I go two ways:
1. I ether go for Africa and get the bonus.
2. Just try to attack the person out by just attacking them.
I only use this method if I have no troops dropped in Africa
Im no expert though

Well go for africa first...if you cant then build a massive army with everyone and just wait for everyone to take each other out if there are cards make sure you get them

If you can't get Africa try for a good defensive position like Australia and stock pile your armies while everyone kills each other and spreads themselves thin. Make sure to grab cards every turn if applicable.

Strategy in general rarely applies in Doodle Earth. I just got about 150 points mostly by sheer luck in a couple of doodle earth games.

Doodle Earth - 1vs1

Postby Splash_x on Sat Feb 23, 2008 10:34 am

Doodle Earth is an extremely small map. Keep that in mind.

When playing 1vs1, Each player owns 6 territories.

Freestyle Or Sequential?

It depends on which is your favourite. I like sequential because you don't miss any good opportunities as often. But remember, if its a hassle for you, its a hassle for everyone.

Cards:

Escalating Cards
Playing with Escalating means the game is much easier to lose after the first 4 or 5 rounds. That also means its much easier to win. So if you want to take that risk, Its ok.

Flat Rate Cards
It is not recommended you play with Flat rate. After 3 rounds, A player could have a mixed set and completely own you. There is much more luck than escalating and often too much at the first cash. Of course, if you want to take the risk, the risk is equal for both players.

No Cards
No cards is best for doodle earth. Therefore you have the opportunity to use more strategy in the attacking and less on cards. Of course, with no cards, attackers depend heavily on dice (Praying to the dice gods is recommended). With no cards, you never have to worry about a player suddenly getting 40 armies from a card and owning you.

Fog of war
Because there are only so many territories in the 18 territory doodle earth map, With or without fog of war is fine. It is most likely that you will know where all your enemy's territories are... and if you don't, you know where they likely are. (6 territories per player, 6 per neutral)
No fog of war means you don't have to worry if an unseen continent is owned by Neutral and enemy or just enemy.

Attacking & Continent Bonuses
The easiest continent bonus is Africa. And because the map is so small, Africa can be a great help to winning. How likely is it for your enemy to own africa on the first turn and end up going first? Very unlikely. Suppose you own a territory in Africa, Depoly three there and if there are cards, attack a territory. Don't let your armies go below 3, even if that means you don't get a card. Before you take africa with 6,7,8,9,10,11 armies. You must make sure all boardering countries are either well fortified or hard to attack. If neutrals are protecting one of your boarders, Don't bother. Players rarely attack neutrals. Make very subtle attacks and not major invasions; Major invasions often cost many troops and soon your entire empire is down to 1s.
If you manage to take europe, that is fine too. Any continent is fine... Asia however might be too big.
(btw, if africa is full of neutral, don't bother killing them)
ALWAYS BREAK YOUR OPPONENTS CONTINENTS!

Fortifications
Chained and Adjacent fortifications are to be avoided at all times!
When fortifying, try to fortify so that there are someones and fives... at least. Always fortify to africa, which is the continent that you are suggested to take. Try to get all your guys to one place if You can't fort to africa.

I find it best to group all your men together as you don't get the extra men for owning territories without attacking neutrals. So no matter how many 1's your opponnent takes you still both get 3 men.

It was pretty helpful too.

I don't agree. I won a game where my oppenent turned in a mixed set before me and I still won.

There is no strategy for playing the doodle earth map, it is a map decided by who is having better dice at the time. Even if someone cashes in the first set, it is still very possible to lose based on how the dice are, which is why i dont play the doodle earth map under any settings...

I go with playing freestyle and then wait for the other person to take their turn, then you can just take one of the 1s they inevitably leave behind and repeat, they blow their armies on your thress and you can run them over soon enough

Doodle Earth

Postby Matt Hardy on Thu May 22, 2008 5:07 pm

I'm in a standard, freestyle, escalating, chained, 8 player Doodle Earth game without fog of war.
Is there any strategy to this or should i just keep putting my armies in the same place and attacking the weakest country next to me?

My best advice, for a game like that, is hope that lady luck is with you ;)

If you want something more stategic, you just definitely try to eliminate people.

8 Player Doodle Earth games

Postby Pedronicus on Wed Jun 04, 2008 2:25 pm

Can someone please explain to me what the fascination is with this map with so many people on it?

The idea of starting a game with just two territories doesn't sound like a game where you can exercise a great deal of strategy or skill.

Also, do you think that George W Bush has this map, on his wall in his office, to help understand where Russia is? (he does strike me as a man with a limited grasp of world geography)
