anyone with me here?

Make private games.
