ZeakCytho wrote:And you have every right to complain about the final product :). I myself voted for 55% opacity, but I don't mind the current version toomuch. What I was complaining about here was people who protest this new map but did not even bother to read the foundry threads on them. People who demand that the map be taken down and hurl insults at it left and right yet had never even looked at the thread while this was in development are being unreasonable. They would come across much better by mollifying their request in light of the fact that they took no part in the development process. Remember the story of the little red hen?

You're never going to get the majority of the site users in the foundry to comment if they keep going about things the way they have been. Now Lack has taken to making major announcements on the My Games page. Changing THE Classic map is quite an announcement, so how about posting the PROPOSED map grapic link there BEFORE it's put into play? That's the only way they're going to get comments from more of the majority.

I for one asked for darker circles, but the poll put up only had 3 choices, all very similar, and was only run for ONE WEEK. This biased the answers to those who frequent the map foundry forum, who obviously based on reactions here, do not speak for the majority of the site.

I recall at some other point in time the map took on a similar look, and was quickly changed back to normal. it too looked like shit as it does now. Get the colors back to how it was and remove those lame white "spheres" around the armies.

Please revert to the old version. The background circles make it difficult to assess the map visually, and make playing less enjoyable. If there were readability issues before, they could have been addressed with a font change or by a slight color adjustment. Can the circles be toggled on or off as a user option?

thanks for trying but yeah the original classic was much easier to see, this one with the large background circles is more of an eyesore than anything. i'd like to see the old classic map still available to play games on so we're not stuck with this one. it looks a lot like the classic map that got popped in place a few months ago but was short lived

White circles around the numbers make the map unplayable.

like many others, i think these changes are not what the classic map needed,
and mentioned earlier, those white circles around the armie number should be optional at the least.

Sorry guys, I cannot even focus with those circle, is much harder to read now, I prefer the circle like before, it would be nice as suggested to have them as optionals or the old stile.

So much for my favorite map! The shadow discs actually make it *more* difficult to see what is going on. My membership is up for renewal in a week or so and that may actually be enough to get me to not renew.

I played a game on the new Classic map and lost. So quite obviously the Classic map redesign has nothing to do with enhancing the gaming experience but instead is another tactic in the ongoing plot to reduce me to a cook.

I agree with the above comment about the "light circles" around the numbers...easily, some will find this new map more confusing than the old. I can read troop numbers more easily on this new map so I like it overall...just those "light circles" that could stand some improvement.

Sorry friends, but I joined Conquer Club to play online Risk, not to read every forum on the board. I was under the impression that the Foundry was for new map development, which doesn't interest me since I play 95% on the Classic map. I recall, like others, when the white circles appeared a couple of months ago, and there was a lot of negative feedback, and yet, here we are again.

But let's not chastise people who don't live in the foundry forum, we have a right to our voice, and the owner can choose to disregard them. I will continue to play irregardless, but it is much harder on my eyes.

You're not aware of the introduction of "new coke" and the amazing consumer backlash it caused? It sounds a lot like this thread :)

After 80 odd years as an American institution, Coca-Cola USA shocked the nation by announcing that it would reformulate its classic drink. The "New Coke" was a lighter, sweeter beverage, one more like its long-standing rival, Pepsi.

Carefully developed and researched, New Coke seemed a sure winner. Consumers across the country had preferred it to Pepsi in blind tests. But taste aside, Coca-Cola discovered that it hadn’t fully understood Coke drinkers’ brand loyalty or the iconic power of its flagship product.

Reactions ranged from disappointment to outrage. As one Coke drinker put it, "It was nice knowing you. You were my friend for most of my 35 years. Yesterday I had my first taste of New Coke and to tell the truth, if I had wanted a Pepsi, I would have ordered a Pepsi not a Coke." Another argued that changing Coke was "akin to diddling with the US Constitution."

Three months later, Coca-Cola bowed to public pressure and announced the return of the old formula, under the name of "Coca-Cola Classic."

Andy,

There's a difference between yanking the rug on something people have already agreed to..IE..starting a game on a map they love....and introducing a NEW option for future games....I understand not "spamming" the forum.....but really that huge banner "Classic Map Touchup" is its own special version of spam....It would have been great to see a huge banner A WEEK AGO leading to a poll where each map (old/new) was visible and let people vote BEFORE this was imposed on them. The new map foundry was understood to be just that..a place where new maps were proposed..not something I had to monitor daily lest the maps I had already chosen for my games were to be distorted right in the middle of the games...

It is cool that there is so much energy here to make new, better, and fun. Sadly this change is just new.

Perhaps you could put all of this energy into fixing perceived problems in all of the dozens of maps your "foundry" has spewed out and leave this map alone and as it was. Not everything needs change and not all change is improvement.

Screwing around with this map is as bad as screwing with original coke. As for it being in the foundry board for months and all of us should have spoken up... Be very careful what you ask for! Do you really want this entire community checking into your little zone everyday putting in their two cents?!? Perhaps you could have asked for opinions before mucking with the original?

1 Vote NO here...

edit...
Damn fast posted with the coke classic angle...
