i have spent over 3 hours researching it, and still cant find any good territ names

3 hours, its these a joke?I spend 1/3 of mine map work time in research to find all relevant things for map.Keep searching and you will find everything what you need, because its quit easy to find history facts from revolutionary war, then from Roman empire.

This map came up before when i was mod and Gnome had rehashed one of another site's versions.

I am not in favour of anyone doing this.

Borrow the concept if you like but at least give CC the honour of having an original map with original gameplay.

There are many ways this map can be done, so if you want to do it, start thinking outside the box of what has already been done...please.

ok a few things

1. First time i tried this map i used oranges and browns and colors like that, and it looked horrid, so i tried using flag backgrounds this time

2. I had no clue before today that there was a site called landgrab or about whatever that other map is

3. I am not trying to copy anybodys gameplay

4. In early fall (i think) i tried had my first try at a AR map, and I had continued on it for a couple months until gnome had come out with his/hers, at that point i gave up and had gotten as far as outlining indian territories and all that i have on my map except for new france and england, which i had to greatly modify cause otherwise i had like 10 territories in it

5. In early December i deleted all those files i had for it

6. When i started drawing this map again i was forced to draw what i had from memory

sorry if i accidentally copied someones gameplay, cause i did not want to do that, i was trying to make mine original

and unit i think ill do as u say and start like that, but maybe not cut georgia in half like that

Anytime you get two maps of the same area or theme, you'll notice many similarities. But, you have to admit, bryguy, when you look at your version and gnome's version they are strikingly similar. Considering that gnome's version was based/traced from lux's version, or at least this is what I gathered from his thread.

I'm not saying you copied his map, but when they are side by side they do look the same.

You said that you did this from memory, but obviously you had to base your work on something. So, I think, considering the situation, it would probably be a very good idea to show us the image that you used to base your map. It is very possible you and gnome based some of your ideas from the same historical map. This is probably why layout and flag placement are almost identical. But, still I think you should just show us the image so we can get to normal feedback.

a bigger legend, the number of territs is pretty good i think. also take away the background, or dim it, its too harsh, plus i feel like the map is too dark

He is correct, you america map doesnt have a general layout consistant with map youve created, your england map doesnt show ireland, wales or scotland (which you still dont have a reference to), your map still has a similar layout to gnomes map and wales is in the wrong place. Im sorry but I believe you have copied an idea and you didnt take 3 hours to research.

I don't think a vacation will do it!
No one is saying you've copied an IDEA... what people are saying is that you've clearly borrowed quite a bit from other people's work (without citing them)... that is plagiarism.
What gimil is saying is that even though you SAY you have based your map on the ones you've posted, the borders, and outlines don't match up at all... instead they match up to the previous map attempted by whomever it was.
It is unacceptable how similar your map is to other people's work. the colors, the themes, the ships, the game play, etc...
Now you're obviously a student... I happen to be a teacher of history in NYC. Even though I'm not all that bothered by the historical inaccuracy of your map (please don't use wikipedia as a reference, that's not good enough), I AM bothered by the obvious plagiarism going on. You can't change one thing, or try to do the same thing as someone else from memory, and say it's COMPLETELY different from someone else's work, because that's not true.

It's unavoidable that people will have the same, or similar ideas. What is avoidable, and what must be avoided at the least, is the similarity in appearance and game play.

This IS a great idea, and SHOULD be added as a map on CC. However, you've got to do a better job of distinguishing your work from other people's work.
You should keep at it...

I think the idea is great, the Revolution was an amazing piece of American History: However, the map as it is now is not one which I consider visually appealing.
The main reason is the use of the flags detracts from the map and is very difficult to view.
I suggest making the states solid colors and save the fancy graphics for the empty spaces along the perimeter.
