Changine the Drop game button [Done]

Postby Edward on Tue Jan 15, 2008 11:19 pm

This may seem silly but I think it's important.

I've been trying to make a France game but it is rare that people play on that map. So what I did was I tried to put the game number and description in the chat Callout section in case anyone would be interested.

Problem is that to easily get the number you need to use copy paste. And if you miss click (by relieving the pressure even in the slightest) it will click the number. Thus ending the game.

All I am suggesting is that we change it so the numbers aren't part of the drop button. The Drop Game command would still work, just not the numbers.

I know it's a stupid mistake but this has happened twice since I've tried to start this game, I've been waiting for over a day and 7 people who were hoping to play a game were suddenly canceled, probably thinking I did it on purpose.

Last time was particularly anoying cause we were missing ONE guy and as I copy paste the game number to go fetch a player in the chat, that happens and the whole game ends.

Maybe just put an are you sure? command in the event you accidentally click. Some people may say, "Just write it down somewhere" but the numbers are getting pretty long and it's anoying to do that every game when we could just copy paste.

You can highlight the number by starting your mouse just outside the number. I find I still get some of the other games settings.

Maybe it's my perticular mouse but I've found if I clearly click on the outside of the command area, move through to select it, then once I am clearly out again and accidentally double click, it ends the game.

I am going to stop doing the copy paste but still, maybe what I am suggesting would help. Dropping a game is a rare event (usually your sure you want to create one when you do so) and an "are you sure?" wouldn't be too crazy.

We would need to make the "Drop game" command more apparent though if we remove the numbers from being included.

There is a Greasemonkey script (I believe called "Drop Game Confirmation") that makes a confirmation window pop-up if you ever click Drop Game. If you have Firefox and Greasemonkey, I would definitely advise getting it.

However, I think the idea in the first post is something that should be added to the site for everyone's use. The GM scripts should be an optional enhancement to the game. The Drop game confirmation seems a lot more necessary than the other GM scripts.

Actually I have Firefox and Greasemonkey, thanks a lot I will look for it.

I agree that I should do this, it's just that the copy paste sometimes works. It's so much faster, especially when your making several games. And when you do accidentally click the drop button you think, "BLAST IT ALL! why didn't I just use that damn paper sitting right on my desk!" and I feel super stupid and angry. I'm just lazy, I've become addicted to the copy/paste, lol.

Anyway thanks for at least looking into it.

I never did find the appropriate greasemonkey program though, I found some that did other stuff but none that work well on my computer. Well, whatever. For the moment I'll just be damn careful, and screw saving trees, I'm using up all the paper to write down my game numbers.

Game numbers are no longer part of the drop game link (or enter game, join game links) so you can copy-and-paste safely :)
